The culprit for all these errors turned out to be shoddy wiring from when the car was assembled. The car had problems off the assembly line and I have all the documents to prove it now. The error codes kept pointing to the throttle body which indeed was not working correctly but not because it was faulty but because the wiring seemed to be shorting out the sensors all over the car. There are a lot of rumors and videos online showing GM using inferior cheap products where quality should be the highest concern. I will never drive another GM vehicle again. Their service has been ridiculous and their product has been pathetic to say the least.
-------------------------------
2014
This is the 7th time my car had broken down for the same problem.
The car shakes violently, the trantion control goes out, the car feel like its running in 3rd gear because it dies if I slow down below 5 mph, and the engine feel like its running with the power of 2 cylinders. I've had transmissions rebuilt 3 times, throttle bodies replaced 3 or 4 times, new wiring harness or wiring of some sort, new computers, new sensor (wasn't told which one) and now a new peddle assembly. I have a mountain of paper work that the director of the service department at the dealership tried to withhold from me. I tried to express my concern that I don't feel safe in this car anymore when it breaksdown on the freeway in traffic and I was cursed at by the director of the service department, who is no longer there for some reason, because he didn't want to have a "pissing contest with me". I've been without my car for over 110 days in a 12 month period. You can see my 9th breakdown at • 2011 Chevrolet Malibu ...

I got a report from GM on this car and its history of warranty work and it turns out this car has had this problem since it was first out of the factory, like literally it was build then 200 miles it had these same error codes and it has been "FIXED" more than a dozen times for the same thing. It has had its throttle body replaced before the 6 that it had replaced when I owned it, wiring harness been replaced, computer replaced, transmission rebuild 3 times and computer that controls the transmission, replaced. It has had almost 20 major problems covered under the warranty, and it is still under warranty. GM promised me a fair deal to trade in the car but the dealership suddenly backed out with no reason as to why. Our lemon laws here do not cover because of mileage restrictions. Last thing that was fixed on it was they replaced the gas peddle assembly and linkage. We really cant trust the car to leave the city at this point. I remain skeptical but I have discovered that GM has been using lesser quality part than it had before the bailout. This could be just misinformation as the evidence it all anecdotal, but my particular car is a POS, I wouldnt wish it on my worst enemy.

I am getting rid of my 1997 malibu asap. It did run well then it seemed like everything started breaking at once. Like only 109000 miles? I got 235000 on my Toyota minivan, and I might consider another one. It kept the same exhaust system too. The plugs changed once at 100000 miles, but at 235000, still looked healthy.

Jo Neel I really feel you my friend. I just got my LTZ back a couple days ago from Libertyville Chevy here in Illinois on a second transmission replacement.. Yes.. a SECOND transmission. Days after gett ing it back I could recognize noise that was never there & have a trans that's won't gear down & almost caused my to have a wreck. The dealership won't get back with me after warranty work has been done now. I wish you the best of luck... I'll NEVER buy another Malibu AGAIN. Stupid on my part.

Clean the goo in your throttle body simple fix, if still persisting there is a TCS module (Throttle Control Sensor) mounted on the side of throttle body if you can't get that unit separately you need to buy new Unit, ALSO Your Brake Switch is bad that's the reason for the Service TCS (Traction Control System)light, an a oil change would be a good idea from what I could hear.
@jasonj5862
@jasonj5862 4 года назад
According to the sticky and video description, the dealership replaced the entire throttle body several times. They also replaced the entire peddle assembly which I would hope included also replacing the brake switch if the dealership was smart.

My 2010 Chevy Malibu has started doing the same thing. The first time was yesterday as my teenage daughter was driving it and told me it stopped on her. When I got to the car it seemed to be working fine. This morning, I am driving to work on the freeway and the engine power reduced and ESC service and check engine light comes on. The car slows down to 30 mph and I have to coast through 4 lines of traffic to get off the expressway. The same thing started happening to my 2006 Pontiac Grand Prix and it still was not repaired after 2 costly repairs. I am NEVER, EVER buying another GM.

Ok, update on my last update. So I took the car in to re-check the work on the recall that I had done this weekend. Just got a call that the car has been repaired. hmmm, trying to stay optimistic. Looks like they plugged it into thier computer and got a bunch of codes related to the "Mass airflow sensor". Seems to make sense. I will pick it up and drive it for a couple of weeks and give a final... I hope update. The technician said that they found "garbage in the mass airflow sensor". I'm not really mechannically inclined, so I'm hoping this resolves the issue. Like I said, I really like this car model. I'm in a loaner newer 14/15 year malibu, its cool but I like my 10 body style. Bigger. Tomorrow is pick up day so in the words of schmiegel, "You will see.... You will see" (schmiegel voice).

I have an '09 Malibu 4 cyl and had similar happen last year. Codes pointed to O2 sensor but replacing them didn't help. Finally after having a semi barreling down on me while merging on the highway barely doing 40 mph I went to the dealer. Turns out the exhaust manifold cracked and the catalytic converter was bad. Both were replaced under federal warranty and fixed the problem.Unfortunately this happened right after I had to get the trans rebuilt at only 65000 miles. Of course after warranty expired. Fluid tube in the trans broke and basically overheated due to lack of fluid inside. And this happened after my sunroof drain tube popped out. Twice. and I had 2 inches of standing water in my car. I miss my Accord more and more every day.

