Kolbe left South Africa after he was not selected for the Springboks by Heyneke Meyer (a man who almost single handedly took SA rugby 30 years back with his Broderbond nepotism, remember Dean Greyling and bringing a 40 year old Matfield out of retirement). When Allister Coetzee was made Bok coach, who was Kolbe coach at the Stormers, didn't select him for the Boks, Kolbe felt his Bok dream was well and truly over, Toetie knew Kolbe better than anyone, so not selecting him played a major role in his decision to leave. I don't know what his mentality was in France, all I know is that he left South Africa a world class player and at Tolouse he became stronger, more muscular and his defense became inrecdible. That's why when his coach in France told him Rassie had chosen him in 2018 he didn't belive it and was reduced to tears, I reckon at that point he was playing rugby to feed his family and test the limits of his body. We Western Province fans who still remember the 2012 Currie Cup final vs The Sharks, always knew that Kolbe was the next Gio Aplon. None of this is a surprise, that man had national coaches going to the Northern Subrubs to go watch him play for Bracknell High, a school that's not a rugby powerhouse nor all that famous.

Your facts are slightly out of order. Meyer hardly played a part in Kolbe's early omission. Kolbe had barely been playing Super Rugby in 2015 and was yet to prove himself on the senior stage in Meyer's final year as coach. The Stormers were terrible in 2015, so not a great debut season. In 2015 Meyer was building a World Cup squad, so would have always picked experience over an unknown. Also Meyer picked Aplon in 2012, another small, fleet-footed Cape Tonian, so its possible had he remained as coach, Kolbe would have picked. As outdated and unimaginative Meyer was, its hardly his fault that Kolbe had to wait till 2018 to be picked for the Boks. Arguably, the Stormers under Coetzee and Fleck let him down the most by not evolving past their 2010-12 Golden Era and becoming perennial underachievers. Kolbe had to go to Europe to show what a star he truly was.

@@deansisqoxv20 I got him and Gio messed up. Aplon was overlooked over Nik Naks Kirchner. I had an issue with Meyer's selection process in general

@@deansisqoxv20 How did Fleck remain at helm for that long, unbelievable. Also what are your thoughts on Peter Grant, that 2010-2012 Stormers team, to me all they needed was a proper world class fly half in the Aron Cruden mould and they would've bagged about 2 Super Rugby titles

@@blaquenguni9249 Again I would disagree with you here. Gio was not even the consistent fullback for the Stormers, as he was often played on the wing and Joe Pietersen or Jaco Taute at FB there. So when Kirchner was picked at fullback before Le Roux took over, he did it on the merit of his performance with the Bulls, where he was solid enough. I don't think many rated Gio as the best option at FB for the Boks. Maybe wing but not FB.

Great Video you didn't need to hightlight Scottsville all the time it was not due to him being from Scottsville that gave him talent it's due to him putting all the work like any other player from any where that has got him so far so yeah that's my Imput on things just want to give you a little insight of South Africa, crime rate high yes however scout's from from professional clubs in any sport know where and how they looking for talent regardless from where its taken that would be in any sport, its sounded like narrator is painting the story that sport an should not be from poverty areas or less previlture backgrounds... But great video of Biology. Next time if you want to point out these aspect please narrate on South Africa's or any third world country Sport asociation rather or sporting culture.
