Chef Boy-Ar-Dee commercial - 1953

Unlike Betty Crocker, Chef Boy-Ar-Dee was NOT a fictional advertising icon; he was a real Italian chef. Hector Boiardi came to the U.S. as a teenager, became chef of a Cleveland hotel, and then opened a restaurant where his spaghetti recipe became famous. The rest is history. (It became "Boy-Ar-Dee" because that was easier than having to teach Italian pronunciation to 1950s housewives)
As Colonel Sanders did, Chef Boiardi (note the accent on the middle syllable) used to appear in his own commercials.

Fun fact, this was not a script. There was just a guy with a camera in his house and Chef Boyardee broke into his house and told him about Chef Boyardee.

The Chefboyardee pizza mixes are great and wonderful when you add more of your own toppings. These days, you can just buy a pizza crust in the market pre-made and not go through the process of using what comes in the box. The taste of the sauce is what excels here, as does the cheese. Add mozarella, more pepperoni, beef, etc. to make it your own great pizza! My mom made them for us as kids, and I still love 'em.

Yes, that IS Hector Boiardi, who was a legitimate Italian restaurant chef until he began marketing his boxed spaghetti (and sauce) in grocery stores and suprmarkets in the late '30s. American Home [Food] Products bought him out in the early '50s, and he continued to appear in their "Chef Boy-Ar-Dee" commercials until the '60s.

You just made an interesting point, HBKanedge818. Voices in early advertising were much more genuine, not as rehearsed, artificially enhanced, audibly perfected etc.. A friend of mine from high school worked at Jack In The Box during the summer, and from what I understand he was a model employee there; so much so that he was sent to California one weekend to do a commercial. I have never seen the commercial, but from he tells me his voice was run through a computer, further disguising it's tone

You're quite right about the Italian alphabet. However, Chef Hector Boiardi WAS a true Italian who came to America (Ellis Island, in fact) as a teenager in 1914. When he began selling his products nationally, he deliberately mispelled his name on the label as "Boy-Ar-Dee" to help housewives pronounce his name correctly.
