I have used Asrock mobos for 4 builds and can’t say enough good things about them. My current system is 10850k z490 Taichi and couldn’t find a 3080 so based on your review on the Asrock 6800xt Taichi , I bought one and haven’t looked back .Thanks Wendell.

@@swizzler8053 Argentina, prices all over the place. Some RX 6700 costs more than some 6800/6800XT and viceversa, same as Nvidia. Thing is , you can get more performance out of the box with some cool Radeon AIB . As a 3080 user I can confirm, that Ampere doesn't have so much power to squeeze, even their higher end models.

WRT to SMD RAM slots being better for signal integrity - yes, but ones that you shown not so much. These are probably used to spare the area underneath and expenses ( less drilling, simpler soldering). For signal integrity you'd probably need ones that have pads on the one side or looking in the same direction.

I just bought this card, getting ready to do a full new build around AMD but also holding off the rest of the build to see what is introduced in Q1. My biggest problem: Not enough Micro ATX boards for these cards. There's literally absolutely no use for more than 1 PCI 16 and I'm tired full and mid towers.

Yea, but how much of a difference is there between the ASRock OC and a reference 6900XT? Say in *actual* real world performance? Microcenter has the Formula OC for about $1750, but a reference 6900xt can be had direct from AMD for around 1100$ or so if you get lucky with the drops. Is the extra 600$ worth it for the OC?

So happy the world of prices has changed so much in the past year .... nice to read this after buying 6950xt formula oc for 700$ .... it’s a decent deal for the current market but when you read that people were paying 1700$ for the 6900xt at one point it feels a bit better.

Is there a reason to watch the other 12:19 minutes worth. 0:30 seconds in now and I am kind of up in the air about this now. Is like a tease. I just finished watching the video and checked Newegg. Since these two products have the same “formula” branding, are they meant to be a pair? Looking at upgrading at the end of the year and I can’t tell if it’s better to pair this GPU with a Ryzen to get smart access memory enabled or if it makes a difference.

@Wendel - was there any coilwhine from the card? The reference AMD was horrible in terms of coilwhine so just interested in AIB models. I have a video uploaded with the reference cards noise.

Wendell; I have a question: Is it possible to move CPU processing onto a GPU? It must be possible right? To basically run the entire computer on the GPU?

GPUs are not good at general processing, they need things to be vectorized in order to function at peak performance, otherwise, the best that you can get out of them is in order instructions. Expect a lot of stalls.

@@tenoki But they do image color/material processing and other things of that nature too. So wouldn't that be a simple rewrite for logic to be placed in a psudo function of those? All matematics(logic and bit) can be represented in that right? So if anything you could have a microprocessor that just translates everything at the same clock speeds for the GPU. Most GPU's now have a built in SPU and USB Hub as well.

@@nathantron Now you are getting into Itanium teritory. But still brqnch prediction is not something that GPUs do. Think of them as Digital Signal Processors (DSPs) on steroids. The other required hardware to be a General Processing CPU is not there. Look up common computing architectures to get a better understanding of why a CPU is not good at highly specialized tasks and why cetain extensions like SSE and MMX were invented for the CPU.

Any day I can walk into microcenter and pick up a 6700xt, 6800, 6800xt, and a 6900xt but refuse to because I 6700xt starts at $900 with a 6900xt topping off at $2700. I just refuse to pay that stupid markup. I don't even need a 6900xt but if I could get one for near the original $1000, I would be a lot more interested.
