For those players that love chess gambits, the budapest gambit is a must for your toolbox. From early on, black takes white out of normal book lines for common openings and forces them into unfamiliar territory for many. White has to always look out for traps that black can throw at him.

Terrific presentation. I have played this defense many times, and 2 opponents have fallen into the Kieninger trap (Nd3mate!) because it's so natural to try to hold onto the e5 pawn. It would have been nice to show an illustrative game with the rook lift (Ra8-a6-h6)

I was disappointed with the inadequate attention he gave to the 4 e4 variation .I think that analysis covered the first 3 moves. To play against this line you need to go a lot further. It gives me the impression he is very unsure of how to play this line. The rest of the video gives you a start but I think you will need to study it more deeply to get consistent results.

I just mouse slipped into a Budapest and liked the results. Shame I didn’t know the trap, that would’ve been funny

This is a superb overview of the Budapest Defense with a sparkling clear analysis by a gifted narrator. In 2 of my games, opponents have fallen into the Kieninger trap. I wish the narrator would have gone further with the 3rd line; the rook lift seems exciting , but speculative. I would like to have seen a continuation for another 2 moves. Who is the narrator that deserves the credit for his smooth and relaxed demeanor ? Thanks so much.

isn't the rooklift plan kinda doomed to fail? with Ng4 being inpossible from the start (because of Bxg4 obviously) and after e4 the rook is also chased away (discovered attack from the bischop on c1) what are your thoughts on this?

Moahaha! Thx Kev!! The smothered mate worked for me and I beat a guy in 9 (!) moves!!! I had been watching Mamedyarov games and I read about him on Wikipedia. He is famous for alekhine defence and of course Budapest gambit. I allways check ur vids bcoz u tell the right stuff. Thx sir!
