I replaced my upper ball joint yesterday. When the control arm sat down on it the bottom of the rubber boot lifted and was exposed. Is that supposed to stay sealed? I'd assume so if the grease goes through the bottom or else it can just be added under the boot
the boot should be sealed. If you have a greaseable ball joint some grease will purge out the boot when pumped full of grease. If you look closer at your old ball joint and it moves very easily it is worn out and needed replacement.
I used a cheap press I purchased on eBay. I had to make an adapter out of conduit couplings since the set did not come with the size I needed. Most auto parts stores in the U.S. will lend you the press for free. Best of luck to you on your repair.
worn ball joints affect your alignment and can wear the tires unevenly. if just one edge is missing tread you may wish to check the camber angle (part of an alignment) on your vehicle. I wish you the best on your repair
This guy must not know what a Ball joint remover press is. They come right out easily with a ball joint press, after you get the flange off, the trick is to make sure you get that flange off COMPLETELY, then with the press installed and a few good whacks with it under presser with a sledge hammer and they come right out... Besides you need a installer press to put the new ball joints in anyways, as its the only way to put enough force on the new ball joints to get them in. Sure beats the old days where you had to drive the rivets out of ball joints that are factory installed, those sucked! LOL
On the Trailblazer and Evoy, the ball joint bottom flange is to the edge of the steering knuckle, thus the method I used eliminates the need to remove the bottom flange to use the press.
Not a chance my man with that lower ball joint it had to take hours I've used a press and beat the shit out of it and it still won't budge what did you use I know it wasn't just a socket and hammer
The ball joint has a collar on it so a press will not work. It helps to put penetrating oil on the ball joint and once started it will move easier. Best of luck to you.
@@bbbjim1fixedit every vid I've seen on trailblazer the use the ball joint tool and theirs come out so easy I just bought a map torch I think if I heat it and then use a hammer it should budge 160000 miles original ball joint
If you look at your new ball joint it has a shoulder on it that covers the end of the control arm. I placed a jack under the control arm to support it and used a 4 pound hammer, heat also may help. Best of luck to you
@@bbbjim1fixedit I see that and I just watched a video that the guys were using a speacial cup that had a cutout and it rested on the two tabs sticking out on the control arm
