Wow. Perhaps the best ever RU-vid "how to" anything I've ever watched. Covers what you want to do, how you might want to do it, AND most importantly a complete explanation of they why, in this case the difference between the underlying tech on HRS vs HR sports watch depends on physiology, which is kinda the point. HRS monitor on phone, HRS monitor on dedicated sports watch. Been using Polar HRS with phone app, which obviously is PITA when you are on the go, Especially when using for hiking, like in phone unfriendly environments like a driving rain. OTA hand being an older (66) , uh hi BMI like 33 and undertrained I need a 99% + accurate BPM when I'm crawling up the last of that 800ft climb. Just got a Garmin inspire, understood that some BPM variability. Used for first time last night on a stair climber and spent more time trying to comprehend the quantitative and time-lag differences between G and Polar HRS/Phone than I actually did on the activity, which involved a lot of sweat and blood flow. So thank you for that. Awesome. Now over to AMAZON to order the , wallah, Garmin HRS. 😄🤔. I will be back to check out rest of channel, as noted need training for hiking. Best

ok, no Garmin strap require. PloarH10 strap will pair with Garmin watch. It looks like its relatively easy for Garmin running watch. Couldn't find a good G Inspire vid. So here goes: Put on Polar H10 ANT+ should be enabled, if not there are bunch of video's on the Polar side. On Garmin Hold Menu button, brings up "watch face" scroll down 2 using "ABC" key; Hit "GPS" button to select. Brings up"Activities &APPS" . Scroll down 4 until Sensors and Accessories. GPS button to select. Brings up "Add New" . GPS to select. Brings up "Search All" GPS to select. Hopefully your chest strap comes up and scroll to it (BTW the Menu button is the up button...go figure), navigate and GPS to select. what is weird is there is no indication of success. if you scroll down one below "Add" it shows "Wrist Heart Rate" GPS . Status "Auto" or off doesn't actually display what straps are paired. Hopped on my Concept 2 for a couple of minutes, Garmin seemed to track with Polar APP, some latency of a second or so, 2 BPM +/-. Don't have a Polar watch so... Please be kind with any comments. Coming off of a year long or so bout of Long Covid. Some serious shit. Cognitive abilities started coming back (subjective evaluation) a couple of months ago and cardio wise seem to be pretty close to pre-covid (based on Concept 2 erg), so I'm pretty grateful for any of this. BTW if you happened to get a bad case of Atrial Fribulation within 18-36 hours of the vaccine you are not alone. Just saying. Garmin does have an ECG app, but apparently not for Inspire yet. Total miss vs all the other smart watches. Will post later if i find anything further. This whole thing has really been delay tactics to get up and actually hike/train . Peace

Very interesting! I always wondered how the optical sensor worked. I wore my cheapo fitness watch along with my famous brand chest strap sensor through different workouts to compare the results. They seem close enough for my purposes so I pretty much stick with the more convenient watch method, although its readings did fluctuate more than the chest sensor.

Depending on what phone you have, you can buy a heartrate strap that picks up that signal- so you could buy a bluetooth chest strap if you have an andriod phone, or a ant+ strap if you have an apple phone, and then use an app to see your heartrate!

Minor correction, I think. At about the 3 minutes mark - Apple devices do not support ANT+ “natively” are more readily compatible with Bluetooth LE, as opposed to the ANT+ type of wireless signal. And many Android devices support ANT+ “natively” but should also have Bluetooth LE compatibility as well.

I have a Garmin 245 , do you turn off wrist based heart rate in the settings if using the HRM dual strap , or do you just pair it and it takes the reading from that, it means both wrist and strap would be connected so which one would it display or as mentioned before do you turn off wrist hr
@wildrfitness

I have the same watch! I believe if the strap is paired the watch will use that reading, and then default to the optical reader if the strap is not available. :)

If I use a strap and my garmin watch the watch is dominating and my Zwift/Garmin statistics show the (too low!) heartrate of my watch. It is a huge underestimate: 110 instead of 150 ! For cycling I can leave my watch at home, but for running I bought this watch. How can I stop the heartbeatmonitoring of my watch and get my watch to show the number of my strap?
@wildrfitness
@wildrfitness 7 месяцев назад
Hey Peter! I have had the same issue before, the way I fixed it was: on my watch, I went into my settings and turn off 'optical heartrate". You'll know its off becuase the lights on the back of the watch won't turn on if you tap them. Does that make sense? Hope this helps it can be really frustrating when the wrong data is getting recorded!!!

