hahahaha, i used to do it, and still my alternative XDD (i buyed new processor that included his thermal, so using that for now) only downside its that it needs changing every 2-3 months for optimal performance, otherwise it can even cool better than the average thermal paste (and its great for emergencies, it only needs one drop of multi-purpose oil mixed with it for maximum spread)

Actually this test is wrong, below there is id tg25 and it is a paste that performs better than both kryonaut and nt-h1 The only downside of it is that it has really high viscosity values As a user of it, just heating it a little bit solves the problem and apart from that it is both performs good and durable because it doesnt dry out.

@@WinstonTheRedFoxLabrador hahaha funny you say that my brother got his pc built by lyte pcs and it took a crap so he built his one and he let me harvest the Ryzen 5 3600 out of it and there was literally no thermal paste which explained one of the two problems it had one was it a leased shut off after over a min which was it probably over sharing from no thermal paste and the other problem was it being completely bricked after that which turned out to be the motherboard and that cause the GPU to be bricked both were it was something g to do with the PCIe board slot but no joke when I pulled the cooler off I was like off f*ck😂 there was bearly enough thermal paste to bearly show up on a paper towel bearly a color smudge on the soaped towel and my theory is who ever was in the assembly line at lyte pc was not knowledgeable about how much thermal paste and he probably put a mini dimple of almost no thermal paste on probably but hopefully not 100s of PCs hopefully who ever has assembled that Pc has been fired

The ease of spreading is not really much of an indicator of price or quality. The upper one is very easy to handle, unlike the lower one which requires manual spreading with a piece of cardboard or plastic. What determines the price is the thermal conductivity. High value thermal paste has high value ingredients. The arctic silver 5 (1,70€/gram) is basically liquified silver with a conductivity of 9w/mK. Conductonaut (9€/gram) is made of indium and gallium and has a conductivity of 70w/mk. Some 'low end' pastes are ceramics based, like the Arctic Ceramique 2 (1,10€/gram). Its other ingrediences are cink and aluminium. I looked at 5 websites and didn't find any indicator of conductivity. However, there are other options that are less about the price/performance. The Alpenfön Glatteis paste (3€/gram) only has a conductivity of 5w/mk. Why would anyone buy it? Because it's entirely metal free. It is non conductive. So it's not a risk for unskilled people who have never held a syringe before and scatter that stuff on the whole mainboard.

Depends on the thermal paste used, but I could definitely see that working. My Corsair H-55 AIO came with pre-applied thermal paste that was still 'wet' after 7 years. My GPU, however, had a very gunked up paste after a year of thermal cycles that, when replaced, stopped a crashing issue I was having.

Using multiple low end gpus , or using a single gpu for all vms .

Thermal grizzly kryonaut is known to need to be warmed up via hot water before applied, if it doesn't get heated up it doesn't spread properly, so the spread really doesn't mean much

@@kroks. I use a wooden popsicle stick, but now I use glass, it stays clean and if you coat it in water resistant coating it doesn’t take much of the paste off.

As a mechanic i agree the stuff they use in cars is meant to withstand anything they can think to throw at it, and then the customers throw more shit at it and recalls are added, leading to upgraded parts and the like, even something as tiny as thermal paste. A lot of tools/parts used on cars can be repurposed for home use and is absolutely great.

@@Deconstruction_Administrator there are a lot of factors that you need to consider here since you're using cross field application. Some of them aren't even mentioned by the OEM. Rigorous testing is the best way forward. But auto pastes must have longer life than PC pastes.

Exactly, he never said that the more expensive thermal paste would have better coverage. The thermal paste on the bottom that does cover well could easily be the expensive one.

Its obvious that people will buy the one that costs four times as much because it will be like only "5 bucks more" if the cheap one was $1 the expensive one would have been $5. Sure, in my first comment I didn't completely think that one through, but the point is still there. Even if the expensive one was $16, people would still get it. As they are using hundreds of dollars worth of hardware with it. Maybe next time see the joke instead of trying to be a smart ass. There are multiple ways to take my joke, you happened to take none of it as one.

No. Just no. "Expensive" thermal paste is only expensive in comparison. We are talking the difference between $3 and $12. You aren't going to break the bank getting something decent. And when it is something that protects a $300 cpu, spend the extra $9 and get something that doesn't harden and become an insulator after 6 months. An extra $9 now will save you from replacing a burnt cpu later. Thermal paste is the least expensive part of your computer. Do you really want the price of a McDonald's meal to be what destroys your computer? You don't need to overclock or be a computer wizard to realize that $9 is cheaper than replacing your cpu.

Arctic mx-2 is almost as lower one and mx-4 as upper one. Neither of Arctic MX are cheap.

Yup, I focused on the thermal paste and then checked the CPU brand, turns out its AMD.. *instantly searching for "Made in Malaysia"* 😁

But not in thermal paste quality that can be more then 5 degrees difference.

Nah, some thermal paste is vastly more conductive than others, taking the heat from the die of the cpu faster and thus keeping your overall Temps down, you don't need to overspend but considering a tube of thermal grizzly with 5 applications in it is like 5 or 10 bucks there's no reason not to just buy the good stuff
