Plastic deer fence: materials and installation. Constructing an 8-foot plastic deer and critter fence to repel deer and protect your vegetatable garden. Includes materials, dimensions, and cost. Vegetable gardens in urban and rural areas often require protection from deer, rabbits, raccoons and other animals. This video shows how to construct an 8-foot high polypropylene fence around a raised bed garden. The project makes use of fencing, metal posts, PVC pipe and plastic ties. A cost estimate of the project is also provided.

I’m taking on a similiar project soon. Only differences are that I’m using studded t-post and my door will be a pressure treated wood strip about 1” X 1” with magnetic strip glued and screwed into it. The magnetic strip will be magnetized to the adjacent T-post. I’m happy to see your idea for a door because looks like a stronger hold and a tiny bit cheaper to do. Maybe I’ll “borrow” that concept from you!

We start the t-posts with the pounder and then push down with the tractor bucket.

I used the same 8-foot high polypropylene fence, but I installed Rebar instead of the 6 foot U-bar because I can easily order from ACE 10 foot rebars. I also found that by leaving only one entrance/exit walkway free of any fence, the deer never came into my garden to eat. The deer could have easily come into my garden through my single entrance/exist walkway, but they never did. By the way, since you have your polypropylene fence touch the ground, how do you kill the weeds that grow there?

Great idea! Is the monofilament line a heavy fishing line? I’m thinking black spray paint would help the posts/pipes “blend”. Appreciate the video and other folks comments. Being a little old lady (70 yrs young) I will use shorter u posts as they are easier for me is use the pounder on.

Nice solution. Just had a critter get in and burrow into a watermelon. The jerk didn't even finish eating it. 😠 I hope to get something up before more visitors show up to the party.

Very interesting and it looks like something I can accomplish alone ( if necessary). What is the name of the yellow instrument for hammering the U-post into the ground? Also, what is the plastic fencing called? I will try these out this weekend. I have mountain goat challenges! They've eaten my plants & trees! What wasn't eaten was pulled up by the roots!

I have a similar setup that keeps out Michigan deer. I used Tenax deer fence (100x7ft). There are other brands, but Tenax seems strongest. The yellow thing is a post driver.

okay.. i recently discovered that its hard to find 7' post above ground. i brought 7 ' post but with ground side in, top was less than 6' I will be doing what you have suggested. I will get some PVC pipes, but I am going to kick off a notch by spray painting a dark green LOL Thanks

I used this exact fencing for my garden, until one day, I went out there to get a tomato ,an what did I find, but 2 dead butterflies an a little bird that was severely caught, so this horrible junk plastic came down, this stuff I will never have on my property again, I'll give up a tomato to never cause this again, I really don't know how to destroy it,without causing harm to our environment

Just buy 4ft post and then sleeve 10 ft 1 1/2 pvc then cut 3ft off ,use this extre pipe for supporting in-between posts ,buy the cheap est plastic fence. The deer will destroy it anyway,shoot and eat the pesky deer that insist on eating your food.
