If I drive ten miles down the road from here, there's a small village where all the houses used to belong to a large private estate - think Downton Abbey with bells on. All the cottages were sold off a few years ago and a lot have since been what we call "gentrified" - the old cottages have been extended, the gardens landscaped, and the properties now cost a fortune. Along the high street there's one cottage which has a rather grand extension, and behind that there are what clearly used to be outhouses of some sort but are now garages. If you look closely you can see that they used to be stables, which makes sense if you look at the name of the house "The Old Smithy". There are lots of English villages like that but this old smithy has the distinction of being where my father's mother was born and where my great-grandfather lived and worked as the village blacksmith. Meanwhile, over on the east coast, there's a small-holding where my mother's family lived and grew their own food - ranging from carrots and onions up to and including pigs and goats. They too had a stable block but the only horses that stayed there were the ones my grandfather shoed and cared for. He was the farrier. So, Nathan, as you move from wood to metal, be very careful. I may be cheering you on but my ancestors will be watching very carefully. 🤣🤣🤣

For some reason I didn’t think you had a lot of cherry that far south. A bunch of other stuff but not to heavy on cherry. Guess I should count my blessings here in PA.

cutting trees, dressing them for the mill then slicing into lumber must be amazing and give you so many thrills let alone then utilising the lumber to make structures and projects you need. if that involves your own forests simply amazing stuff.

This video was great timing for me. I'm rearranging my vertical spaces in my garage/shop by removing three old white hardboard pegboards (48" x 96") and random hooks and hangers. I just purchased four of these (48" x 32") metal pegboards and I'm excited to see what creative ideas I can produce using them. SPECIAL NOTE***** There was a 15% coupon that could also be combined with your 20% code for 40% off.

Nathan, you are becoming quite the artisan! with woodworking skills and now gearing up for metalwork, their is so many possibIlities. You may have to start going to more shows for ideas to combine the two. Thanks Nathan for taking the time to explain what you do, I really do look forward to your videos. One other thing, if I was out there in Tenn. I would help you cut your grass and weed eat around your tools and things… hahaha.

No need for anything fancy for the anvil, most blacksmiths I know use a tree stump and hold the anvil down with straps over the feet nailed onto the stump. I'm sure you can find a suitable tree stump somewhere...😊

I need that peg board so thanks for that. I have a few sections of 1/4" melamine/hardboard but over time they suffer some damage and pegs have to moved around a little. The place is looking great Nathan. Can't wait to see it in action.

That welding table is a toy 40lbs and spindly support legs hit it with a 6 pound hammer a few times you'll understand . Get a welding machine and build your own . At minimum 3/8" plate top 4'X4', pipe or square tubing legs on steel castors 6" in diameter with a junk rack below the table and a minimum of a 5" record vise on table edge . go to fire ball tools for decent metal fab tools . You will have a lot of fun welding and forging . Mixed with wood you can make real artist projects with function

Fyi: for the person asking about Coal. You would want to avoid that as much as possible when doing Smithy work. I preferred heat source is coke. Which burns hotter and cleaner a little side note of History it's the preferred way of Moonshiners to heat up stuff without giving off smoke if you know what I mean.
