Can Endometriosis cause chest pain and lung collapses?
In this video, I talk about the symptoms of thoracic endometriosis - which can vary from person to person - but they often include chest pain, shortness of breath, and sometimes collapsed lungs (pneumothorax). Due to the overlap of symptoms with other conditions, thoracic endometriosis can be challenging to diagnose, leading to delayed identification and treatment.
This video also talks about what thoracic endometriosis is, how it’s often diagnosed, how endometriosis lesions, adhesions, and stroma can lead to lung collapses, and treatment options.
Thoracic endometriosis is more common than we give credit - research around endometriosis is lagging (causing many to think that extrapelvic endometriosis is not common - when in reality it is!)

It's important to note that thoracic endometriosis requires a multidisciplinary approach involving endo specialists, pulmonologists, and other specialists to properly diagnose and manage the condition. If you or someone you know is experiencing unexplained chest pain or other symptoms during menstruation, it's crucial to seek medical attention and consult with healthcare professionals experienced in dealing with endometriosis and related conditions.

Don't forget the common " panic attack" as a misdiagnosis. The lack of education on this disease is unreal. Please continue educating on this subject. So many of us are dependent on others symptoms and stories to actually look into it. I have 2 uterus and 2 cervix. I have endometriosis. It took almost 10 years to figure out what was happening to me. I felt like I had to school my own doctors. I have had 7 children. I'm in the worst pain of my life currently.

Is the uterus you birth kids from the sick one? Have you birthed children from both? How does this happen? We’re you gonna be a twin but the egg didn’t split all the way? Super cool.

Thank you so much for all of the detail in this video. I am currently 28, with all symptoms of thoracic endo, and my primary care dismissed my now 5 months long daily excruciating pain as just acid reflux. At 23 I went in for appendicitis and they tried turning me away for “having cramps” and 45 minutes later I was in emergency surgery. Turned out to be cancer in my appendix, and they diagnosed endometriosis at that time as well. Fast forward a year, they did another scan and informed me I had two pulmonary nodules which I now know can be related to thoracic endo. And 4-5 years later they have done nothing else to address/fix/help the pulmonary nodules or the endometriosis. Needless to say I’m slightly traumatized with doctors not listening and really unsure how to move forward to get them to rule out thoracic endometriosis. But I’m soooo over the constant daily pain. It’s truly debilitating! Again thank you for all of your information it’s really helping me try to piece together any other reasons for what’s happening to me and now hopefully to find some correct answers!

Thank you for this video. In June of this year I was experiencing difficulty breathing, chest pain when I laid down, dizziness. I finally went to the doctor who took chest xrays and told me to check in immediately to the ER. When I mentioned that I had had similar but way less painful symptoms in the past just before my period started the first ER doctor said, "Impossible." I was admitted to the hospital and for days they believed that I had Stage 4 lung cancer. Finally, after mentioning my previous pain and the timing of it to several other doctors, I was sent for a CT of my lower abdomen and a softball sized mass was discovered in front of my uterus. Some of the doctors still treated me like it was cancer. I was scheduled for a full hysterectomy two weeks later. I didn't know I had endo but I also never knew it could be anywhere other than my lower abdomen. This information needs to get out there. People need to know this.

Yes, this is happening to me right now, only just been diagnosed after 16 years post hysterectomy. I have it throughout the bowel, pelvic, and chest.

Good Evening Endoemmm your video is really good and informative. There is slight difference on Endometriosis and Thoracic Endometriosis. I Believe once you have chest pain with lung collapse you are in severe stages of Endometriosis and most likely level 3 and 4 you must see a Doctor immediately. Great video I learn quite a bit from you Doctor.

Omg I've been dealing with thoracic pain for over 15 years. I'm 34 now and right now the pain is killing me 😢 I really need to find a good doctor

Excellent video, thank you. I had severe breathlessness (lack of oxygen ), and those heavy chest pains, as well as severe bleeding, before or after my period. Do you know what specific x-ray is needed? Thanks 🙏🏿

I was diagnosed in 2013 at that time it was on my bowels and kidneys fast forward to now I’m 40 and have severe bleeding iron levels are at 1 .. refused pain meds and iron infusion.. the extreme tiredness and pain is so debilitating.. but I have had severe pain in my thoracic area for at least 5 years it has been blamed on sub acute pneumoniaitis and copd but listen to you I’m starting to wonder if the endo has travelled up .. I have also had panic attacks that they can’t explain so put it down to a silent panic attack .. also I had a recently ‘normal’ chest X-ray for the first time since I had Covid after being under the lung consultant so now doesn’t explain my symptoms now .. I’m in Scotland thankyou for your discussion around this

What testing do they do for the lungs? I'm getting the surgery on Dec 20th so they can see how bad my endometriosis is. I went to the er because my chest pain got bad thought it was my heart but the er said my heart was fine. Yet I've still had chronic chest pain. How should I bring this up to my surgeon or should I not mention it at all giving the circumstance of what they do to figure out if it thoratic

On Zoladex injection to end my periods after I had pleurodesis surgery ..😢... surgery was done in the back to access lungs so now coping with nerve pain From chest tube and surgery

@@kemigold1860 Oh hi! I haven't had a period since taking the zoladex. I have to take it until I get to fifty four years. The other option is hysterectomy which my Doctors say would be a very high risk surgery. I also have chronic reflux/LPR/gurd. So on PPI as well. My entire body seems out of wack, but as symptoms arise from anything I take medicine until I feel relief. Menopause symptoms like hot flashes have subsided and are not as frequent. The flashes and depression was awful at the beginning of taking the injection. Much better now. How are you doing?

I have been told this too. Here I am searching for these videos convinced I have thoracic months later and after going to a&e in November with such bad pain. They checked for pulmonary embolism which it wasnt. I had endometriosis excised in May privately from pelvic area but I don't think my diaphragm could have been fully checked then as apparently the liver would be in the way? I have tracked for months and have an appointment end of the month. Did you get any extra help?
