If you'd like to check and/or replace your capacitors in your Bernina 930, all you need is a screwdriver, soldering iron, appropriate replacement capacitors and this video.
This video is an in-depth guide to this procedure, covering removing panels to gain access, removing the electronic board, inspecting/replacing capacitors, assembly and testing.
I have added chapters so you can jump to any section you like.
Details of subjects covered can be found in the index below.

Thank you for this video. It gave me just what I needed to repair my wifes' machine. The .1 fmd capacitor on her machine blew and the repair shop said it couldn't be repaired and she would have to buy a new one. Your video showed that it could be repaired. So I did. Thank you again.

Most enjoyable peering inside a Bernina 930. Your videos are superb, and so is your knowledge. Best of all, you solve all the problems easily. I made notes on my Bernina sheet as some day I will get one, esp if its a rescue and the capacitor is fried, ha ha! I will know now to fix it. I love it when a discarded machine comes back to life with some TLC and new parts. I've rescued so many already besides other things. Thank you!

Thank you so much for this video. I have a Bernina 910 so very similar. I had called up my local sewing machine place and they quoted me $225 to fix it - with a deep service and said the part was $49 with a 2 week wait. My husband went to the local electronics store and bought the capacitor for $1.25. With the help of your video we were back in action in a matter of hours!! So thank you so much !!!!!

Can you please tell me what kind of capacitor is it? I am in Los Angeles and I don't know what kind of replacement to get. Thank you!

Also, would it be the same capacitor work for a machine with U.S. electrical specs??? Thank you. Don't know anything about electronics. My x also blew and would like to replace both, as it shows here. Thanks, again.

Fantastic video!!!! Thank you so much. When my wife's machine made a bang, emitted smoke, and stopped working a week or so ago I thought we were in for an expensive repair and, even, worse, I'd have to put up with her without her machine for the time it took us to find a repair shop and get the work done. But thanks to this video the hardest part of the repair was sourcing the replacement caps! We did get caught out by the LED connectors - not the cleverest design to have a 4 pin connector into a 6 pin socket, as, naturally, I chose to reconnect back into the wrong 4 sockets. Shame they didn't use 6 pin connectors with 2 blank. As a bonus whilst the machine was in pieces I cut and pulled off the old and worn/part broken plastic thread spool holders and 3D printed some new ones. Mine don't lock in place like the originals but look a lot nicer, are a bit sturdy and being push on/pull off means I can easily make new ones if these do get damaged. Thanks again - saved us much time and money.

It’s so fascinating watching you work on these machines. Your camera angles are excellent. Thank you for a great video.

It was very cool how the board had optional holes in it that fit your new parts so well...! As the other person has written, thank you for making this for us! 😄🏆💡

Good video. I have changed the same type in my 1987 Bernina electronic 830 sewing machine foot pedal. I just bought a 1983 Bernina 910 the same PC board and motor as a 930 and I am going to change them out as preventative maintance before they burst and could catch fire from what I have read.

I've sourced replacement capacitors here in the UK - but have a choice of lead spacings; varies from 15mm to 22.5mm. One X2 capacitor has 27.5mm. Before I open up the back of the machine, can you recall the capacitor lead spacings you fitted for both X and Y caps. Many thanks such for a great video.

@6:15 the amazing disappearing screw! :) And these "Safety caps" need to be replaced, they a ticking time bomb otherwise. And the problems extends across many electronic devices, not just sewing machines. Convenient that they left you a second mounting hole. I don't think that I have seen that before.

I found the right capacitor but I just need one and they will send 20! Is there anywhere I can just get one?

I just bought this machine secondhand, and it s pristine. The X capacitor that you replaced first has been replaced in my machine. There is a Y capacitor that looks like the one in your video, and you replaced it. However, the Y capacitor in my machine looks to be in better shape. I see no cracking on it. Should I replace it anyway?

Hi. If it's a Rifa branded one, I would replace it. Thanks.

Could those damaged capacitors cause the machine to not turn on?. Thanks.

I guess it's possible. Removing them and trying the machine may confirm that. Thanks.

I like to replace them because the machine will interfere with AM radio and the like. Call me old fashioned but I still use AM :)
