Instead of starting with 100 dollars, you start with, let's say 70. But you get to keep any unspent dollars from the previous bot. So first Martin, then Elani, Aron, Emir, Nelson, etc, until you run out. So you'd have to beat the easier bots really fast in order to have enough money to beat the harder bots.

Chess but my pieces are scared of the dark: RULES: 1. you play as white 2. you cant move a piece to a dark square. 3. a piece that starts on a dark square must move to a light square as soon as possible. 4. you must sacrafise your dark bishop on the second move of the game,(d3, Bh6) 5. you cant castle 6. to checkmate all of your pieces must be on a light square. 7. pawns don't count for this challenge, you can move them anywhere. GOOD LUCK (you will need it.) EDIT: if you think you can do it include pawns aswell ;)

Challenge: Play against Martin but your pieces have time bombs. Making a move resets the bomb timer. If the timer runs out you automatically lose.

This is amazing, especially when I have a very low win rate against Nelson bot, while you can beat him with so limited moves

This challenge is actually pretty nifty. I could see a player vs player version where you get cash and movement cost reduction when your pieces are captured. Done right, people would be sac'ing their queens/ rooks for a movement advantage.

Another variation to try is start with either $1 if playing white or $0 if playing black. The moves retain the same cost, but every move Martin makes he pays you and adds money into your account that you can then spend to make your moves. It would make for some interesting strategy as taking Martin's queen means that you can't get paid $9 when he moves it, and checks can become moneymakers as it would be $10 if Martin moves the king and doesn't block with another piece.

Billards chess, pieces can push other pieces. Pawns will push other pieces one square forward. If a knights path goes over a piece it will push that piece one square in the opposite direction. Bishops can bounce off the sides of the board for trick shots. Rooks can push pieces the entire length of the board. Queens can do what bishops and rooks do for consistency. King is just an omnidirectional pawn. Alternatively the King can be the cue and the pieces would behave as described, but only the king can be moved by the player.

Vary this game a bit: (Your choice, start as black or white) 1. Start with less money $50. 2. All moves are as priced before but additionally pieces that move farther than 1 square incur an additional dollar per square charge. So a pawn that moves 2 squares costs $2, and a queen that moves 4 squares is $12. (knights are always $3) When castling, since you are moving two pieces, it costs $17 king's side or $18 queen's side. 3. Losing a piece costs the same as moving that piece one square. 4. Gain three times the move cost of a piece when you capture it. (checkmate = $30) Yes, exchanges are profitable. 5. Start with Martin and move up each bot until you run out of money or lose to checkmate (rematch at current budget if stalemate, switch colors). 6. Retain your balance from the previous match into the next one. 7. Alternate playing white/black vs each bot.

Chess vs Martin but your army is tied together. Each piece/pawn must be connected to all of the other pieces through only being directly connected vertically, horizontally, or diagonally.

Very good M2 puzzle. I couldn't find it, considered Rb7 but didn't notice the bishop is taking e8 away.

Challange: Same thing but you start with 2000 dollars and you try to beat as many bots as possible (You can't reset the money) Fun addon: You gain $60 (Or some random number) every time you beat a bot. But you start with less money (like 1,500 dollars)

Try chess but you not allowed to land any pieces (and pawns) to 4×4 square on center ( but you still allowed to fly over your pieces over the center ). Good luck if you try this!

The question is - Should the castle have been worth $15 as you moved both the king and the rook? Would have made the difference between winning an losing against Nelson.

Worm hole challenge: every turn you spin a wheel with all board squares on it 2 times ( one for the beginning and one for the end of the worm hole). If there are pawns / pieces on both sides, they switch places, and if there is a pawn / piece on one side it jumps to another side of the wormhole. You can choose to enter the worm hole on your turn if the worm hole is empty both sides. Martin always uses the worm hole if possible! NOTE: on your turn, if you create a worm hole that switches your king to a square that should put him or Martins king in check mate, use the wheel again.. this is not about luck :)

Challenge: You are not allowed to check martin at any time unless it's checkmate.

Could also use same format but when you capture any of martins pieces you get that value added back to your bank... except for king unless you plan on seeing how many bots you can beat before your broke.

