*Lures looks very realistic even prunked my friends with it.Looks very durable **enjoyable.fishing** recommend sunk very good into the water.Cons: Storage package could be bigger.*
Yah. the views on this give the story. easiest way to make a fluid bed on youtube. I watched the video took notes, went to home depot/amazon, bought the parts and followed the video. I was powder coating beautifully after my first run. love it. good work.
Just made 5 of these and your instructions were great and these fluid beds work out perfectly. The whisper 60 paired with those plastic valves really help fine tune the powder movement in the cup. With the "buy in costs" for material you can build 20 of these. I used a miter saw to get smooth cuts on the PVC. Thanks for the video!
I made a dozen of these fluid beds. I made labels and applied them. I also wanted to tell you about the Spigot plug that I used on tod. The spigot plug is loose fitting on the 2" tubing. I found that i could take a 3 oz plastic SOLO drinking cup and put over the spigot plug and push it down and then cut the excess plastic off, that it fits the loose gap on the tube. the rolled drinking edge leaves a 1/16 " gap. Now you don't have to worry about your paint spilling out.
I used your method it works perfectly only thing I did different was I used my battery Air raider from what I use for minnows from my bait bucket and it works perfect!
Great video! I made 7 of these similar to yours but used 1 1/2" PVC and made the top pipe 4" long since I'm dipping GIANT 4 ounce jig heads in them that have a BIG 8/0 hook size. Lowes Charlotte test caps were crap because they were so loose they wouldn't stay in the pipe if you tilted it over and they were more than twice the cost of the Oatey brand ones that fit much better and were deeper I got from Home Depot. Of course with inflation they way it is now the cost has significantly gone up :(
I just built 5 of these. I changed the dimensions abit and used a needle valve from Home Depot. They work flawlessly with 20# copy paper as a diffuser. Thanks!
Great breakdown. I will be using this method to custom paint Hot Wheels cars. Seems like it will be easier than using spray paints or an airbrush system.
Thanks for the awesome tutorial. I think I'll use your design and maybe just glue in the bottom portion with no paper, then glue the paper to a bunch of top sections and swap them out on one base. Great tutorial!
Thanks for the great video. New at this and the video was so helpful. Made five bowels a few months ago using this tutorial, have painted dozens of times, and they work great! Copier paper works with no issues, good flow and no blow outs. I also, as Chris, used gorilla glue to assemble and holding fine thus far. Neat, Simple, Inexpensive and they work!!
Great video. Possible cheaper way….. I use a section of the 1/4” thick cardboard tubes that my rods from Tackle Direct were shipped in. Comes with 2 end caps. Then only needed one piece of PVC for either the base or the insert.
I totally get it, but how do you replace our filter paper later? It is cheaper but the Union makes replacing media easy. The cost of the union is still cheap when factoring in the cost savings of jig making.
This is a really awesome setup. I thought of an improvement. You could set up a manifold to your aquarium pump. Then you wouldn't have to switch the line. Just turn on the pump and open the valve for the color you want to use. Again, thanks for the great info. Hope you catch a monster.
Nice video. Do have the link for the air valves? Also have you tried to make any out of 1.5" PVC? That way it would use even less paint? Also if you cut the 2 1/4 longer would that help reduce some mess and bubbling out paint?
I didn’t try any smaller diameter PVC. I was afraid it would be too narrow to fit large jigs comfortably. You could try longer pieces of PVC. I never saw any need to. Depending on what you’re doing though, you might want longer PVC.
Thanks for the video. It was easy and inexpensive to make. I am having issue with the painted jig head looking like sand paper. Am I not getting the lead hot enough? Thanks
How do you keep the paint out of your jig eyes especially when powder coating very small jigs like 1/32 oz. ? I appreciate your video and I made some fluid beds thanks to you.
If you can angle your jigs so that the eyes don’t get in the powder, that is best. If you have to dip the eye, make sure the jig is good and hot. The powder melts a little thinner on a hot jig. Sometimes tapping your pliers/hemostats on the side of the cup, after you dip it, can help to knock off the extra.
Do you typically have a fluid bed for each color you want to dip or can you use the same bed for different colors, just have to clean it out in-between
The whisper pump came from Amazon or Walmart. I can’t exactly remember, but I think they were both the same price at the time. As far as the valves, I just searched Amazon for aquarium air valve and those came up.
@@xengxuevang I've been told that TJ's cups use a membrane that is the best thing you can use. I bought some from them, to try, about a year ago, but I never got around to it. I like my little cheapy cups pretty well.
I don’t sell them. Shipping would add a lot of expense. There are a few places you can buy them. Check lure making suppliers like Jann’s Netcraft or Barlow’s. There is a small supplier that has a following on RU-vid. I can’t remember the name of the company but it’s a father/son company. Lots of guys really like their cups.
You need to cure your parts in an oven to get the most durable finish. If you don’t cure them, the paint will be brittle. You should be able to drop your jigs on concrete, with some force, and they shouldn’t chip. I cure mine at about 350 F for about 25 minutes. I use a toaster oven. Don’t trust the built in thermostat. Get a food thermometer to check the oven’s actual temp.
if you make few your idea is great but if you make only one the 10 feet 1.5 is 35$ canadian the union value is 15$ canadian its more cheaper to go that way if you make only one but great idea
Side note. You’re dead on with the printer paper. Thinking I knew better, I tried several other materials. 20lb printer paper produces the best powder fluid for myself as well. Almost no volcano. Very even deep fluffing.
@@steelcitybullyz6843 I had the same thing with my build today. When I opened my new paint there were clumps but I broke those all out. When in the cup there were holes in the paint and some fine dust making its way up in the air above the cup but no matter how I adjusted the valve it really did not work. Think I will try with a union and coffee filters next. Yeah it will cost more but hopefully it will work. If it don't I guess I will try a new thing of paint.
@@justtinkering6054 I made one and tried it a little out of 1.5” because of the 2oz pro tec powder containers. I’ve never tried a fluid bed before until this one so I’m not sure how it’s supposed to look or act while it’s on or how much powder to put in the thing at once. It’s the same concept but I wasn’t sure if 2” would work better being bigger and more area for the powder to move
Might be a bit too porous. Also, I was afraid it would tear when pushing the two halves together. You could try though. If you do, let me know how it works. Thanks.
Would you be willing to make me 5 and I can pay you through PayPal and you can send them to me? I'm just getting into powder painting jig heads. I'll pay for shipping too. Let me know brother. Thanks and God bless.
Should have put the paper on the top piece, then you wouldn't have to take the valve in or out. I JB Welded my valve in (hot glue would work fine too),I also used a manifold to split air to 10-12 different fluid beds. I also saved a lot of $$ buying 1lb of powder for $10-24/lb instead of that overpriced "jig special" powder.....LOL they're no different,it's the fool believing the marketing bluff they feed ya.How much is that "special" powder per lb....remember 16oz/lb.. LOL They're 1000's of colors also..
