In this video I introduce you all to a project that I’ve only shared on Instagram! It’s my 1981 Chevy 3/4 ton 4x4 flatbed. I bought this truck from a neighbor last year. The rear brakes on this truck were completely non-functioning. I have my suspicions that the brake bleeder screws were mistaken for grease zerks. I also figured I would change out the axle bearings and seals while I had the brakes apart. Turns out the passenger side wheel bearing was toast. The axle is the semi-floating 9.5” 14 bolt. I replaced and cleaned the entire rear brake system. Wheel cylinders, brake shoes, brake hardware kit, parking brake cables, brake hose, one drum was turned and one had to be replaced.

Omg. The lube guy put a grease gun on the bleeder valves. I have to wonder now...did he open them first?

Quickest easiest way to remove a bearing race if you have a welder is run a bead around the inside of the race and it will pretty much fall out

I was gonna say same. Was trying to take mental notes And see what size wrenches and open end wrenches used. I need to do this to my 77 k10 soon. I just bought most of the parts But never really done drum brakes

Do you have the part numbers for the wheel bearing and axle seal? I have the same axle. Are these 13” brakes? That’s the size I ordered for my truck hopefully that was correct

After my experience with a 1 ton 14bolt FF swap and the el dorado brake kit.... save yourself a ton of cash and get a newer model 14 bolt with GM disc brakes and factory parking brake set up. I had the option to do this but went with the old school set up, but the newer axle would have saved me hundreds of dollars in the long run.

Great advice! I did see a early 2000’s FF 14b in CL out in East Texas with disc brakes. Price was reasonable but not great. It would have been a 6 hour round trip for me. I thought about but decided against it. Too much trouble.

Hey there is a something in the brake lines it's a weird looking thing that the brake lines go throught above the rest axle. It looks like it has something to do with the load in the bed it has a wheel on it with arm..I disconnected mine and the brakes when I push the peddle sometimes they lock up in the rear is. That cause I disconnected that thing. Anyone know whay it's called so I can find a replacement
