I remember being 7 when my sister recorded this on Friday Night Videos. My boomer Dad and we kids would watch this together and laugh. (Elvira was the cherry on top.)
I can't believe this wasn't added on the Born in East L.A. DVD. They should really consider re-releasing it & add the extended version, along with the music video.
I grew up w/ these guys, as well. My dad used to listen to them on 8 track. Yes, I said 8 track. I'm not proud to admit that I'm old enough to remember them so vividly, but facts are facts. I'm over 30 and under 40.
I was also born in Los Angeles, but it wasn't East L.A. Great video, I love it. He used the tune from Born in the USA, which Bruce Springsteen encouraged; and he spoofed 'I Love L.A.' by Randy Newman as well.
my computers been crashed for 24 hours and ive been jonesesing for this song. VIva East L.A and its favourite son senor cheech marin. the only man who makes nash bridges look tall.
Damn good! I was lost in south L.A. last year, Inglewood to be exact. Went into a liqour-store 8 o'clock saturday evening and got comments like "what the hell, white guys in the hood?!?" Did my shoppin' in no time!!! :o)
this song makes me laugh. i see this every other month on the movie channels & it seems as if sometimes they edit out 30 minutes of the film & sometimes it is 2 hours, then 90 minutes. either way, a good film
I know this is a REALLY old post and you might've already figured this out, but there's two versions of the film. There's the original version and the extended version. The extended version is the TV version. You can also find the extended version on Blu Ray.
I really like it at 3:30 when Cheech picks up Elvira. That is the best! You know, in our post-9/11 world, It does not matter WHAT race or origin you are. If you do not have identification, proof of home address, and other valid resident (or work permit) verification, US authorities of ANY type will detain you! Even in you were not doing anything bad AT ALL, if they have questionable feelings about you in ANY way, they WILL detain you, bring you in, or take you to jail. The authorities might later not give you any charges, but they WILL take you for anything they are "not sure about". Even I am a US Veteran, a US Citizen, have residence, valid ID, voters card, and NO criminal history. And FIVE TIMES, police have detained me for doing absolutely nothing!
Exactly! They fuck with everybody! Especially if you LOOK anything different than white...when it starts to get bad enough, I hope people will finally start understand the police force better and do something about it!
They want my papers, get a warrant...try to detain without probable cause and I will as is my right defend my self and their widows will get the bill for my medical expenses and any and all ammunition I use. :) Take your gestopo worship and shove it where the sun don't shine.I only have ID when driving...that's it. I don't have show 'papers' to nobody for no reason. I've lived in boston, central texas, Ok (buncha thick necked fools) Tacoma. And I hang out with the 'wrong' people, ride motorcycles and have loud dogs. Guns to, heck most morning I take one to work.
Tommy Chong is not the immigration officer. As an earlier poster said it looks like Jan Michael Vincent, but the voice could either be Cheech or Chong. I believe this came out before the movie. When I was a kid I remember my dad having one of Cheech & Chong's comedy tapes and this song was on there along with many other funny skits and songs.
It was Chong doing the Immigration Man's voice. Vincent was probably doing "Airwolf" at the time. C&C were starting to go thier separate ways, and although this video was part of a mockumentary plugging a C&C LP, essentially it is a Cheech Marin production.
