Testing out the Bunker Indust Traction Boards vs the X-bull traction boards. This video I test out $80 X-bull Traction Boards vs the $200 Bunker Indust Traction Boards. This was a fun video to make!

I have those “cheap” ones and they have worked every time I needed them.

lol. yup. 30 years of overlanding and off roading and honestly the number of times they actually get used vs the number of people dropping hundreds and hundreds of dollars and mounting them on their rigs like they're something to show off is just a joke (and btw sometimes spending hundreds more on mounting systems). the other thing, while i'm on a rant, is lots of times the minis work just as well as the full size and they're way cheaper and easier to store. i think the main issue here is his test where he showed some materials stress to the cheapies was a bit odd and unrealistic. you're generally not using them in that type of bridging application where you need that much flex. IRL you're 99.99% of the time only using them to defeat an open diff and get the torque more evenly distributed. so they're gonna be dug in right under your tire (y'know, to gain traction hence the name lol) not spanning a gap. another way to think about the price of these boards is that those higher end version right now are closer to $350 than the $200 he says. it's at the point where 4 boards cost only a little less than actually getting a locker lol. but then again a locker just sits discretely in your diff. you can't mount it in bright orange on your rig and show the world what a gungy outdoorsy bad ass you are.🙄

@@oldgrunt5569the short ones do work well enough? I have AWD w open diffs, am in the market and have seen videos saying the short ones do and that the short ones don’t…

How About you actually get stuck and see what gets you out more reliably, I must say this was not all that informative.

I bottomed out my 98 Durango today in some deep ruts in a wet field. Wish i had some of those boards to help me out! My friends had to come save me.

All in what ya can afford and what you are asking them to do i suppose. I foresee both lasting a while if used correctly.

"If traction boards got you out, then you probably were not stuck to begin with." - Matt's Off-road Recovery.

Given the amount of problems I've seen these guys have with recoveries, they aren't the know all end all of off roading by a long shot. I definitely wouldn't use that janky quote as an argument against traction boards. Hell I used a South Col 70 backpack as traction in snow and it got me out of a snowbank with no recovery points on the vehicle or tow truck.

@@MFWb00bi3s I would take Matt's years of professional experience over a strangers anecdotal claim. Traction boards have their place, but they are not that great.

@@MFWb00bi3s boards have gotten like rotopax where every pretender mounts them up in bright colors to go to the grocery store. That said, Matt's Off road recovery channel is not IRL by a long shot. used properly in the right application boards will absolutely get a rig unstuck.

@@austinarmagost2001 do you actually offroad? because any one who does knows that channel is like scripted "reality" tv. go take a recovery class with a reputable group and stop thinking youtube is real life.

@@MFWb00bi3s choosing to invest in an RTT before a locker pretty much tells me all i need to know about this channel's offroading experience.

funny how you did not look at the exspensive ones hardly at all looking for cracks. and that you stopped on top of the cheap ones but didn't on the exspensive ones. clearly you were trying to show they are bad. talk about a clear show of what brand was paying you.

Sorry I'd like to refrain from purposely getting the truck I live out of stuck. Maybe you can test them better. Best of luck

@oldgrunt5569
@oldgrunt5569 28 дней назад
it's worse than that. the "test" where he stressed the cheapies is not even a typical way you use these boards. if you have to bridge a small hole like that you shouldn't be offroad in the first place.
