So, at the time of filming, this was the cheapest lock pick set on Amazon.uk. But is it any good?

Excellent cheap sauce of material to experiment with to make new designs with various thicknesses and types of handles ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-UN3pZk3Og2E.html

I have used Milliput epoxy putty, fairly cheap, to make handles for these sort of things. Also got it on a couple of Praxis lockpicks. You could also make long strips and spot weld or epoxy a pair in the middle, although going that far I would prefer buying good quality picks to start off with.

So I'm a total newbie to picking and a set like this came as a free gift with another full size cheap set. Within 20 minutes or using the larger set, I was also able to pick every lock in my household with the little credit card set as well, just a tad awkward with no handle to rest on. Not sure if I have a natural talent or every lock in my house is pathetic and I should look into adding more security to my exterior doors
@kobold90
@kobold90 2 года назад
@@dnixon0627 I picked my first lock with a hair pin. I bought a cheap, crappy set (AGT) and picked every easy lock in my house the day the set arrived. Nevertheless, it didn't need much to show the limits of that cheap set and now two better sets are incoming. I want to pick that nasty Abus 75/40.

Pro tip; ditch the crappy plastic case, drill a hole through the handles of the picks and attach them to each other with a nut & bolt. When you're picking with one, the others act as a sort of handle. Definite improvement for those with the larger mitts

The credit card lock pick set was indeed the very first set I owned. Actually it was an accident, I thought I had preferred a puck gun and the credit card set cane instead. I didn't read the small print. Within an hour of it arriving I wad asked of I could get a licked desk drawer open. I thought to myself "That was good timing". 20 seconds after squatting in front of the desk it was open. I knew I was hooked. Took me 5 minutes to get the drawer to relock. Since then I ordered a second set (long story) and I received a third chucked in with some picking tools on another occasion. One of the three sets came as rough as yours but the other two just needed a tickle with sandpaper. Ditch the case and put them in your pocket, you just never know when they may be useful. I have opened lots of locks with them. Just to add... why not try to order a decent set using the credit card cover. 🤣

As a Detroit factory worker I can tell you thats NOT laser cut. I've worked with 6 axis laser machines they cut fairly smooth. I also worked in a stamping facility. Those were stamped which is why you see the marks on the edges. That just means the die cutting it was wearing out.

I’m a complete newcomer to lock picking, and my wife bought me this set. I’m so glad to see that I’m not the only one who struggles with them due to thickness. The only thing I’ve really found any use for is the turning tool when used for top of keyway tensioning (fortunately I have another set of picks that seem to be a little easier to use, if not also a bit on the thick side).

What are you folks even doing to have some cheap picks "save your neck a couple of times"? Are you randomly getting trapped in places, or deciding bar fights with a lockpicking competition or doing surprise geocaching or spontaneous physical pentesting/red teaming or helping old ladies get into their homes all the time or what?
@HobbyPicker
@HobbyPicker 3 года назад
@@NormanTheDormantDoormat Primarily for those annoying times you (or a forgetful colleague) leaves their locker keys at home or accidentally locks the filing cabinet keys inside the cabinet, there are countless times when accidents happen and can be very frustrating unless you have something like this available. To give you another example; my boss was in our store at work last month when he got distracted by a phone call, and ended up clicking shut the padlock while the keys were inside. He spent a long time trying to smash open the padlock with a 2lb hammer which resulted in a damaged door and slightly dented lock, all because he didn't have lockpicking knowledge or a simple set of tools like this. Had I been around, I could have opened the lock and retrieved the keys without any damage to the door/lock.

Thickness isn't too bad for those in the US. I have used them quite a bit. Obviously not as good as my regular picks but surprisingly decent. I've got a lot of use out of the tension tool. In the end regular picks with handles cut down are probably better.

Fun fact: the tension tool is the only one I have that is small enough to work decently with the Multipick Mk2 cylinder. Of course that simply means I don't have a decent selection of tension tools. The €16 set of Banggood picks and a plastic learning lock had those thrown in more or less "for free", so it doesn't hurt to have them (until you use them...)

The gasps of surprise win over the picks, hands down. To be fair, if you can pick with Bobby pins, it's hardly surprising these would work and like you say, a little more finesse in finishing would make then the perfect "keep in the pocket" set. Maybe Ucof could make a handle that would fit into the card body, a little like the tweezers of a Victorinox Swiss Army knife? 🤔

I got this set of picks as some kind of free add-on to another lockpicking product that I bought, and my set isn't that sharply edged. Actually my card picks and the tensioner feel quite well finished. So, maybe they either changed something on their production process, or your package somehow missed the quality control. BTW, after watching your video, I took my set out of my wallet and tried the city rake on an Abus Buffo. I was almost as surprised as you were in your picking test, when it opened quite quickly. Then I tried it on the old Abus that I took out of our flat's door (in that week I started lockpicking). It opened almost just as fast. Phew! I hope our new Titalium cylinder is less vulnerable, at least to a low skill raking attack.

Hi Lock Noob. I'd just like to say that they have since updated this set, from Loboo Idea's amazon page: "High Quality. This is the improved new design pick set, more springy, durable and easy to use. It will come out in perfect smooth working condition with no loose parts or pins. Each tool is made of fine .035 spring stainless steel." I ordered it a few days ago and I can confirm that there are no sharp edges or burrs on any of the tools and the steel seems to be a bit shinier than the one in the video. They have upped the price to £2.99 now so I'm guessing that the extra money was put into the finish. Not sure if they have changed the thickness - I don't have a thickness gauge :-)

@@LockNoob you are welcome to do so, and we All say IT our own ways (and IT is ok with me) but what i see is that people keep calling rakes a pick together with hooks and All the others and yet they call spping for picking witch (for me anyway) seems wrong as you pick with a pick and if a rake is a pick then you are also picking with a rake so i just think IT is more pricise to say what techniques names but then Again you do you👍

You actually use a raking motion with the city rake(L rake)? I thought you are suppose to rock it up n down?

You are right, but it’s a tool that has flexibility and if it opens a lock, you used it correctly :-)

I am as surprised with that as you. They look pretty crude and the shaft is wide as well as remarkably thick. You would have to spend a fair bit of time touching them up with sandpaper and I imagine, a file.

You would, and I doubt it would really be worth it!

Basically that the keyway has warding that does not leave a vertical gap from the bottom to the pins. AKA a wiggly keyway :-)
