Chet Atkins "Theme From A Dream"

The melody sounds just like the title...dreamy. As if one is closing their eyes at the fading light of nocturne..and Chet captures the mood perfectly. The harmonic section at the end is the icing on the cake. The playing is sophisticated enough to really demonstrate the the young man from the hills with a guitar in his hand had FAR surpassed his rustic roots. It's no wonder Mr guitar earned his reputation and earned all the awards and accolades that he did during his career. He will NEVER be equaled.

Chet will never be experienced again. He was once in this universe. He was born a legend, from poor to guitar master. And he was a modest and great person. He gave me a life's passion of playing his tunes. Im 82 and am going to fire up my modified Fender Deluxe (per Paul and Rivera) and play into the sunset playing 'I love how you love me ' God bless Chet for his gift to us.

Brings me back to my parent's wild cocktail parties in the early sixties. I used to sit at the top of the stairs and listen. All those people are long gone now. So yes, this is very appropriately titled because it all seems like a dream to me now.

I heard Chet sixty years ago as a young teen and began getting his records on 45. I was able to find some old 78s that have long gone the way of the wind. Then began the years of the LPs and then CDs. What an influence on my life, not only as a guitarist, but Chet was a honorable man with class. (one wife and no scandals) His ability to pick great singers and songwriters is almost unequaled in this business.

I own just about all of Chet's albums. Every one of them is special. But my favorite is probably the "Hollywood" album. However, the album that originally got me started playing Chet's style was "Fingerstyle Guitar". For years I wondered "How did Chet do that" on so many of those tunes. All of my pickin' kept me off of the streets when I was growing up. Thanks Chet and thanks for posting so many of these wonderful songs, Doug.

I played this tune on my youtube videos and it could not compare with the great one but I do thank you Chet for showing me how to play this tune somewhere below ten percent of the quality with which you performed it. We miss you but you will live on forever through your music.

Great picture of Chet for this tune. Chet always has a way of captivating those listening because of how awesome he plays. The guitar in this just has the perfect blend of reverb and delay to create an atmosphere that is exactly what the title says, dreamy. Wonderful, and incomparable. I first heard Chet playing ,the Theme from the film, ''The Dark at the Top of the Stairs''. in 1961. Like this recording -(which is new to me, ) it was melodic and wonderful, with full orchestral backing. As a teenager then, I loved the Shadows and other Guitar groups like 'The Ventures'', but was 'blown away' as they say, by this mans brilliance. To my surprise, I soon discovered that his fame, lay in US Country Music, and that this style, was not typical of him, and in fact, upset some of his hardened 'Country' Fans. Great tallent will show itself, regardless of genre.

The options there are download tunes in midi or tab. Use the tab option.and download the desired songs from the list. Then copy the tef file to the tabledit folder and you can hear it and view it on the fingerboard graphic either at the bottom of the screen or sometimes on the right side. You can pause it at any point or slow it down and learn the tune. It is great. There are other sites where you can find Chet's tef files for many of his songs also. Hope this is helpful.
@VANEPS7
@VANEPS7 11 лет назад
I don't yet have equipment to make videos but a great program I used to learn many Chet Atkins tunes is Tabledit. It plays tef files and even has a guitar fretboard that shows where all the notes are played as the song progresses. To get a free demo version which is all you need enter "Tabledit" in a search window and download the program. Then enter "Chet Atkins fretted instrument NYC" in search window and it will take you to a bunch of Chet's tunes. I will continue this in next reply.

This is my favorite Chet number and second is Stephen Foster medley he was and still is the greatest guitarist in my opinion but a lot of the magic was the Gretsch 58s I think when he went to Gibson he sacrificed a lot of tone but not badmouthing the Gibson CG they just sound like a Gibson and a Gretsch sounds like Chet

why did God do that, break the mold? It's like saying God took him away. The other night I dreamt I was talking to my dad, not realizing that at the time that he had passed on in real life, asking him why he had to move out of mom's house. He replied that there wasn't enough light there. I implored him to come back, desperately trying to persuade him that I could open up that part of the room, rearrange this, do that. He just looked at me and said "you don't understand".

Like she doesn't love as much, and has no interest in making amends (but I'm always trying to get close to her, because in reality shes dead). In dreams you get to hear their voice in living color instead of black and white memories.
