When my wife wanted to get an SUV that was not as big, with that little bit of sport, we snagged up an Infiniti QX70 (FX predecessor) for a steal right before the price hikes a couple years ago and it has been amazing; both solid on the “luxury” and “sport”, while being extremely reliable. This whole list is so good though, as I frequently look for Ideal deals all the time.
The GX470 is the king of this category, man they look sweet with a lift and proper off road tires, as you said its just a bad ass Toyota Landcruiser in a fancy suit.
Heh, which one would I choose? Probably the one I did. An 08 MDX. Although, for round 2, I might go with the RX 350. So far I've been pretty satisfied with what I bought though. There are some quirks, but dependability hasn't really been one of them. Some of the issues encountered include the driver door auto lock system needing to be replaced, the Bluetooth module going out. The automatic mirror pitch to see the ground when going in reverse feature, the seat and steering wheel memory settings (something I don't care about), the starter, the alternator (same 13.5 voltage after replacement, so maybe not), and the compressor died. We got the car with just at 120k mi on it and it now has about 190k mi on it. All of these are pretty typical repairs for a car this old. We're still using the same factory plugs and COPs. We had the timing belt replaced at 130k mi, along with a CV axle. (Pretty common for FWD powertrains) There's a slight oil leak, but we're talking maybe a quart between oil changes. The transmission shifts better now than when we bought it. The SH-AWD module must have a type of broken solder joint somewhere because it throws errors in the cold, but its always worked fine. Overall, for a vehicle with close to 200k mi on it, we're pretty happy with it. Besides normal maintnance for a car this old, it's been pretty dependable. This is my wife's car and I'll typically only get a call if she has a flat tire, or when we had some fan relays die a few months ago. $20 got her AC working again. I did end up replacing the starter in that car in the Oriellys parking lot. It wasn't the easiest to get to, but I only had to pull the battery tray and intake hose/tube. The manifold and throttle body stayed on the engine. It was a 2hr job in total. I should probably address the transfer case and rear diff fluids. I haven't ever changed either. They might still be originial fluids. Sound investment if you ask me. This thing whips in snow and is no slouch getting on the highway. After 10yrs of ownership, I'm pretty pleased. I did a similar job (starter replacement) for an 07 CRV. The damn starter is behind the intake. That was an annoying job to say the least. Good list overall, besides the honorable mentions, I can't disagree with any of the others listed. Cheers.
I know it's NOT a luxury SUV, but personally, I think one of the honorable mentions shoulda been the 1999-2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee. More SPECIFICALLY, one with the leather seats and the i6, for reliability... As for the glass transmission, either pray, or do a swap.
There’s no way the Mercedes ML350 4matic (2008-2011) is not here. That is one of the MOST reliable luxury mid size SUVs you can ever buy. That 3.5L N/A V6 it’s super reliable and they come AWD standard and they don’t have a lot of electrical problems.
Yea the Lincoln is not reliable but it's a clean looking ride and rides beautiful but when that air ride actuator sensor go bad and ya vehicle looks like low rider then u in for some money to replace it and they leak oil it's a Ford thing but Escalade I had 2 of them easy to fix very fast for it's size parts are expensive when u get to the 2014-23 versions but it's honestly the best ride u could ever get from an American SUV
Can you show a vehicle or two with low mileage under 100k miles and is reliable and cheap I wouldn't even consider a vehicle with higher than that for mileage
I hardly believe Cayenne is a Porsche-reliable of any degree, manufactured by VW, VW/Audi engines, incompressible repair costs. That is the only reason they are cheap. I better keep my X6 50i thank you.
Big NOPE on the Lincoln (at least the Triton ones). My Dad's first one (06 Nav) needed at new engine at 135k and his 2012 Nav needed a new engine at 150k to the tune of $13,000. It's the same engine as the F150's etc. STAY AWAY!!!
Never was into Luxury, I leave that to girls, elderly, and Secret Service... My Luxury is my un badged Mach1 Handling Pack. A 2022 Roush Mustang.