Solution found and problem never reoccurred. First replaced throttle assembly 3 times; once by chevy dealer. Then realized when it rained real heavy it happened again. My boyfriend found that the drain hose up in the sun roof had come loose so the water was draining down the headliner along the driver side windshield and finding its way to the wiring for the pedal. Just had to put some real sticky stuff on the drain hose and push it back together. Chevy dealer failed to find this. Also took it to an independent mechanic and they failed to find it. Turned out it was the fucking brake fluid being like a half inch too low... Christ. Door speakers stopped worked. Wiring? Alignment sucks even after taking it in to get it fixed twice. The two rear and passenger front locks don't work right. Now the motor is going out. Goddamnit. Loud as fuck. It's sad, because whoever designed the car did a fantastic job. I love the aesthetics of the vehicle. Nice and sporty, grabbed it for under $11k. Being a pre-dash mounted interface vehicle, the interior isn't half-bad. Well-designed. this happened to my 2008 Malibu LT. I replaced the altenator and battery. and I still had the issue. No one could tell me what the issue was. I found the cable at the bottom on the alternator was burned through. I found a replacement cable and that started it up. the only issue I have now is with the brights not coming on.

I had a 2009 malibu for a year. After 10 months it started having these problems, I replaced throttle body, pedal sensor, and redid some wiring for the throttle body and it still didn't work. I also took to a shop, they replaced battery terminals and a hose from the engine to the throttle body, didn't work. I'm selling it now and got a 2014 toyota camry lol. If you got this problem best suggestion is get a new car, don't waste money on trying to repair it. Please. Save your money and just get a new car. You'd save more money trading it in and stuff.

I have an 09 LTZ with a 3.6 L V6. I have the same issues. I only put 1,000 miles on it since I got it. The "Service ESC" message comes on all the time. I've replaced the bearings. The sensors for this signal are in those bearings. Les than a year later, the issue happened again. The transmission is equal garbage. It hesitates to shift into drive, and occasionally acts as if it wants to slip. Before you buy any vehicle, make sure you don't have to disassemble the transmission to change the filter. My specific trans has to be pulled out to service the filter. Most vehicles have a pan or some other access....... Not the Malibu with a 3.6. And if you have one, go ahead and change the cooling fan assembly on the radiator if it is at around 150K miles. My fan blades decided to explode into a million fragments, and they destroyed the radiator. I had to buy a new fan setup as well as a radiator. Save yourself the trouble and replace the fan before it causes worse issues.

That’s a motor mount issue and as for some of those errors they fix on there own when clearing it if the motor mount fails and you still keep driving it the engine can knock and course very serious issues but the car I have had in my family for 12 years now and it still runs like a dream I did have to replace a timing chain but that was due to my grandfather tuning it without fluids for over a year every car has troubles and most can be fixed by hand

Buy Toyota or Honda, heck even hyundai.. NEVER buy a GM/Chevy product. Fords are just as bad, their Tranmissions fail left and right and are junk. Dodges/Fiat Cars are worse then GM and Ford.. Truth is none of the big 3 build good cars. Buy a Camry or Accord.. They are built in the USA, by American workers. and the last for ever.. And when you do sell them they are worth money when GM/Ford/Dodge cars are worth nothing after 100k.. Yeah is a Camry a sports car? Hell NO.. But its a safe, honest, hard working car that will start and get you and your family where you want to go safe evey single time!
@joneel271
@joneel271 5 лет назад
I agree on the Chevy part... I have no experience with dodge but I have 2 fords, one at 362k and the other at 112k both are running strong. Had a Corolla that's engine blew at 62k miles and ford focus that went to 440k miles... I did have a civic si that was at 320k when I sold it but in t did have the engine replaced twice, one by the previous owner and once when the engine fell out down by rocky point... I also have a z28 that had 108k on it before I blew the rear end. Now I have taken a different approach to cars and I built the vehicle to fit my style, which mean more money but far far superior aftermarket products. My old f150 is an offroad work of art. I dont really see a car's values as anything important, they are not investments in my opinion. They are means to get somewhere. As for this Malibu, jesus this thing sucked, I'll never go back to chevy. However I would love to own a Toyota land cruiser

Well gusys, update on my last post. So I got the recall completed (at no charge). But....... guess what, yup, happend again this morning on my way to work. I pulled over and shut it off for 5 minutes. Started it up, and it works like a champ. Now do I trust this vehicle to take me to work every day? hmmm.... I also drive for uber and I don't think I trust this vehicle to not stall on me when I'm with a client. Something else, the tranmission. Every once in a while the care "jumps" into gear between 2 & 3rd. I've ignored this until two days ago when the vehicle continued to increase rpm but did not increase speed as though I had the shift lever in netural. I was moving when this occured. I released the gas pedal and pressed it again and the tranmission engadged. Not cool. Got a feeling that this tranmsision is a POS. The vehicle is a 2010 with about 118k miles on it now. Really considering getting rid of this and never going chevy again. sux becasue I like the design of the body style. Also, now the engine light shuts on and off intermittently.