Chess but your Knights are the MVPs they must make more move than any other piece. They also must make more captures and check. The Knight must give check mat

Challenge: Play against Martin, but for every move Martin makes, he leaves behind a bomb. That bomb will only target your pieces and explodes automatically after 4 moves. The explosion does not affect pawns and is one field in every direction. You lose if you are either check mated or a bomb explodes near your king.

Hi Nelson -- enjoy your channel, have been watching a few months now. Puzzles are fun; new modes of play are fun. Here's a suggestion for a challenge for you: Mirror-Piece Chess: You play black. When the opponent moves, you must move a piece of the same type on your turn (so if the opponent moves a pawn, you move a pawn). If you don't have the piece in question, you must move the lowest-rank piece available (starting with pawns) instead, excluding the king. Keep in mind this means for example that if you take the enemy queen without trading yours, you will never be able to move your queen again until it's your last piece.

Same, but make a few changes: 1) it’s a timed game, 5 minutes per side, no increment. 2) It costs Martin to move, same as you, and 3) as long as you have more than 30 seconds left, you can “borrow” money from the “bank” (the bank collects all the money spent by either player), but it costs 2 seconds to move a pawn (2 seconds = $1), 6 seconds for a bishop or knight, 10 seconds for a rook, and 18 seconds for a queen, and 30 seconds to move the king. Of course, it goes without saying that Martin can’t borrow, as Martin (being a chess bot) knows nothing of any bank, you can’t borrow more than the bank has to lend, and the overdraft penalty is you lose the game (i.e. you make a move, but the piece costs more time than you have left on the clock.)

a cool addition would be you get money for capturing (same system: pawn = +1$ knight/bishop = +3$ rook = +5$ queen = +9$ king(checkmate) = +15$) also you start with martin and the money you have left is still there in your bank and you have to move on to the next bot so you have to save your money for the harder bots.

Classic challenge suggestion: Capturing is compulsury.

Capture only diagonally rook can move but no capturing knight captures only at fourth move. ( Can make a bit more challenging pieces can only move even numbers of squares. Means 2,4,6.....)

Chess but it's Gurilla Warfare: 1. Pawns may not advance any further than 5th rank 2. Pieces that have no own pawn in front of them have to be moved until they capture something - this does not apply on otherwise empty files 3. Pieces that captured something have to run behind an own pawn, this always take precedent over attacking 4. If a piece is on the run but has no place to hide then a hiding space has to be created 5. If 2 applies for multiple pieces the piece that can attack the highest value target (not the king) in the least amount of moves has to be moved (reevaluate after every move) Good luck, have fun

Video idea: The infected army Once a bot occupies a square with a piece it becomes infected and you’re piece cannot move there without being infected. Infected pieces will die after the next turn. Additionally, you will not want to place pieces so that they touch the bots. If your piece is touched by an infected piece it again becomes infected and dies after the next turn.

You could try chess but your pieces have a kind of timer. Each piece (pawn, bishop, rook etc) has a specific move timer. If that timer runs out every piece of that kind disappears. After every move the timer of every piece of that kind goes down by one. For example the move timer of your pawns is 3 so every third move has to be a pawn move then it resets for all pawns and if you make the pawn move the other pieces timer goes down by one. If you don't do it every pawn disappears. Here are the timers I'd give to every piece you can change them though if it's too difficult. Pawn: 3 Bishop/Knight: 4 Rook: 5 Queen: 6 King: 7

Do it again but when you capture a piece, you win back the money accordingly with the captured piece value

Suggestion: Marathon Chess. You play 5 games against Martin, but each piece you lose is lost permanently. Eg, if you win but lost your e pawn and queen to checkmate, the next game you start without that pawn and queen. (this might lead to strategic sacking of the a of h pawn so that your rooks can enter the game faster)

Challenge: Martin Stealing Pieces: Every 5 turns one of your pieces or pawns randomly become Martin's well except for the king lol

7:10 You missed Nxe5. I thought it was a beautiful idea when i saw it. Pawn can't take the knight, because it's pinned to the queen, and can't take the bishop, because after the knight moves the Queen is skewered to the King. The best move after Nxe5 according to stockfish is actually Be6, completely ignoring both "hanging" pieces.
