to those who are curious, “cherry” is army slang for a green soldier newly arrived in a combat zone, it also refers to the protagonist, a very young man completely out of his depth in every situation in his life. (I googled it so you don’t have to *winks*)
If you served, thank you for your service. If you didn't serve, that makes no difference. Thank you for your survival. The world is better off WITH you than WITHOUT you.
@@cheztbc Big isn't always art. Actually most of the time it isn't. I think the ones who play in small movies, indie movies the ones who are in for the art are better then the ones who are typecast and make a lot of money. Some have achieved to combine it (like Leo DiCaprio) but I really respect Tom for trying out new roles and not relying on the comfort of getting money with typecasting. He really is in it for the right reasons. Btw this isn't like criticism for your comment just a thought I had!
@@mastersancity1791 Yeah ofc, that's a fact. I'm just saying it's refreshing. I like that they took this narrative, given their opportunities to make a "badass war movie".
@@noeliairustavalverde9052 i mean its a different story and not a lot of movies glorify war, in fact, a lot shows the horrific scenes and death of close comrades along the way in most war films.
@@tvalokibatman6563 you cant save time in a bottle. Today you’re 20 tmrrow you’ll wake up and be 85 yrs old. When that day comes you’ll feel like someone pushed the fast forward button and life is closing in on you before every thing fades to darkness
As the ex wife and also the mother of combat vets, this hit hard. I’ve spent the last 20 years watching the wars tear my family to pieces. We need movies that show unvarnished looks at life for the people who serve and their families. This shit ain’t easy. Tom Holland has more than earned my respect with this one.
I was actually really drawn to this by how realisticly it showed some of the training in bootcamp and entrance processing stuff. It sounds goofy but it's only stuff you would know or remember if you've been through it. Little details down to the black corregated hoses attached to a vaccum that sucks the hair up as they shave your head at bootcamp or how you stand in a long line and walk through and get vaccines stuck in your arms on both sides like youre cattle. IDK, that dedication to what it's really like and how mundane and inhuman so much of it really is always draws me to stufff that depicts the military. Hope your family is doing well.
Ikr!! I just watched the devil all the time..I was looking forward to see more of his recent movies, then I got cherry as recommended... trailer is legit.. gonna watch this tomorrow.
Watching Ciara go from a lowkey cool sister role in BTR a decade ago to a lead actress role alongside Tom Holland is just amazing & blissful. BTR must be hella proud.
I agree. I loved her acting in Red Band Society, but in my opinion the show romanticized eating disorders too much. I'm glad she has something good to show people how great at acting she is.
OMG I couldn't remember where I've seen this big eyed brunette actress before... It's been so long since I've seen her in BTR & Red Band Society.. OMG she's grown up so much (I know it's been 8 years but still)
@@Flodro250 I’m also holding out hope for it, but I’m afraid it might not happen. Honestly I don’t even need a whole season, maybe just some sort of two hour special for resolution
“After his identity is revealed to the world, Peter ditches the Spider-Man persona, and turns to a life of crime”, is the message I’m getting from this film.
You got more than me then, because I literally have no idea what this movie is about from watching this trailer, apart from, “Actor makes vague statements.”
@@joeblack2534 Billy Elliot wasn't a gay ballet movie, it was just a ballet movie with a kid coming out, and Tom Holland wasn't even in it. I think you're referring to the adapted musical he was in, cause Tom really began his rise to stardom after that.
@@clevergirl4457 'Billy Elliot wasn't a gay ballet movie, it was just a ballet movie with a kid coming out' bruh you legit just said the same thing twice lol
This movie is: *40% **_Drugs_* *30% **_Money_* *20% **_PTSD/War_* *10% **_Love Story_* So if you're here for a love story you'll be disappointed. _It's a good movie(imo) , don't trust the youtubers reviews, watch it for yourself._
Well I trust the RU-vid reviews cuz this movie was a mess, it doesn't even know what's trying to be. What's the focus and message of this movie??? The tone can be a bit inconsistent too
I have heard his British accent when he was in the Impossible. So when it was announced that he will be Spider-Man and spoke in an American accent... that was weird lol but now it’s not so weird since has been acting in an American accent for so long
He has White skin which automatically takes him out of the running for an Oscar these days his best chance is to become a gay transgender and identify as Black.
