For what it's worth, my tool is consistent but reads about 15 pounds less than with a spring tester on the bench. Get a baseline and you're good to go. Thx!

Great video except it’s not IOEC it’s EOIC. When the exhaust begins to open set the intake when the intake begins to close set the exhaust. You get away with the way you’re doing it because your base circle is relatively large. If you use the method I described you will guarantee to always be on the base circle regardless of its size.

NOPE! You set the intake when the exhaust just begins to open and you set the exhaust when the Intake just begins to close. Think about what is happening in the cycle. I run a cam with almost .700 lift too. I am not sure what you are saying , but I am sure I am right. Do some more reesearch

There is a theory that if you let an engine sit for extended periods of time(years, in my case it’s been 11 years) that valve springs will loose there tension and will become week from staying in a compressed state for so long, is there any truth to that do you know? Ive ordered the lsm checker you mentioned to check the springs, but just curious if there is any truth to that theory. I’ve heard people say both they will weaken and that they will be fine and that the main reason spring will fail is if they are over heated, over sped, or over compressed. This is in a gen 2 520ci hemi NA(bored and stroked 426), high compression, full roller, .650 lift cam.

@@diezelking89 I have the same situation with a chevy ls6. The motor has been sitting for 1.5 years. I ordered the lsm checker but have not used it yet. Do you have any further information on how your experience went?

What if your valve spring pressure is to weak

There are correct valve spring pressures, both closed with the valve on the seat and open at full lift that are dictated by the cam profile. If the spring is too weak it allows the valve to 'bounce' off the seat or the lifter to loft off the high point of the cam. Both are bad things, that can lead to worse things...!

@@wolfwengler I have a 383 stroker with promaxx heads they were set up for a flat tappet cam 310 open pressure 115 closed but I went with a howards roller cam and they want 375 open pressure and 120 to 130 closed pressure guess I need to get some new springs uh ?

@@aaronburleson2454 Yes and get good quality springs. Much of the stuff on the market today is CHI-NA Junk. Isky Tool Room springs are good as are the PAC high end springs. You could use a beehive spring at those pressures and be way ahead.
