The bishop truly landed on a light square (occupied by the rook). The "land" on the dark square before it was just dramatic to help usher in the windup animation (unless you want to take everything literally/legally, in which case: how the heck do pieces morph into flying or crumbling sand). However, the rook shouldn't have been able to prevent being captured, I'll give you that.

Hi, you are right. When I created the models in this animation I was focusing on the actions to be more complex and not on the chess rules. Sorry about that, I know it is not ok for kids that are watching this video and learn wrongly how to play this wonderful game.
i know, you are right. on that project i wanted to implement different movements in blender so trowing the dice i was able to rotate an object based on its gravity.