I love how they made this trailer, just enough to make you interested without spoiling anything, and how they use Yungblud, one of the smaller major artists, just sells it
Can confirm that this was very very good. This trailer does a great job of showing every snippet of a different part of the movie but gives pretty much nothing away. I was very surprised with the story. I cried a couple of times. Tom Holland is one hell of an actor.
No this movie was about heroin addiction the trailer says nothing about that that is one of the main reasons why I loved the movie bc I am an addict myself
As a vet this film was amazing, I came from a good background, enlisted, and went through a lot. I came back as what I felt was a worse more jaded individual. It really took a toll on me.
my husband did 2 tours in iraq as a result he has ptsd & tbi, which interferes with his day to day life. as his wife/caregiver i see how bad his mental health, especially since he developed a drug addiction to try to treat the voices in his head and all the flashbacks he gets. and ofc the drugs made it worse long term. sending u good vibes, hang in there.
The movie already looks incredible just from the trailer. Tom is such an incredible actor, I am glad that he has the opportunity to show his range through a different role other than Peter Parker/Spider-Man for which people usually recognise him. I really hope he’ll get the recognition he deserves for this one ! Edit : I know that Tom has played in many other movies. I was just referring to how much I am glad that he is not getting stuck with the Peter Parker image. 😊
@@jessicanielsen6134 yes I know that, but some people only know him for his role in Spider-Man. That’s why I’m glad that he can show his versatility in different big roles such as this one 😊
Incredible??? Give it a rest. It's two concepts that have been done countless times before mashed together. The only difference is that there is a small twist. Looks pretty average
I prefer Tom holland playing in dark movies more than marvel and all that, I think it really brings out his talent as an actor. Not many actors can pull off an eerie, edgy, dark type movie,. Lovin his career choices!
I love both. He is really talented and yeah we see it more in darker movies. This emotional scenes are always amazing, i think he will start getting awards soon
This movie... is so beautiful. 10 active, 4 tours... injured, multiple procedures, pumped full of purdue pharma... to the needle... brought back, wonderful brothers and sisters that did not. Very emotional depiction. Thankyou
Just watched it. Insane ride from start to finish. *Must watch.* Crazy how some pretty random phrase in college "I'm moving to Montreal to study" could fuck up so many lives.
No shit!!! If she never would have broke his heart he wouldn't have enlisted..Im sure she carried that guilt w her as well and why she was inclined to be an addict w him..Thru thick and thin she stuck w him and was there when he was released from prison!!! I think the movie was beautiful and brilliant!!!! Oscar worthy no doubt!!!
@@dariusparks3954 bruh that last scene where he sees her n slowly smiles n then busts out laughing/crying hit me so fucking hard. dis movie is phenomenal
Everything is in there..; Great acting, great story, artful camera work.. Even the Music score is Magistral.. Tom Holland, Ciara Bravo are Immense.. Don't miss it..!!!!
If it’s anything like the nico walker autobiography it’s based on, then it will be a military medic in Afghanistan who becomes a heroin addict. He robs banks to support his girlfriend and his own addiction.
One of the best movies I've watched for a while. Tom Holland and all the actresses/actors 👌 No preconceived ideas. It makes you feel something, covers a lot of intense themes. Cinematography is visably thought about and for anyone that cares about film it's noticed and beautiful.
@@wasi6798 For clarity this is not meant to be funny, just to admire and compliment his character range. This film looks to define him as a multi-level actor which is simply incredible cheers
As an aside, if people are not familiar with the original version of "Time in a bottle" from Jim Croce, do yourself a favour and go back and listen to it. Beautiful song, such deep emotion...one of a few such he wrote.
The scene where the banker told him "that supposed to make you a good guy now",and he just stood there rethinking everything, then said "did you fuxking fight for this country"! His acting was so on point
Tom Holland has been able to prove he’s a great dramatic actor with his phenomenal performance in “Devil All The Time” so I’m excited to see how this turns out. Makes me really happy to see Tom getting the attention he deserves
I’ve never understood the critics of this movie, when I first saw it, the emotions we’re running high. I’ve seen reviews about the weird camera angles or filming techniques but these people need to understand that we as the viewer are being put inside Cherry’s head. When the camera goes out of focus besides him and Emily it’s like us seeing in a third person perspective what he is seeing in his own eyes, we see Emily clear as day as the only thing that exists in this world and nothing else. And when he is in boot camp and overseas we see it shot like a classic war movie, this is because in the mind of the character he feels like it’s all a dream or a movie he is in, it all just doesn’t seem real. I wish critic’s would look at this movie in a different perspective because this movie is definitely not your average film. It’s very deep in how it tries to put you in the actual head of the protagonist
@@thayyibsiraj4465 I mean that zendayas fans overhype her acting wayyyy too much, like yes she has talent and is a pretty girl but they act like she’s the best actress to ever touch the earth. she has no range. if you look at all her characters she’s played they’re similar in terms of being chill, laidback, and carefree. she acts very monotone and doesn’t really have a lot of emotion while acting.
