The sketch is so good because - obviously Rowan Atkinson is brilliant - Elton John plays his part so very well. Some of the looks and stares he gives Atkinson, and his looks aside to the audience are quite superb.
There is that sketch somewhere in youtube where Rowan as school teacher doing roll call with just rude words as student names. Search for 'rowan atkinson school teacher'
@Christopher Kargbo I don't know what comedians you guys watch from "today". This feels like the kind of thing where a boomer says that they made "real" music back in their day, and everything that comes after it is garbage. Completely disregarding tens of thousands of brilliant albums and good music. There are plenty of amazing comedians of "today". Bill Burr, Dave Chappelle, Jim Jefferies, Dave Attell, Arie Spears, Josh Blue, Tom Segura, Chris Distefano, Patrice O'neal, Louis CK, there's no shortage at all of current funny comedians.
One musical stage performer and one comedian stage performer once teamed up to act out one of the greatest theatrical performences we ever witnessed. Both are worldwide treasures. Both somehow touch you with whatever they do. This is the greatness mankind is able to!
Hats off to Elton to have controlled his laughter. I'm sure they would have rehearsed this 1000 times just so he could not burst out laughing and yet Rowan Atkinson's act was still making him bite his lips to stop laughing.
Probably read the script many times and played the scenarios so many times that he doesn’t find it funny. Unless it’s a sketch made on the spot, he’s very, very good.
This interview was in 1980. Mr Bean, the original series, didn't grace our UK TV screens until 1990. In Britain, Atkinson is better known for the brilliant Blackadder series that began in 1983.
One thing that strikes me is that Rowan stood up to greet elton. It's a small thing, but i think it shows a great deal of respect. You don't really see that on TV now.
It amazes me how Rowan Atkinson can take one word any word and make it funny as hell... I've seen this before but I forgot just how funny and hilarious it really is
I've never seen anything so unbelievably funny like this fantastic interview 😅😁😅 ...!!! Only a true GENIUS like Rowan Atkinson could imagine it ... and Elton John was incredibly GREAT, too 😁😁😅 ...
@@applesugar2051 I'm mexican and actually, it is more clean and interesting. It also depends on your point of view. But it isn't not that boring bro. What a mad lad (jk)
It's crazy that an actor with such a perfect diction and such a great comedic timing created a character who barely speaks at all. Rowan Atkinson, we love you!
Rowan is ALWAYS the forgotten gem of comedy. EVERYONE knows him, yet everyone forgets to mention his name. Not just his writing skills, but his untouchable skills of being able to tell a story using ONLY body language. So impressive.
@Ronald McDonald He is only well known for his Mr Bean peformance. The ones who known him for his comedic vocubulary genius are the minority (tho that dosent mean that there are only a few of them)
Elvis Leong likes sour cream and onion chips ok I checked and I’m wrong, but he came out as gay a mere 2 years (1988) before this video, still considered ages ago !
It was set-up like a comedy roast... He knew what he was going in for and had to play the part of getting annoyed but you could see he really wanted to laugh.
Just imagine that THIS GUY is able to make people laugh for 5 minutes straight without any stupidity and with grace. Everything is just fun, nothing is taken seriously, no roasting, no being an asshole. Just simple comedy... I wish we knew this in our age... Atkinson Rowan (I'm sorry, I couldn't resist) is truly a legend
For those who don’t get it, it’s a satire of how interviewer and journalist only ask the artist about anything other than their music or their art and when they switch topics it’s to instigate drama.
These videos are very welcome for me. Something tolaugh at at this incredibly negative time in our lives really needed to laugh- Thanks very much Rowan👏👏
I've seen this so many times, but I've only realised that Rowan is "shot" and falls before Elton says "bang," in keeping with the reverse nature of the topic.
That gun was supposed to create a sound. But it malfunctioned hence Rowan was confused for a moment and yet dropped down as in the script. Elton realised and shouted bang to cover up the delay.
