The most silly thing about the flexible lidded Tupperware was that they’d already solved that problem with their other product, the silicon bags. If you’ve a weird shaped food, put it in the sealable bag instead of a container.

@ThermiteKitty
@ThermiteKitty 11 месяцев назад
@@Trendyflute Agreed. They were still thinking of them like traditional but strong bags. They can go from storing raw food, to cooking inside of it, to serving at the table, to the fridge. They're more like flexible Pyrex containers than anything else, and 10 quid for a small Pyrex container that you'll be using forever is reasonable.

I kind if like the flexible lid idea but for different reasons. One of the biggest enemies of most tupperware containers is lid sag. When you put a hot food in the fridge or a cold food in the microwave the tupperware always ends up warping due to the temperature change, and often times the lid will get hard to close or just stop working all together. I also feel like it might be feasible to microwave these tupperware without having to crack them for steep to escape, because the flexible top can expand with the steam. If you let the tupperware cool a little and wait for the steam bulge to go down the water will return into the dish instead of escaping as steam and drying out the food. However, I wouldn’t want this tupperware to have clips. If you are going to microwave it you want the steam to be able to lift the lid for safety reasons, and I’m really not a fan of clipped tupperware in general, its too much messing around to use clips, and clipped lids are usually harder to clean and a lot harder to store. Plus this type of lid is something I’d only want to pay for if it was competitive to some of the cheaper alternatives. I find that most tupperware is just way too expensive and never really fixes the durability issues.

On top of what all the other south east asian commenters are mentioning, I reckon the half boiled egg device works in SEA is because the room temperature is the same year-round. With that in mind, the lines actually indicate how many eggs you are cooking. In some coffee shops, a device similar to this sits on all the tables. When you order the half boiled eggs, water gets poured into the device and you are just handed the number of eggs ordered.
@hannahk1306
@hannahk1306 11 месяцев назад
Out of interest, what temperature would that be? The 18°C in the studio seems pretty chilly (and most likely affected the eggs cooking). I'd say that typical room temperature in the UK is 20-25°C, but that's with central heating and can be much colder or much hotter (especially as air con is rare here).

@alexsis1778

@@hannahk1306 Here in the US i'd say its pretty typical for most houses to be between 22 and 25.5 C. You might get 18 in a really large building that's trying to pre-chill for a rush or 27ish during the summer at a place where the doors are being opened a lot, but those are going to be outliers. I had the same response as Ebbers to this gadget. I'd never want to cook an egg like this for myself. Even assuming this did work, I don't see why this gadget would be a thing anyway. If you're really going to do it why pay for something with only one function that you have to store somewhere when you could just use a bowl and a timer? Like OP said, ok maybe in a restaurant where they're trying to be fancy, but at home? Waste of space when a bowl would work just as well. That's ofc assuming you wasted enough eggs to figure out how to even get it to work in the first place since it clearly failed several times for them.

The silicone bags have been around for years, the only difference in this one is the bamboo slider instead of plastic. I had a pack of eight, ended up giving them to a friend because of how difficult it was to stack/store in the freezer.
@Fyreflier
@Fyreflier 11 месяцев назад
And the exertion Ebbers had to go through just to slide the bamboo over the silicone, makes me think they're not so great. The especially for people with grip/dexterity issues like arthritis. You can get ziploc bags with an actual zipper that are virtually effortless to close. We wash and reuse the standard 'single use' ones a few times before the plastic eventually gives up. But yeah your point about the stacking is a problem too. If I want to freeze something in a bag, it's because I can lay it flat and stack like ten of them in a freezer drawer. I'd get two of those in there, tops.