@@zndyhllnd doesn’t matter, and no she’s not she’s just the youngest in the drama category. An Emmy doesn’t define anything, there are so many actresses and actors who don’t have emmys and are phenomenal. She just got lucky with Coronavirus because there weren’t a lot of shows because of it.
I remember watching big time rush and thinking she was going places and I was right. She was phenomenal in this movie. Tom holland was talking about how amazing she is, and how they whole cast and crew got close. Makes my heart so happy.
Guy falls in love with girl. Goes to the military. Sees and does bad things. Comes back with ptsd and money problems. Rob’s a bank. Ending is the fall out. The end.
To be honest, this is the best movie ever released to this year. The acting, The cinematography, The vibes. Everything was just so perfect its like im living along with the movie itself. Im really glad I watched this movie. This is a must watch.
I was an extra in this film. I was one of the army guys in the scene that pops up right at 2:00. My brother was also in it w me. They shaved all our heads & I had no idea before I got there that that’s what they wanted to do. Sat down right next to Tom while he FaceTimed his mom. Such a cool experience
@Timmy L He's partly breaking the fourth wall talking to us about robbing banks and then talks to the bank teller he's robbing. Also that most bank tellers are usually female.
This is how you make a trailer. You give us a general idea of what the movie's going to be about, you give us an interesting story to draw us in, but you don't reveal the plot to the entire movie either. 👌🏾
Tom Holland’s was phenomenal in Cherry. I’ve seen the movie before the trailer and I was blown away as the movie progress lol. Hands down one of his best performances. I don’t even see him as Spider-man no more lol.
@Barrier Breakers - re: "lol" Is this "lol" trite phrase used often much in daily life? What you have to say is serious, yet "lol" was tossed in twice. What's up with that?

In the military, a "Cherry" is someone who is brand new. Typically conative to a private arriving to their unit or a term used for the first time doing somthing. "This Cherry has never been to the field before".
Just wow. Never since jarhead has there been such an honest and visceral movie about those who put themselves in harm's way and have to deal with the emotional aftermath. Tom Holland is such a talented actor, who'd of thought that he would have risen to this level so quickly. This is sometimes a hard watch but a must see, highly highly recommended.
I dont know why, but up to this day, I still remember ciara bravo's name for some reason. I dont really follow up on any of her roles, but her face is extremely recognizable.
Yeah I literally can’t tell if this is a sappy Nicholas sparks war film, and sad biographical picture, a time travel flick, or a fourth wall breaking comedy?
sorry my English ita very bad ... Hi I am a soldier in the Iraqi army. I volunteered to serve my country against terrorists. I volunteered in 2005 and now I am in the army. I participated in many battles and I lost many friends. My unit numbered 150 soldiers with 10 officers, only 37 left. Someone from my unit.... When I sleep every day I remember the battles and I remember my friends. It's very difficult....Sometimes I get very nervous because of something simple. I saw the movie and it really affected me that it's a beautiful movie...
I hope you are doing as you can be doing under your circumstances. I hope you are still managing to cope. I am not from your country, but thank you so much for your service. People like you who actually do something are incredible.
For the life of me i dont understand why this movie got destroyed by critics. I thought it was an excellent watch, maybe a bit over the top now and then but still pretty damn entertaining.
I am so proud of Tom lately. He has been slaying and the fact that he has to play five characters in Cherry all in once. I am glad that people are knowing how talented Tom is as well as Ciara. He is slaying!
Wtf are you talking about? Literally plays a kid turned soldier with ptsd robbing banks... where tf is the five different characters he plays u imbecile
I loved this movie! Watched it during a plane trip randomly, without any pretension. The acting was great and the whole situation was very involving, even though I've never experienced either side of the story. I keep on recommending this movie.
If only this movie was good tom would have had so many accolades even an Oscar . His transition to the character's core element is incredible . Amazing actor . Natural .
