An up close look at the life of the Cherry Shrimp. You will see detailed footage of them molting or shedding, mating, feeding, and giving birth to their young. It is filled with detailed and accurate information about how to care for and breed dwarf shrimp in general, but with a particular emphasis on the Cherry Shrimp. There is lots of information, supported by video clips that I am sure will amaze even the most jaded dwarf shrimp enthusiast.
This video took 6 months to film, and is probably the best Cherry Shrimp video out there !

Do shrimps need air pump? Will water plants suffice to produce enough oxygen?
@TheDave333
@TheDave333 6 лет назад
They do better with a bit of water circulation, but they can live without it. I would worry more more about water quality, filtration, frequent small water changes, etc. . . Some people keep one or two in a tiny bowl on their desk at work.

There may be a toxin in the water. It might be copper. It's best to use water that has been treated to remove toxins. If the bowl was uncovered something could have got in the water. Always cover the container. Shrimp are very sensitive to ammonia, nitrites, and nitrates. An aged -seasoned tank with filtration is the best way to raise them. Sorry for your loss.

Just found this vid whilst surfing YT checking out fish-based stuff to see what a lot of so-called self styled "Experts!" are spouting presently. Why so many play loud music to drown out the crap they're spouting is beyond me. Obviously they must know just how much their input is really worth to many of us! This one was a breath of fresh air to me! No crap, just relevent facts needed by anyone interested in actually keeping shrimp (alive). No shouting. no clowning, just pure, detailed, clearly labelled Knowledge. Worthy of an Oscar in my book! If I come across as an old fuddy-duddy I will not apologize as I have been keeping fish since the age of 10.......52 years ago! I still find things to learn every day, unfortunately a lot of it is complete utter rubbish which is hearsay that, because it is on FB or YT, must be true. For some reason that then becomes accepted as fact! Unlike that other rubbish, this video/text has gained its author a Subscription!5*****.

Well said, could not agree more! There are many youtubers just collecting Patreon subscriptions for providing very basic information at best, and inaccurate rubbish at worst. Excellent to find a factual well put together video with no personal opinions passed off as facts.

I agree 100%, the one thing you could do to make the video even better, is if you read the script out loud. The fotage and the detale is fantastic, and the info is realy great. But i (perhaps because i'm not the best reader) have a hard time keeping focus on a video with so much reading. The optimal for one like me, is if you keep the video as it is, but you just read the text :) Great job

You are officially my second favorite shrimp youtuber online... and I am unbelievably picky. O'Leary and college lecturers tie for first. Absolutely fantastic and so far no one beats your video quality, so it is a VERY close second. A longer video including breeding and genetics would have put you over the top, but that is only a personal preference and interest, so I really can't fault a fella for that. Also, I have Autism and ADHD and I REALLY appreciate that your videos come without added noise so we can just concentrate on the info and video unimpeded by the distraction of sound.

I agree, the video is incredibly detailed visually making it wonderful all on it's own. Music is a highly personal preference, so it was a very uniquely wise and refreshing choice to stick solely to the topic everyone who clicked enjoys. Those tiny mystery bugs infesting the empty shell are driving me nuts though, what the heck are they!?

I recently started a Cherry Shrimp tank and really liked how informative this video is on their anatomy. I also have a large aquarium with two goldfish that have taken to eating their java moss as a snack between feedings. Because of this, their filters tend to gather a lot of pieces of java moss. So I alternate in placing the large filters in my shrimp tank. It helps add some beneficial nitrifying bacteria and a food source. The 9 Cherry Shrimp I'm starting with will clean each filter cartridge of plant matter before I swap it out with another filter cartridge. Free food, though I do occasionally throw in a tiny pinch of shrimp food granules to ensure they get nutrients that they may be missing.

Thank you so much for this, brilliant! it's both beautiful and informative! The only thing I could add is that I would call the tiny creatures in the exoskeleton "endosymbiants", as the use of "endoparasites" seems misleading because they seem to be either inconsequential or possibly beneficial to the the shrimp, but do not seem to have a worrisome parasitic relationship. Or perhaps at least pointing out that the precise nature of their relationship, symbiotic or parasitic, isn't definitively known either way. I do like how you mentioned that you haven't noticed any ill effects. In any case, again, thank you so much for this beautifully crafted video! It is excellent! 💚
@TheDave333

I was informed that they are a type of Apostomate cilliate. They feed on the exuvial fluids produced by the shrimp's exoskeleton. They're commonly seen in saltwater crustaceans, but may be unusual in freshwater. . .

The Dave You're welcome! It was kind of you to reply, although I didn't really say much. I appreciate your work; I'm learning new things and that's something I thoroughly enjoy. I, for many years as a child and even into my mid-teens, wanted to be a Marine Biologist but my Mom became very ill, my Dad passed away and it was up to me to care for my small family; don't feel bad, I'm blessed to still have my Mom & a brother who loves me :). In the 10th grade I had the most amazing teacher who made learning fun, she was very much into full on interaction w/ hands on and visual learning. My fascination w/ the field started w/ the tanks my Mom filled at home. We had a shark at one point that grew to be 3ft in length and resembled a miniature Great White. Despite the plethora of aquatic life I loved one particular bugger - a sucker or cleaning fish that grew to astronomical sizes. Every day, throughout the day, it would come to the surface to see me. I'd stick my fingers in and pet it for as long as it wanted - which sometimes was 5 mins but usually more than 30 mins. The story doesn't end well and it's something that still to this day breaks my heart but the beauty of it, was the fish who loved me. Sorry far more of a response than expected! :)
@TheDave333
@TheDave333 6 лет назад
The long response is perfectly fine! Don't be sorry. After all, this is "social media" . . . The sucker fish sounds like a plecostomus ( a.ka. pleco) . And they do get enormous!

The Dave I never knew if it was a he or she but I refereed to it as he. When we got him he was roughly an inch in a half like the others but something happened to him, he grew to an unbelievable size - especially compared to his brothers & sisters. At the time of his passing he was almost 6.5"! His siblings were roughly 2.5" - 3". Social Media, RU-vid is about the only form I'm interactive with. Everything else bores me. Occasionally I hit up Reddit but that's a rare occasion.
@TheDave333
@TheDave333 6 лет назад
He may have been a dominant male that released chemicals into the water that stunted the growth of the other fish, esp. the other males. In fact, quite often with fish, gender is not determined at birth, but by their environment.

I wonder if it is possible the parasite has a symbiotic relationship with the shrimp. Maybe plays a part in some assistance with molting. Crazy stuff. Great video.
@TheDave333
@TheDave333 2 года назад
A symbiotic relationship is definitely a possibility. They only appear shortly after the molt. They feed on the exuvial fluids / shell fluids. I've since learned that they're a type of Apostomate ciliate . Thanks for watching.
