I’d love to see a video on jacket linings. Why are jacket linings so decorative when they aren’t meant to be seen? What materials to look for/avoid? Should the colour/pattern or print be considered when creating a cohesive outfit?Thoughts?

I am perfectly satisfied with pairs of Levi's, Wranglers or Lee jeans I find for cheap at thrift stores and such! It really doesn't have to be top of the line pair to look good. Find the ones that are your size and that fit you well and you'll look great!

Growing up on a Wisconsin dairy farm, us kids wore Sears Toughskins, while my father, grandfather and uncles wore Key and Oshkosh (this wasbefore they made kids clothes only). We switched to Lee and Wrangler, whichever was on sale at Target. 30 years ago, I started buying Levis and I was surprised that I could wear a pair for more than a year. Then I found Carhartt and could get two years of wear out of pair. Now I live in Tokyo and if I wanted to spend $200 - $500 on a pair of Selvege jeans, I could - if they ever sold my size here. I went to the Iron Heart store last month, ready to buy a pair, but anything close to my size is only sold in the US , UK and the rest of Europe. So, I'll stick with Carhartt and Levis for the immediate future, at least I can get them shipped over here from Amazon.

I think it's worth knowing the difference in quality just so you can know whether something is a good deal or not. So that's the good thing about these videos. OTOH, in this video, it sounds like you're very much _advocating_ for buying the expensive jeans, and I am not sure I agree. I'll bet if we tried to test if people could correctly identify the expensive jeans on sight, most people would fail. And in terms of difference in comfort and resilience...it's subjective of course, but IME the comfort difference is barely noticeable and a pair of jeans costing 20 times as much will not last 20 times as long.
@justinafuchs2619

You know, you don’t buy expensive jeans so that other people can identify them as expensive .. Just like you don’t wear a great quality Polo shirt or a suit so that other people think “I bet that was expensive”. If that’s what you’re looking for, you can just leave the price tag on it ..

I've been watching your channel since quite some time. And I greatly appreciate all the content with the nits and grannies of tradional and well executed menswear. Your channel is really what got me interested in it. A month or two after discovering your channel I wrote my A-Levels and managed to get a comparatively high score in german because I was able to write about menswear and put my newfound knowledge to paper! One thing that's been on my mind since very long is the following: As a quite short (164cm/5'4.5") and slim (48kg/107lbs) gentleman I find it very hard to find off-the-rack sizes for almost all kinds of items, especially with more expensive clothing items. As those stores selling them seem to have a somewhat limited size range, or to put it different: Not the size range I need, often ending at sizes comparable to (EU) M, Lots go down to S but then sizes even smaller seem to be almost non-existent! Sadly the stores that do have the sizes that fit me the best are usually cheap fast fashion oriented. I am still a young adult (In my early 20's) and most of my clothes stem from the time I stopped growing with 16, I buy clothes somewhat rarely now. A lot of the stuff does still hold up pretty well I do try to spend my time looking for new quality clothing to last me a long time but often with no results! As a university student I am far away from having the budget to get quality made-to measure things. I know thrift-shopping might be an option but I've yet to find the time and motivation to do so. Since trying to go shopping even in normal stores has been a draining chore for me in the past, that quickly drained me off motivation. So I wanted to know, if you at the Gentleman's gazette have any (beginner) tips in that regard!

Carhartt B18, my jeans are for work rather than fashion and comfort is my primary concern. In my younger days, I primarily bought Levi's, at that time, the price for 501 was around $3.50 a pair and cords going for $4.50. I quit buying Levi's mainly after they started down the woke path and outsourcing their products but still capitalizing on their name with higher prices.

The denim used by most brands these days is too thin. Carhartt is no exception. I have a pair of B13's and the denim on them is some of the thinnest I've ever felt. The denim on my old pairs of Levi's 550's is quite a bit thicker, but also more pliable. Even though the denim on the Carhartt's is so thin, it's really starchy for some reason. Probably due to poor quality cotton. Bought a pair of Dickies jeans recently too and it's the same deal with them, except they're two inches larger in the waist than what they're labelled as and they're made in Bangladesh opposed to Mexico where the Carhartt's were made. What has happened to these once proud American workwear brands?

