many of the old suburbans were used as school buses, they were also used in forestry and other gov gigs. hope that helps in the why

Someone else said because it was that was the curb side that the passengers would get out of. That all seems to track

Haha thank you! It's what happens when you've been watching top gear and roadkill for a solid decade

I had a Dodge dakota. I bought a half a dozen years ago maybe longer. Anyway I drove for a little while just kind of a cheap truck cheap on gas everything else. Really did not need it took it out to the farm let it be used out there. It really didn't get used and I ended up giving it to an extended relative. I want to say it was a 92 or something like that but whatever year it was it was rated the best year for a Dodge Dakota out of all Dakota's. Had that V6 in there and it ran like a v8. When gas is hitting $5 a gallon and I wish I'd kept it but that relative made good use of it. By the way it was still about 300 mi shy of 100,000 miles when I gave it away. So if you're looking to fix up something that's economical cheap to find parts for that's your truck. Another thing people do with them is floor boarding. Now that's a very ancient term in the car business but they essentially put nobody on this frame. They use the existing dash and firewall to keep the electronics as they are. Then they put the body on top of this from something from 1930 for example. Makes a very cheap rat rod. Cadillac putting a late forties or early 50 Chevy truck on a S10. Except for here they're still using the firewall and the floorboards of the Dakota. That would be a lot of RU-vid content if you went that route

They're definitely the best looking and most mechanically sound of the Dakotas. I do have a 49 plymouth that could really use a fresh drivetrain! Haha not a bad idea

@@junkyardjoe1994 you know I've got some pictures of what an old boy did and he's in his mid-80s now he has been building cars forever. And I should put his stuff up on my channel. I've never done it for a couple of reasons. One of them is that I don't have video only pictures of what he has. But if the wheelbase comes close to fitting that's all that counts. You can always cut and well the frame as well. Sounds like a good match. Also would be a healthy amount of content for your channel