I never get accurate hr readings no matter whether I'm using strap or my Garmin forerunner. They always read way too high. E.g I was running for 2hrs at 5:34min/km pace and I was able to speak in full sentences with my husband . My heart rate monitors read that my hr was around 170-180 per min. Yesterday when I was resting between weightlifting sets my hr strap read that my pulse was 124 per min and in reality it was around 70-75 when I checked it manually. This is beyond frustrating since I'm trying to follow a training plan for a half marathon.
@wildrfitness
@wildrfitness 7 месяцев назад
Hey! This does sound frustrating, you CAN go to manual measurements (find your pulse on your neck or wrist and count for 10 seconds, multiply by 6), it isnt perfect at all, but it can help you see if your watch or band are anywhere close to the right measurements.
@williamkterrell

Okay but if i connect my chest strap with my phone, do i have to look always on the phone what my heart rate is? isn't there a strap that gives me a beep or something if my hr is to high? I am thinking about to buy something to measure but don't have the money but i want to train low heart rate. i dont want to buy an expensive smart watch only for this to be honest.

@wildrfitness
@wildrfitness 10 дней назад
that definitely works! Unfortunately it doesn't work for rapidly changing heartrates (for example, during interval sessions when your heartrate is rapidly going up and down). But it is a great skill to have and can be used for low intensity activity. As I say in the video, going off of RPE (rate of perceived exertion), is always an option if you want to opt for a technology free option :)
@oedothorax
@oedothorax Месяц назад
The video is interesting but, for me, not very useful. My Garmin watch gives widely varying heart readings so I'm thinking of buying a chest strap. But I want to know about connectivity. If you run and have a chest strap monitor do you have to take your smartphone along to see your heart rate or can you download on to your smartphone after the run, like I do with my watch? When you say the Garmin chest strap and watch 'talk to each other' what exactly does that mean?
@wildrfitness
@wildrfitness 10 дней назад
The watch and heartrate monitor will connect if they both transmit in the same 'launguage.' Your best bet would be getting a garmin strap to pair with your garmin watch. I believe, currently as of june 26th 2024, the garmin watch reads an ANT+ strap and can be done with the garmin connect app.

Oh my. I was simply curious if the heart rate strap that was bundled with my treadmill was worth using as I already own an Apple Watch. Then this girl Alecia shows up and I can’t help but smile. You’re absolutely tied for the most beautiful woman on the planet. I had to Google a bit just to learn about your endeavors. Ah hah. I know I am spoiled in many ways growing up in the Bay Area of California. However I planned ahead and wanted dual citizenship; so when my parents were visiting Banff I decided to risk the prematurity thing. Life story. Southern Alberta! I write for the Flames! You’re so friggin cute and I mean that in the most innocent (and am aware that it is not exactly appropriate feedback). Psshh….I’ve known a Canuck from the squalor that is Ontario for nearly a decade. Maddie guided me through a quick core workout while I was in a hotel one evening…..I saw something. The ‘it’ factor of charisma, knowledge, beauty, enthusiasm….blah blah. MadFit is now a huge channel. So you’re such creep you can predict the entrepreneurial success of women based on your inherent misogyny? Hey 🙁 I love Southern Alberta. It has a rare beauty. Calgary has a combination of Western ‘Cowboy’ culture in a vibrant urban setting sans the inherent ignorance, racism, etc that is often found in say, Dallas. Texas is great; but you know… Beautiful blondes are plentiful and are all equally valuable unique humans on and on… You aren’t Texas Alecia. You have the rad culture but you also have some crazy Rocky Mountains. An ethnic minority who is homosexual snd struggling with Methamphetamine addiction (odd tangent; but somehow fitting the theme of this rant) who wants to participate in Stampede festivities?! Shenanigans ya blankety slur slur blankety blank! Calgary will still welcome you. Let’s work on the illicit drug abuse however. What’s the catch?! A S-ton of oil? WHAT. You are like a temperate Norway with all your friendly tolerant economic prowess geographic beauty snd Alecianic population. I could surf and ski in the same day growing up. I could geographically Alecia. This analogy is an absolute disaster. This is what happens when you study Sociology for six years at Berkeley yet remain a man with good intentions. The struggle between my instinctual recognition of someone special, my kind nature simply wanting to say ‘keep doing what you’re doing’, whilst being aware of the social climate and this content involving cardiovascular monitoring. Well dammit. I have been placed and met people. Super amazing men and women. Very few radiate whatever Wild Rose enthusiasm you have going on here, you’re truest a charismatic leader and instead of fascism; you’ve chosen to build a career sharing what you love. If I was….a human. And received this abstract excessive tangential praise….I’d be concerned. Don’t be! I had fun. Best of luck and Go Flames Go! www.wildr.ca
