I collect Astra Militarum which has loads of infantry and big vehicles miniatures. This methods work for all Gamesworkshop models however would work on any scale miniatures out there.

There's a guy called Castle Gate that uses giant food delivery boxes with metal sheets inside. Look him up. Its around 1000 HKD. (fixed the name)

I do same thing but local big box store sells sheet of thin gauge steel, i cut with metal sheers and works great!

Super helpful. Barracks room hobby storage is a bitch with my single closet, so I think I’ll start using these once I get more models.

You could probably take the plastic boxes and glue/otherwise fasten some sheet steel down instead of that rather weak magnetic sheeting stuff to get a more travel safe version. The hard part being getting sheet steel of the right sort in the right shape, which means either effort to find that or effort to make it the right shape.

Right on - could get hold of some thing metal sheets. As you say would take a bit more effort but would be more robust

I love your hobby space, Jeff. Mine is a bit bigger, but yours is much more tidy. I've tried the magnetic mats as you have, but I wonder if mild steel sheeting would provide better adhesion. In my experience minis slide around on the mats, even with neodymium magnets. Thanks for the insight, per usual. o7

Much Love Lieutenant Smith. Thin metal sheets would be way better than these cheap magnetic ones. Would take a bit more effort but would be a much more robust solution

This also just occurred to me. Many tool boxes will have issues of either a bit too shallow if they're the sort with drawers or wasted volume if they aren't, but there are certainly ones out there that fit the bill. Will also have to keep an eye on the sort of metal they're made of, gotta make sure you get something magnetic. Other sorts of metal boxes, like cookie tins, might also work. Not sure if those are reliably made of magnetic steel though.
