Due to Gander Mountain's liquidation sale Muzzleloaders are 30-60% off. If you are interested you can get a decent rifle for $50-$150.
In my case I found a CVA Buckhorn Magnum .50 that was originally priced at $150. It had been marked down to $100 and after the 30% off it only cost $70.
I also had to buy a few accessories
Powder horn $7
Powder Measure $7
Pyrodex powder $20
209 Primers $3
Lee Real 320 Grn Bullet mold $20
Bullet Starter $5
Brush, Mop and Jag set $7
So my total cost was around $140 for a complete setup.
I can make 20 bullets out of a dollar pound of lead.
The buckhorn is a decent starter rifle and would be decent enough to take a deer. Obviously more expensive rifles have better features but the only real complaints I have are the action needs to be removed from the stock for cleaning and the sights need a bit of glue to make sure they don't fall off.

Cheap ass guns kill just as good as expensive guns. They put food in the gut when needed. Also blackpowder can be made if needed and bullets can be cast as you did.

Black Powder guns are tons of fun to shoot. One nice development is Blackhorn 209 powder. It's non-corrosive like smokeless powder but safe to use in Black powder guns. The only drawback is that it requires a hot 209 primer to set it off so you can only use it in inlines that have 209 primer ignition. It makes cleaning an optional task after shooting like on smokeless powder guns. I would have bought some but it was all sold out at Gander.

I have a few, I have the caps, powder and ball. I have never had the ambition to actually shoot and then clean them. I will probably do it for a video at some point just for fun but BP is such a mess to clean and loading 6 cylinders seems like it would be a PITA

Good video on cleaning. I bought mine at the flee market for 40 bucks it hadn’t been cleaned in a while but I cleaned it it shoot fine but to clean it isn’t worth shooting unless you were going to shoot for the day maybe

They get just about as dirty on the first shot as they do on the 100th shot. Just run a solvent damp cleaner patch down the barrel when you feel it getting hard to ram the ball or whatever you are shooting. Black powder shooting is fun.

I’m reassembling mine and it has a small piece that I think goes inside the spring and buts up to the cap that is screwed on. It’s maybe a half inch long tubular piece and I believe is just support for the spring to sit in. Is your missing this piece? Or? Can I send you a picture?

Hey bud, I picked up an inline for my old lady that did not have a manual. So before I possibly give her the wrong data, is the breech plug right hand thread or left?
@stevanrose7439
@stevanrose7439 2 года назад
It’s right hand. And shouldn’t be to hard to remove. Just make sure you put some anti seize on the threads when you put it back. And just put it in snug it doesn’t have to be to tight.
@Jagdtyger2A
@Jagdtyger2A 2 года назад
@@stevanrose7439 That is what I thought, but even penetrating oil failed to loosen the breech plug and I have had to send it to a gunsmith with a bigger lathe than I have. I think that the previous owner was a Moron who used super glue instead of anti seize

I buy Black powder,.......Because in my guns it practically makes 1 hole. The fake shit I don't like period. Some of it requires specific cleaning products to clean it,.....if you use hot soapy water it turns it in to like cement and the barrel begins rusting. Black powder simply shoots perfect and cleans up with soapy hot water. I used to have knights, CVA's a total of 5 when I started I bought pyrodex and you could barely hit a 5 gallon bucket at 50 yards,.......I was young and didn't know any better so I practically gave them away cheap. Then all I had was a TC New Englander I seen black powder like 6 years later I tried it and could not believe it was a one holer. I will never use anything but Black powder. My neighbors barrels look like shit like rusty cement in the barrel. So check your barrels if it requires specific cleaners it makes shooting more expensive.

wd 40. it will clean it squeaky cleen with no mess
@GunAndShotTV

WD is good for one thing in my book, Displacing water. The problem is that even regular gun cleaners don't work for Black powder because the corrosion is caused by salts left in the barrel. Like mention in the video salts will not dissolve in oil so WD 40 isn't doing to dissolve them. They will still be stuck in the barrel and once the WD40 runs off or evaporates the salts will be exposed to air again, attract moisture and cause rust.

I bought an inline muzzleloader used at a Pawn shop, It was super cheap for 37 dollars, The only things I could find wrong with it was it was missing a ramrod, the plastic trigger guard was cracked, and it needed cleaning, but all of that was an easy fix so, kind of hard to beat for the money.

I bought a brand new old stock muzzle loader and the bolt was so tight I had to use a vice to get it out. The gun shop didn't even bother to check it for me before putting out for sale. Broke the iron sight off in the process. Oh well didn't like that plastic pice of crap anyway...

Can you show which primers it takes and how to put them in
@jamesblaylock1494
@jamesblaylock1494 5 лет назад
That gun uses a 209 shotgun primer. Most guns come with a tool that you slide the primer on and just plug it right into the breach. Very difficult to do without the tool on this particular gun unless you have small fingers
@stevanrose7439
@stevanrose7439 2 года назад
My buddy brought his up to shoot and we didn’t have the tool for the primer so I used tweezers. Then he went home and found the tool. But not the breech plug wrench. So we made one out of a 1/2 inch bolt and it worked great. Gotta get the plug out to clean the gun properly. And make sure you put some plug grease on the threads for the next time or you may regret it.

Hopefully you didn’t give up on that steal of a rifle you got. Lee REAL’s dont shoot worth a damn in a 1/28 barrel. You should try one of your cast 452 or 458 in a sabot. My buckhorn is a dead killer. Welcome to the world of smoke poles buddy

*The EARLY inline CVA guns, "such as this one", have a well earned reputation of infamy for blowing up if given magnum powder charges. The pressure of "Light to Moderate Charges" are all they can endure without becoming a pipe bomb. YOUR 75 grains is plenty for that gun. LOADING 100 grains ?? FORGET ABOUT IT !*

There is a recall on models with certain serial numbers, but my wind river easily handles 150 grains but most of my loads are way less even for hunting.
