The production values were excellent: costumes and sets were fabulous, but also elements like lighting were all top quality. Cher was such a great entertainer. She also had a natural look in those days and her beauty was rather ethnic and natural, long before all the over the top cosmetic procedures. I used to watch her tv specials as a kid and just was always thoroughly mesmerised because she wasn’t classically beautiful but she had “something.” I think being rake thin and tall, meant she could wear anything and she looked fabulous. Then there were the outrageous wigs. But if you watch closely you’ll see she had a real flair for comedy and for impromptu one-liners. That’s something that not all female entertainers could do. She could do throw away Mae West-like punchlines and had a strong female persona to carry it off.