Should be reasonably affordable, hold up against a working environment, and look good last. Whether you get straight cut raw Selvedge 100% cotton, or an ultra skinny cotton spandex blend, you can find good quality jeans for under $100. I think anything past that stops being true to the original purpose of the garment. I’ll splurge on luxurious dressy items like suits and ties. I will not splurge on clothes meant for the working man

Yea and it’s all about your body type too. A man should care about his perception to others. To be seen in good light with dignity and respect are often times noticed by strangers based off attire and hygiene alone. I could never be one of those ,”I don’t care what people think about me” kind of people. That’s just a cop out for not being confident in self. Plus, I think a woman or significant others looks at you more than anyone so giving them a good visual view is just as important as leading, and protecting. Some guys I see, wear carpenters jeans or cargo short… like that’s all they wear. Women don’t find that attractive and if they do, their lying 🤣 but to my point, a Hanes $5 wrinkled tshirt could make one man look like he has on a super cheap tshirt yet an NFL built RB could wear the same tshirt but because of body type, he makes it look 10 times better. I think you have to pay for the beat to look the best but some don’t have to because of body type. It makes everything they wear look good but then body type can keep you from buying this that are classic and nice because it all looks abnormal on the body compared to a slimmer person 🤷🏾‍♂️🤷🏾‍♂️ Ok I’m done ranting 😅

There been reports that, the old version of Levi's jeans, had lasted over 20 years. Imo the famous Japanese jeans brands, recommended on youtube, do last a long time, if the old versions of Levi's lasted that long. I'm reluctant to buy expensive jeans, my weight flucturates lol. I had to buy smaller clothes at one point and went back to buying a bit larger. These are factors to consider. I like cheap. Spending $30 to $50 every 5 years is fine for me hahaha

I usually spend between 80-130 on jeans. Those seem to fit really well and last a good amount of time.

Between vanity sizing and shrinking Jean fits can be almost impossible. I don’t think there should be a universal standard of what a good fit is not everyone has the same preference . Depending on the workout regularity and my diet fluctuations my size goes up and down so expensive jeans are a tough sale for me how many men can say they will wear the same size for decades?

Over $200 is expensive for me. Would love to hear your take on selvedge and/or raw denim. Oh and do you live in the squat rack ;)?

In my opinion the best quality jeans are Levi’s and Ralph Lauren (Polo and RRL).

@@mrgt3201 Well I’m gonna correct myself then. Deim Head will imply that I MOSTLY wear denim and that definitely is not the case. My wardrobe is VAST and I like to wear everything from casual (slacks, chinos, etc) to utility (cargos) to some denim, to formal. It all depends on the mood and/or occasion. So if u MOSTLY wear denim you might be better versed in denim than I am. But the denim that I do own (Levi’s, Polo Ralph Lauren, and RRL Ralph Lauren), are all very good quality. Are there better ones out there? Perhaps. But I am only speaking on the ones I do own, hence why I said I am open to suggestions.

Today's kids, want jeans with holes pre-made in them or light blue colored jeans. To buy 501 Levi's dark blue jeans cost about $100. Like I said, 501 Levi's jeans lasted practically forever!!

Big John and Japan Blue from Japan are really good if you can get it. Sometimes, you can get them from vintage sellers like Poshmark. Workmanship is the key. Samurai jeans are also super.

Kind of interesting that quality shuttle loom denim costs a lot of money, then we beat the $# out of them and never wash them so we can look like cool guys. 😎 We're a special group.

Personally,i find Paige and Jacob Cogen make the best jeans 👖,Emporio Armani is good as well ,but it all depends on your budget and most importantly your Body shape. Those designer jeans are worth it because they will last you for years to come

I think if one day I get rich, I’ll splurge $150 on a pair of jeans.. But I feel and look confident and cool shopping off of Levi’s clearance racks and their sales - $40-$45. Levis because they fit me best compared to other brands at comparable price. A $1200 pair of jeans better be coming with rockets 🚀 attach to them because I highly doubt they will increase my confidence or feeling of looking cool..

The term "denim" derives from the French "serge de Nimes", meaning "serge (a sturdy fabric) from Nimes". Yet the fabric is no longer produced anywhere in France.

Nothing wrong with wearing jeans after 40, but you have to properly nail the fit or risk looking juvenile.

this channel usually delivers great content but this one is all over theplace and doesn't give you specific examples because it talks about genralities with hints of a specific that isn't clear, almost a tease. And it feels repetitive with same info said different general ways about 5-7 times each.

I'm currently wearing Duluth. Lots of pockets and they tolerate the abuse well. Not best fitting from a style standpoint, but they work and have held up well. Not pure cotton either because I need them to flex.
