Robert Alexander I as well have been watching Darren’s videos for years and his knowledge has helped me tremendously with my detailing business. I had a lot of respect for DPC, but I think he lost a lot of creditably and respect with his Meguiar’s stunt bashing their product and not to mention all he’s doing now is pushing his product line on people. Darren is in it for the right reasons and truly wants to teach unlike others.

Great video Darren. I saw this product a few years ago having a black car I considered getting this but didn't cause I thought it was a glaze that hides scratches and then washes away and revealing the scratches again. So with your video proving different I would now seriously consider this product. Soooooo much confusion marketing hype etc in this market head spinning stuff. Thanks can't wait for more videos.

Agree. Have some, used it early on in the day when it was released but it's really just meh of a product. In terms of an AIO that does a better job by far in terms of corrections and also applying semi-permanent fillers that truly make a difference in appearance followed by a base-layer of sealant, CarPro's Essence destroys Blacklight.

I purchased Blacklight from the Auto Detail Store in Gardena, Ca. The guys there are awesome and really know their products. They reccomended washing, clay baring and polishing before applying Blacklight and a wax or sealant. I had a few deep scratches I couldn't remove but the swirls were gone. After applying Blacklight I had to search really hard to find the scratches because of the glaze in Blacklight. I applied two coats of Griots Best of Show Wax and was really pleased with the results.

Although it had major strong exciting words for the product which make me want to buy it, but absolute foreign to me as a newbie

Aw man no peeling off the masking tape? But, great video; I ended up watching this video series for the very reasons you mentioned. I'm inexperienced, have a black car, and wasn't actually sure what this product was. They advertise it now as a glaze, not sure if they did in April 2019 when you made the video, but it seems like it can be used as a light polish as well?

Go to the website it says exactly what it is. Glaze!! Use it correctly and it really does work great. I used it on my old Camaro with lambo Orange tri stage and it’s amazing. Use it correctly let it sit for 15-20 minutes then wipe off. Yes the time wait makes a dramatic difference. Then a total of 30 minutes before wax 👌🏻

@TheTuffOnes
@TheTuffOnes 4 года назад
This video has me confused as you have totally switched gears from Part I & II. Plus, I don't think Black Light is MEANT to be used as a polishing/cutting agent even though it has DE in it (WHY it has DE I cannot figure). I like Black Light with Collinite 845 on top but frankly, I have become disillusioned with their line as there's just TOO much. They don't respond to email either OR have much of anything in stock on their website.
@jasonweiss7757
@jasonweiss7757 4 года назад
@@TheTuffOnes I don't bother with Chemical Guys. They have WAY too many redundant products. When I look at a product I want to be able to tell exactly what it is and what it does. I don't need 5 paragraphs of written garbage on a label that rambles on about nothing while not fully explaining anything.
@TheTuffOnes
@TheTuffOnes 4 года назад
@@jasonweiss7757 I got them to respond to me but I think they got several people involved and they gave me three COMPLETELY different answers. The issue with my paint came up after using Black Light and was made FAR worse by their first recommendation to correct the issues that showed up after Black Light. To be honest, I'm not so sure the Black Light caused the initial damage. It may have been hidden by the dealer (it's a brand new car). I sent them photos of my car and three different answers came back for three MORE products and their polisher. Cost was getting crazy and risk of seriously destroying paint on brand new car didn't have odds stacked in my favor SO I took the products I'd used for reference, their recommendations, and my new car to a body shop where they kinda rolled their eyes over the contradictory responses and did a "pity buff" for me and got all the damage out. They told me not to use such agents anymore as anything that says "polish' can cause issues in "soft" black paint. I guess my car has "soft" paint. I'm sure CGs has fine products. Just WAY too many of them. And that's ok EXCEPT that it's very difficult to figure out what each product does from the descriptions. I didn't figure out that Black Light actually could cut until I found out it contains DE or Diatomaceous Earth! That's a cutting agent! It's listed nowhere on the bottle and made scratches all over the car! After the Black Light issue, and I'm STILL not POSITIVE it was that product that caused the scratches (but given that it has DE in it, body shop said it's likely) CGs tell me to buy another of their products, Chemical Gus All in One, that made the first scratches even worse! Yikes! I mean they were beyond ugly! From there they told me to use VSS and it just kept getting more dramatic as the days ticked on 😡 Well, I'm going to just take my car twice per year to the shop that fixed the issues, once before Winter, once before Summer and just wash in between with products that have ingredients listed and I never needed DE on a brand new car to start with. Can't believe they have that in Black Light and one has to actually DIG that fact up. I probably have ruined the clearcoat with it. 😊

