In this video I test 3 different wheel and tire cleaners against each other. Two are by Chemical Guys and one by Turtle Wax. While all three did well with cleaning there were very distinct differences that lead me to choose one winner!! What do you think?

I noticed the same thing you did with the Diablo cleaner and threw it into a Home Depot 2$ spray bottle for misting action. Covered larger area for me. I would recommend the bigger concentrate bottle though.

All I use is turtle wax!! 🐢 Love there ceramic stuff, really an incredible company! Not always about price, people always think that turtle wax is a cheap company but there one of the oldest car cleaning companies out there and make a quality product!!!!

I've been a die hard Diablo fan, keeps my white wheels nice and shiny but have to agree with the spray pattern and run off. Definitely looking forward to trying the sticky citrus.

I’ve used the Diablo one and it’s really good, I had the concentrate so mixed it up myself and used an old sprayer and it was much better than that what you had, it really stuck to the rims and did a great job, I used the gel concentrate.

I haven’t tried very many but the most economical I’ve found is cheap foaming oven / grill cleaner from the dollar store and one of those cone shaped brush drill attachments

So the only thing that I've learned about the sticky citrus is that it is more abrasive than the Diablo. So your Diablo is your standard one that you would use on a day to day and citrus is one that, if used often, would take off any wax or ceramic layer on the tires.

The Diablo in the concentrated gel form, diluted in a foaming sprayer is actually more economical than the sticky citrus. They’re both great products though! I’ve yet to find a chemical guys product that I don’t like. (And I have tried A LOT of them)😊 Thank you for the comparison!

I’m pretty sure one of the hot rims cleaner is a wheel acid. Spray on spray off. Plus it will get everything on the back of the wheel.

I use Spray Nine to clean the tire and wheel and then once they are clean use a dressing on both , this last for about two weeks .

I like the Turtle Wax Wheel and Tire cleaner. I put it in a Zep bottle from WalMart and instead of the foaming bottle for better coverage. At $3.50 a bottle you can’t beat it lol.

as someone in the industry, I will tell you the Turtle Wax is out of this world. I turned into a believer when I sprayed it on a "never cleaned off brake dust" commuter, left it for a minute and literally wiped it clean with a microfiber. unreal!

I think the leftover residue (using the Turtle Wax cleaner) is coming off the tires. It must be some sort of acid based cleaner like a degreaser. They tend to cause streaks and residue like that.

degreasers have a ph level usually 9-12 and acidic can be anything under 7ph

I don’t understand how the Diablo wheel cleaner didn’t foam and just streamed out. I bought the concentrate bottle and mixed it by the description, and it foamed pretty well Honestly, don’t based the wheel cleaner off of it not coming out of the bottle as a "spray" instead of "stream", I have come into contact with some bad bottles from the, and like only 2 bottles, out of the 20+ bottles I bought. If you really wanted a mist and the bottle wasn’t doing it should have swapped to another bottle and I can almost bet that it would have worked properly. See with the Sticky Orange bottle that it sprayed properly, and both are from the same company. There’s your first hand example

I experienced the same thing with the Diablo. If it wasn't for the poor sprayer it would probably be a great wheel cleaner. Chemical Guys really need to step up and improve that sprayer. Until they do I won't buy it again because of the waste of chemical.

Being a detailer the brown is Uv inhibitors from the tire. It’s good to clean that as well. Also did your finger nail catch those spots it looked like could been iron contamination. Clay bar or acid wheel cleaner cleans those

With the Diablo wheel cleaner I spray on either tyre foam or any car wash product that is soapy and then spray so it sticks to the soap and lasts longer on the wheel

Get Super Clean or Purple power concentrates and a spray bottle. Very effective, you can adjust the ratios of solvent and water, and use for many other automotive and household uses. Buying a cleaner specifically for wheels is much more expensive and often less effective.

I live and clean in Mexico, so climate is hot most of the time, the sun rises higher, and i have noted that products dry faster, chemical guys products are perfect because they usually don't leave water streaks. Although I've seen people hate Diablo and tag it as "water with food colourant", I think it's perfect because it is not a HARSH chemical, easier on my skin when it splashes or something, and does a great job for it's ph.

I defeated the wheel scrubbing. Use either Purple Power or Super Clean mixed liked you'd use for engine compartment.. Use a real wheel brush (Jimmy's brush appeared to be a body brush, a little too soft and nuts to that short handle). The handle will be longer and a slight angle, the nylon bristles will be stiffer but WILL NOT scratch your rims. The small brush shouldn't be needed if you clean wheels once a month. After your wheels are clean (I can do all four on my truck in less time than Jimmy did one). Use Westley tire bleach or equivalent to clean you tires (follow instructions on bottle closely). After washing the vehicle, use the left over soap to give one more light wash/rinse to the wheels to remove any leftover grime/cleaner. rinse and let dry. Here's the real secret: After tire/wheel is completely clean and dry, spray Westley's silicone tire shine spray lightly but full coverage on the wheel, then thicker on the tire.. Yes the dust that is produced by braking will stick to the wheel but it does anyway by "Ion" charge. The next time, the silicone will allow you to use your car wash soap (after you are done on body), on your wheels. Use a real wheel brush and regular body soap to clean the wheel beautifully in seconds with the regular wheel brush only. Re-apply silicone spray when wheel is completely dry. This works. Used this method for 3 decades on aluminum and chrome wheels.