The Malaysian way of eating the half-boiled egg is a little unique compared to other parts of the world. We Malaysians love the mixture of the slightly solid white that we scrape out (like scooping mango from the skin), with the creaminess from the yolk, seasoned with soy sauce and white pepper. I would normally have a toast (kaya for the brave people) on the side to dip into this combination. And the best way to have it is with a Teh Tarik at 32 Celsius

The shown half-boiled egg results are pretty normal over here in SEA kopitiams (coffee shops that serves typical Asian fare), it is almost expected to use a tea-spoon which accompanies the usual cup of black coffee to scoop out the whites. 14:00 what is so weird about this though is that after showing a method to "poach in the shell" I've been doing poached eggs by putting them into a ceramic bowl, covering with boiling water, then placing a ceramic plate over them. This does produce a noticeably different result than a "soft boiled egg" where the white is more set and the yolk runny, the poached in the shell egg you just crack and the white is still soft and floppy, how a poached egg is. However it did take some "eggsperimentation" in order to get the timings right, and I do have to use fridge kept eggs (in order to ensure the same temperature to start at, as room temperature varies year round, and the start temperature affects the cook time required) as well as the exact same type of ceramic bowl because slightly larger or smaller affects how much water I can get in and how much temperature travels into the egg presumably, and of course the same size eggs. But now I can finally get perfectly poached eggs, every time, without any fannying around with vinegar and swirling water or poaching bags or anything ridiculous. Just start the lunch, assemble it all, and then time it so the egg can be cracked on nice and warm and enjoyed immediately! 🥰

I have this set and they're great at home but they're heavy. I love silicone bags when camping. They take up less space when empty, weigh less and are easier to "shove" into a cooler or rv fridge. You can remove the air from it to make it take less room if it's not full (vs a container which takes up the same amount of space if it's 10% full or 100% full

For anyone keen to make those half-boiled eggs, don't worry about the whites overcooking and sticking to the shells! This is simple working class food, no one expects 100% perfect texture. We all just make it using boiling water into a container/bowl and sit for a few mins, scraping the shells is part of the process. Granted I've seen the chain eateries use sous vide immersion circulators... But their business relies on them nailing that exactly, and they're also doing high volume production every day, it makes sense for them.

Greetings from Oz... (Australia for those not up with the vernacular) Just found your channel and am LOVING the content! Can I say, not all plasticware is Tupperware (which is a copyrighted brand)... as a 60 something, quickly approaching a 70 something, I recall the extortionate prices we paid for plasticware back in the 60s and 70s because the ONLY purveyor was Tupperware! I still have some of the products of theirs I bought at the ubiquitous party-plan gatherings, which is a testament to their quality. BUT I am seriously stoked that the range and quality of current day plastic storage containers has improved and increased exponentially - and the current offerings are at a fraction of the price! Don't give Tupperware the credit for ALL current plasticware on offer! Decor, Sistema, Lock & Lock, OXO just to name a few are wonderful storage solutions and deserve to get credit for their products as well as saving households hundreds of dollars! And now we have silicon... which is a new and exciting food storage, heating, serving concept - thus the reason for my post.

i mean, i get that it's a bit of a joke n such but i honestly fail to see how it's the proper way, it's not exactly a traditional cooking equipment.. how old can a rice cooker be? not much older than ww2 i'd say if even close to that old. and to be frank, i find that doing it the regular way we usually do it in western countries works perfectly if you actually know what you're doing or atleast dont run away from the kitchen (then there's also the whole indian part of the arguement aswell, think it was northern indians but i might be wrong there i remember it being somewhere in that region tho, where they cook rice like we would pasta roiling boil then drain off and it works for them so) a rice cooker does nothing cooking-wise that a pot with a lid cant do, it at most turns itself off so it doesnt burn, that's the one thing it does that you couldnt get from a regular ol pot with a lid

Then, when it's time for eating, pick your favourite four dishes (if you're four people) and put one in each bag, boil them together, and the food comes out perfectly. It's really good. The silicone bags seem excellent for camping, if you could pre-pack servings of dry ingredients, add water, then pop them in a pot to boil and eat straight from them, especially with easy cleanup and the option of using them as dry storage for other things as well. The upfront cost is prohibitive but if you were a serious backpacker, and they would stand up to the abuse, it might be a worthwhile investment.
