If I have headphones in to hear myself record said interview, will I be hearing only out of my left ear for both of our audio tracks since it is stereo and not mono? Ideally I'd love to hear from both ears while recording. Any info helps! Haven't gotten my second mic in the mail yet to try it!
Nice information, although when you are talking about the plug in mode for the device it is not for power plug in. It is really for plugging into the 3.5 mic jack that is behind the screen window. It turns it on. Also it is never a good idea to leave phantom power on in case someone uses certain types of mics. Dynamic mics are safe but there are others that are not. Other than that I thank you for an insightful video.
We're musicians who use the H4n mic for Zoom lessons and Livestream concerts. Does four channel work for webcasts, using the H4n with both built-in and external mics as the source for all 4 channels? Asking to see if we should invest in external mics to go along with built-in mics. We would want to set different levels for different instruments and mics. All-acoustic, mostly classical crossover music.

Preamps are very sensitive and with too hot of a signal they can be damaged. In general, you don’t want to run a line level (High Z) signal into a preamp. You should NOT take a 3.5 mm output from your laptop and directly plug it into the H4N’s XLR input. Even though you’ve identified an adapter that will help you make the transition… You can purchase an external DI (Direct Injection Box), and XLR turn-around adapter to change your high Z signal to a low Z signal that you can safely send to your H4N. The same process is used with Pro-Sumer cameras/camcorders that require a 3.5 mm high Z input signal from a soundboard. In this case, you’re sending a signal rather than receiving one. DI’s can work in both directions… I hope this helps
I think I'm having the same problem. When you plugged in the XLR, there's no input that is detected. Do you have any thoughts on how to correct this? Thank you!
Hey you didn’t go into how to setup for more than two mics can you elaborate on how to setup for at least 4 xlr mics using the zoom h4 pro please? Thanks
The Zoom H4 will only take 2 XLR mics at a time. The 4 tracks are (2) XLR mics, and the (2) Stereo mic pair on top of the device. If you need to record with 4 XLR mics you'll want the Zoom H6 instead.

I wanted to record 2 jack mics that were input in 2 ports on the bottom of the device. Hey quick question. I have the same exact setting set up as you and once I upload the audio file to GarageBand...my audio only comes out of one side of the speaker/headphone. Any advice?
