Yes and no. They were always gonna have to go thru a rebuild as they were losing so many experienced players. Remember that the lack of a striker started under Abramovich. Just not this bad...but the club was built on blood money so may be karma having the last say.

Honestly an accurate assessment, £500million+ not worth, no, worth in ‘additions this year’ alone to combine with their squad from last year and this is all they seem to be able to muster Genuinely the most tragic run I’ve seen ever with a team with that much talent
But the last relegation came before the Premier League was established, to be exactly in 1988, when they lost on tiebreaker playoffs. In 1979, they even got relegated by finishing dead last in First Division!
Mental how people are still saying it's not the manager when poch said Chelsea long term goal over the next 3 years is one top 4 finish. This isn't the type of managers abramovic would employ. Isn't it bizarre everton have scored 23 goals in the league all, and Chelsea has 29 goals for the season. That puts it into perspective. eveton are joint worst with Southampton for goals scored. Even Leeds and Leicester have scored more than Chelsea, and their issue is conceding conceding goals. Bohly has 500 million, and their squad is bloated. 4 keeper 10 defenders, 15 midfielders, and 4 forwards only aubamuyang and broja are out and out strikers.
Can we agree now that ownership means a lot to a teams success?. One thing is to have money, it’s another thing to spend it wisely. Abramovich had money but he put a solid structure in place and spent lots of money wisely. Boehly has come in and spent lots of cash stupidly. I can’t see American owners being successful in football because they refuse to learn the fundamentals of football. They all want to come in all arrogant and try and do what basketball/American football do. They refuse to respect the game of football and that’s ultimately why they fail.
