Good video! I'm from the U.S. and of course I deal mostly with U.S. sellers. I have bought lots of amps on ebay and all but one sounded good. Over 93% of them worked. Most just about perfect. A few that you had to jiggle the knobs every now and then, that actually went away with daily use on one. One was a bit staticy when you turned the controls. That's about all I can think of. Don't expect them all to give more than 2 to 4 years of service before needing attention though. I've had a few problems with cassette decks on there, as they are highly mechanical. No problems with loudspeakers, and only one problem with the many speaker drivers I've bought on there. It's not that risky as you think. Over 90% ok except for cassette decks. I did deal with sellers who had at least 98% positive feedback. Even bought some stuff from the U.K. which was all good.
Sounds like you are doing well! Most of my stuff has been fine (apart from Amstrad stuff) given that a squirt of deoxit is the most renovation I have done. Looking at a JVC amp as my next purchase now
The NAD 3020 integrated is the most famous piece of NAD gear. Known for it's really nice sounding midrange. Not bad anywhere really. Some vintage NAD gear is known for exaggerating vocal sibilance a little bit, which is not good. NAD also made a turntable with a very unusual thin flat tonearm. The NAD 6100 and other models of the 6000 series of cassette decks were made by Tandberg; possibly the finest cassette deck maker on the planet back then. If you are looking for best sound quality in a vintage integrated amp, something inexpensive on the used market, the older Denon optical class A amps are about the best you can do. NAD also made headphones.
hi fi equipment is the most maintenance free technology you can buy, but after 40 odd years all units will need cleaning, service and recapping otherwise they will not sound their best
I have and do 'love' vintage NAD 3400 Integrated amplifier. Do you know anything about it. Not much shows online about it in searches. It is about to need some refurbishing, but gotten for a bargain. Cheers from NYC.
Haven’t seen one for sale on eBay and don’t know much about it, they must be pretty rare! Am glad you are enjoying it, I am toying with the idea of getting one of my NADs recapped to see what difference it makes
@@theebayhififanatic6002 I would hesitate to recap an NAD amp if It sounds fine and says made in japan on the back. Now made in Taiwan or Malaysia is a different story. I have 7125, 7250PE, and 7175PE, all made in Japan. I serviced these but I'm not a knee-jerk recapper. I recapped the preamp power supply on one unit and muting circuit on another. Found one cap out of about 20 with a high esr and the rest all tested fine (out of circuit). I replaced them anyway as part of troubleshooting. I think if you took 2 Taiwan units and recapped just one, you might hear a difference. Was hoping you were going to open up that proton. You can spot 3020 circuitry right away and there are tons of photos/videos online.