There's a whole history behind Blacklight that I learned when like Darren, I was trying to figure out exactly what it is. You can find it if you search around but as I recall it was developed as a 1 step in the far east (Malaysia irrc) to meet their needs and weather conditions and eventually made its way here. I think part of CGs problem is, they didn't develop it and so had nobody who really knew the product well when they came up with their description and directions. I don't know why they haven't gone back and relaunched it now that they understand it better.

I watched Junkman2000 use a small amount of polish and the Adams label was all about wasting product. The softer pads do not maximize the use of product and labeling is all about selling more crap than you actually need. I prefer a light cutting pad or heavy polishing pad over the softer types and can get decent results. Even doing headlights, the firm pad makes quick work and finishes well depending upon the product.

So basically you use this as an all in one, polish and protectant? They claim 6 months of protection from videos I’ve seen. I’ve used it a few times just by hand like a wax. I think they market it as a glaze/sealant. It will stain trim pretty bad, so you have to be careful but I still like it. Cool to know that you can correct with it! Thanks!

i am new to detailing. should i apply the chemical guys butter wet wax over this?
@chrisgl934
@chrisgl934 3 года назад
Yes, ideally you want to top it with a wax. BWW is so easy to use and produces a nice finish, but the durability/longevity is extremely weak/shortlived. You can top it with a Carnauba wax that has some polymers mixed in, like Meguiars GC Carnauba Plus (which lasts a little longer). Sometimes I'll use Meguiars NXT Tech Wax 2.0 over it instead, which is more of a sealant, and follow it up with BWW 1-7 days later. I'll use BWW as a maintenance wax for washes after a full detailing; especially since it doesn't need the surface 100% dry to apply. I've heard many people only topping the Blacklight with CG's V07 hybrid spray sealant/detailer. CG sold/sells BL/V07 as a combo; which probably inspired that trend. Personally, I think one should always top with a wax but one can get away with just the V06 topper. It's not the most durable, but it seems that if you apply V07 on a weekly basis and/or as a cleanup after a day in the rain or dust/pollen, one can build a bit of a protective shell. As it builds up, you should notice more and more deflection of dust/pollen accumulation, it becoming harder for things like bugs to stick to the paint, better beading/sheeting, easier washes, and quicker drying times. V07 leaves a great shine and can be applied to plastic trim, glass, rubber, and vinyl graphics too.
@chrisgl934
@chrisgl934 3 года назад
Not to confuse things but I applied Blacklight yesterday. I must say that it really made the metallic flakes dance in the light in a depth I don't think I've seen before. An hour later I topped it with the Meguiars GC Carnauba Plus I mentioned...it almost seems to have toned down the BL effects. I understand why people just top with the V07. If I were doing a car show or showing off, I'd probably lean to just BL and V07. But for longer lasting shine/protection, I'd do BL with a wax, followed by a V07 wipedown the next morning. Even better for myself and some others, mix a bottle of 50% V07 and 50% Sonax Brilliant Shine Detailer. Sonax is really good but prone to streaking; V07 mixed in eliminates the streaking and you get a mix of both products' strengths on the finished vehicle.

Chemical Guys initial products weren’t all that great I think black light polish was one of their earlier polishes I could be wrong , but I’ve used it .I found it was more marketing then and I think some of the guys at CG kinda thought ppl will eventually learn how to use it . I’ve seen so many companies take that approach instead of being more descriptive in what the polish can and won’t do. Our industry for supplies like this is full of snake oil products . CG products are better now but they use cleaver videos to really push their products.

It's a glaze. The product was used poorly in this video and idk how this guy has a good youtube base. If he was a true detailer the process to take out the moderate scratches you would go with a polish like CG v36 and use a finisher like CG v38. Then to enhance the cars glossy look you'd take on a glaze such as the blacklight with a finishing pad not a cutting pad.