As a life long car guy whose NEVER had anyone even change the oil in one of my vehicles but myself, I feel obligated to share what I've learned so people don't have to keep re-inventing the wheel. Many will anyway but all you can do is try. Cheers Jimmy. You do good work and set a good example. A few departures from accuracy on occasion but that's how everyone learns. Much respect for you doing this channel as a relatively novice mechanic. Men should be doing this stuff to their vehicles or at least know how. I sold my house recently and live in an apartment now. Can't even wash my own truck if I wanted to (no hose bib anywhere) and it drives me nuts. Regards.

Diablo is an all around amazing product. That spray version is part of a weekend warrior kit. You wanna get the gel in a bottle and buy one of their duck foam sprayers and dilute it in the bottle and it foams and cleans very well. As well as sticky citrus

purple power from autozone is great i would have got the diablo gel instead of using the diablo in the spray bottle I think they have decon which is a chemical you spray on your rims and let dwell before using the diablo rim cleaner

They changed the sprayer on the Diablo cleaner. I used several times, bought several times and the last time I got it I noticed that the sprayer was different. After you use all the sticky Citrus keep the sprayer and put it on the Diablo bottle.

Update: I bough another bottle of Diablo from Walmart and it looks Chemical Guys has gone back to the old sprayer. So it should have a better spray pattern.

I had a bad experience with Diablo, after letting it dwell for about a minute on wet, clear coated aluminum wheels it damaged the finish and made it look hazy and damaged. Clear coat is now damaged and needs to be stripped and re-painted. My personal favorite is the Sonax full effect wheel cleaner. Goes on neon yellow.

Hey friend i've used it on painted rims as well. I had no issues with mine. I'd say maybe switch up the type of clear coat your running and overall be careful with citrus cleaners. Sry bout ur rims :/

Just buy some super clean or purple power. Dilute 4:1 and spray on the wheels. Most of that stuff will just fall right off. Way cheaper than these $10 16 oz sprays too

Eagle one makes an affordable product & ot works fantastic. Also diluted super clean is the best bang for your buck if you buy the gallon at Walmart or Autozone.

Or you could go to the self serve car wash and use the high pressure hose to clean the wheels while you wash the rest of your ride. I spray the wheels with generic Windex before beginning the car wash. After cleaning the rest of the car I pressure blast the wheels. No hand cleaning. It works. If you let the wheels get too dirty between washes that's on you.

The Diablo usage rate is really high. It’s very easy to go through an entire bottle in two washes. I think a different sprayer might help.

I detail cars and I used the sticky citrus on my own car and then it rained and my drive way flood with muddy water and to my suprise every time I went through that nasty water my rims stayed clean. Like I just washed them cleaned. So naturally I tested it again and after 6 tries , it stayed clean

I find that stuff to kind of be a rip off honestly. What’s you just did with that. Hell you could’ve mixed up some dish soap and water sprayed it on and scrubbed the break dust off. I like a good wheel acid. Spray it let it sit rinse. I would not recommend it for cheap plated rims though.

I love using the Diablo wheel cleaner for my truck wheels but I feel like that nozzle was defective. I believe they all should spray in a fan direction. I love using the Diablo gel. You can dilute it to your own liking in some water with a spray bottle. I bought a hand pump foam sprayer off Amazon filled it with water and some diablo gel pump it up 10 times and it foams like crazy to really stick to the wheels

Citrus is a good cleaner but more expensive than Super Clean or Purple Power concentrates. if you work in you garage and/or vehicles it is a must to have around. Much cheaper and multi use. citrus best used on interior or in house where odor/smell is a concern, though SC and PP both are non toxic and not particularly offensive odor.

I’m telling you, check into the mad acid cleaner! It works wonders on the clear coated Chevy rims. Same with Honda rims! I’m waiting on my second bottle to come in the mail, it can’t get here fast enough! It removes the rusted up brake dust on the barrels of your wheels but still leaves plenty of shine without eating up the clear coat. It’s JUST caustic enough to eat up surface rust but balanced enough to not eat through the finish (as long as you don’t let it dry) and it works great on chrome bumpers and exhaust tips too. Pretty much anything you need. It also will remove water spots on your glass. But instead of spraying it directly on the glass, you spray it on a rag and wipe it on, then wipe it off with a damp rag, then dry it with a clean cloth. It’s multi purpose and worth every penny, and they’re always running a 20% discount, sometimes 30%.

You should also try the wheel cleaners that turn brake dust purple. Like Sonax Wheel Cleaner, Iron X, and Mguiars Ultimate wheel cleaner

I don’t think comparing two professional line products against a consumer line product is fair, at all. IMO, this was just a marketing strategy to promote Chemical Guys.
