Shade cloth: amzn.to/2YXzwE5
When the temperature is rising over 100° it is time to install shade cloth to protect the garden and decrease the temperature about 15°. This solution was incredibly easy and fast and looks great. I recommend you doing the same exact thing!

@@freewillchoice8052 It's been a lifesaver. I even have a smaller one hanging down on the west side to block the evening sun. It's been between 100 and 110 degrees every day lately and the plants are taking a beating, but without the shade, they would've been dead a long time ago.

The brutal sun and heat here in Florida this year is one reason why I planted my stuff in containers. Many of them are in shade, some are in partial shade, and some are in the sun, depending on their needs. My bushes and trees provide enough shade and different kinds to allow me to move the plants around if needed, especially as the summer progresses and the sun's position changes. I put most of them up on tables or chairs, so I don't have to bend down to weed or plant. Some are suspended from my wood fence. They don't need staking, because they use the bush, tree or fence for their climbing. Gardening in Florida near the water is a challenge, because we don't have "soil" we have sand. It takes a lot of amendments to grow something well. Containers help me limit how much leaf mold and compost I need to use. Very nice garden you have, and the shade cover looks very nice. Happy gardening!

Thank you very much for watching! I used to live in Florida (Orlando) but honestly it has been so long ago that I do not remember how hot it was compared to TX... we are still getting 105 degree days here though. I did used to do a lot of container gardening for your same exact reason, but in my experience potted plants require a lot more water so I ended up watering every day, whereas I do not have to water a garden daily. Our soil here is not very good either, which is why I have a raised garden bed. The "soil" I use is just peat moss and compost, so it is fluffy and the compost gives the nutrients. I have a video on how I made my garden bed, if you are interested. You could also make a raised bed higher so it is easier to access.

I also live in Florida, having been born in south Florida (to a family who owned and operated a landscaping company) and grew up in north rural Florida gardening a 3/4 acre lot behind our house. I spent my career years in Orlando and now live on the Central Florida west coast. There are climate/soil differences in each of those locations, however currently I do both container and raise bed gardening basically for the same reasons that have already been listed by others on this thread. Living on Pinellas “Island” (LOL) is very challenging; if you want a nice yard prepare to spend time and/or money on getting one. Keeps me off the streets and out of trouble! LOL

I’m sitting here watching my newly planted hydrangeas wilting in real time and it’s not even 90ish much. (Alabama here). I’ve never had to shade anything near my house. We get shade. These hydrangeas get only 4hr of sun a day….but they were 3 gal pots and pretty big already so they aren’t established yet and I’m scrambling. Right now I’m putting my garden chairs in front of them 😂. It’s working for the most part but if they don’t get some legs soon and harden off I’m in trouble July and August. I’ll need something. Ty for the tips.
