GM and GMC vehicles have been plagued by throttle position sensor problems along with the dreaded reduced engine power or limp mode. Here, we show you the cure. T.S.B. www.autocodes.com/uploads/gmc...
Was mad about not knowing what was going on with my car and you provided perfect information and the kick to the car really made my day better and I thank you for that😂
I feel like I had this problem years ago with my impala and I also changed the this part and it worked. But forgot all about it and now I have the same problem again, and this helps thanks!
My 2002 chevy 2500 just gave me this reduced power code and the truck wouldn't go more than 15mph with the throttle to the floor. The truck would always stall on me like it was having the gas shut off. It would do this at low speeds or in idle. It stalled on me today and wouldn't start. Ran the battery dead turning it over. Finally decided to start with a jump but then had the reduced engine power...Thanks for this video!
Thanks a ton for this. I have an 2007 Chevy Uplander and 2 days ago we got the same error. Problem at my auto stores is that the sensor costs almost as much as the whole throttle body. So I just replaced the whole thing based on your video. Thankfully it didn't need reprogramming and worked perfect out of the box. Used Hitachi ETB. Thanks a ton.
I have 330 k miles on 2004 Venture. Uses leaks no oil runs excellent Original motor trans rack. Only changed fuel pump starter alternator well hubs. Very cheap to fix. Excellent GM product. All my other Chevy trucks over 250k no major problems.
Thanks so much for the help, we didn't know what the issue was so we google the problem, this video popped up, followed your instructions and haven't had a issue since!! 👍👍
Thank you I have a 2002 and 2004 Chevy Surburbans and both have done the reduce engine power messages. Both have been great vehicles with the least amount of repairs both have over 250,000 miles a piece, on them. Thank you I now have an idea where to start.
Just had this issue in my friends Equinox. You got a sub for the dynamite joke at the beginning. That's the easy fix for most car problems lmao Edit : Just finished the video. Thanks so much for the crystal clear view and great information.
The messag can be displayed because of other reasons as well but ty for this great video of this repair! Very helpful especially to someone such as myself ! !
This really is the fix!!! Another comman problem that happens too is engine hot/ ac off. Just replace thermostat, it's stuck open do not waste time money on sensor!!!
star child chevy dealer did same for my impala, just to have to take back to dealer and have thermostat replaced as i suggested to them from beginning.
I normally don’t sit and watch through the films but you were great not only did you help me show me but kept my interest way to go buddy and I am a blonde that was too funny I will say that to my clients as I’m cutting their hair now thank you again
l got that same light on a 2012 chevy silverado and they couldn’t find the problem or the dealer and but if they found the problem after 3 days it was the computer
I was 5 hours away from home in George Town Kentucky going to fort Wayne Indiana. Power shutting off. Watched this video. Bought parts and tools. Swapped out throttle body in front of an AutoZone . 60 miles down the road now. No problems. You're a life saver !!
Want to comment on this condition, I had a piece of tape (that I used to build up the crankcase ventilation tube) that got sucked up in the intake. It got caught at the throttle plate (LUCKILY), and it was preventing the valve from closing to idle position. I got all kinds of coded and the P1516, triggering the Reduced Engine Power mode. After I removed the tape, everything return to normal - throttle by wire was sent into a tizzy (and the REP probably prevented it from going any further). I was lucky.
I've heard of situations similar to yours. I usually tell people that one of the first things to do is to clean the throttle body. A dirty throttle body is a common problem and one of the easiest things to remedy. Glad yours turned out well.
For my 2013 Buick enclave code p1682, I changed the main fuses box. My car used to shut off while driving. If u have service traction control - reduced engine power without any engine sign or code. Change the accelerator paddle.
My 2004 Silverado will shut nearly everything off while driving sometimes. It will stay running, headlights, and (AC) fan will run, but dash lights, (AC) compressor, radio, etc shut off. A few moments later, it will come back up. Any ideas?
Failure mode on my 88 Silverado was that it would suddenly decide to floor itself! Wheeeee! ;] On the freeway in 5th, no big deal, downtown in 2nd gear things got exciting!
Having this issue right now. Want driving and all of a sudden my check engine light came on and my reduced engine power was on my dash. Thanks for the advice. Will be doing this project tomorrow.
This happened on my 2010 Impala. The check engine, ABS and traction control lights would all come on and reduced power mode would activate. I replaced the entire gas pedal assembly and it fixed it. $80 for the part.
Mac Neoh Same thing happened with mine! I was driving cross country by myself on the highway and it locked up so I couldn't steer. Managed to make it to an autozone and they diagnosed the problem and I had the part installed by my uncle.
Can you tell me the name of the part i need for my car the same thing is going on with my car abs the traction control is on and also the engine reduce lights comes on im a single mom is haard for me to get help especially me paying everything thanks God bless
solo Dios me Puede jusgar, I took my car to O'Reilly's Auto Parts store and had them test it with their code reader. The code came up for the gas pedal position sensor. There are other things that can cause this, so make sure you have the codes read on your car at an auto parts store. They will do this for free. If it is the gas pedal, you will be replacing the entire gas pedal. The tools you will need are; a 10mm ( I think it was a 10mm) socket wrench with a small extension, and a small flathead screwdriver. It will take about 35 minutes and less than $85 for the part to fix. Remove the 2 10mm bolts from the floor of the car that secure the gas pedal, pull the gas pedal out a few inches to get to the wire harness and use the small flathead screwdriver to unclip the wire harness, remove old gas pedal. Put the new gas pedal in in reverse order. It is really easy and they will charge a few hundred for this at the dealership. Again, make sure it is the gas pedal relay sensor by having the codes read at an auto parts store. This is a very common problem with the Impalas and Malibu. I hope this helps you.
First thing. Check to make sure the battery cables are tite, oryour battery is good. If not theses things bet it's something else lol. I had this happen an this was my trouble hope it's as easy for you as this was for me. God bless you and yours my friend's, sorry for the smart ass remark.
You have a great approach about making this repair and funny jokes. I'm going to try cleaning the original TB and see if that works, then I'll invest in the replacement kit. Thanks for this video.
@@alexisgonzalez8676 it was going into limp mode but I used some QD electronic cleaner on the TPS circuit and taped the harness until I bought a new one and it fixed it. But maybe that was luck because I also replaced the TPS not too long after
@tonysand9641 I had to start reading comments,Was i the only one 11:26 who heard it? starting thinking i was going insane, but finally, someone else heard what i did around 11:30 after he kicks his car, hahaaa conveniently turns off the mic at that point to do some narrative work,
I wanna say Thank you ☺️ I greatly appreciate you. You saved me about five hundred plus dollars. I watch your video because this just happened to me yesterday went to a Auto shop and told him this was the problem with my car after the fact he said it was the acceleration...but he did as I had asked him from this video and we are in motion 😁
Like the video and humour with it, sometimes or most of the times I want to throw a dynamite, can't get one. I do believe this method will work on Volvo S60, as I currently have this problem.
So In late January this year I had the exact problem before my road trip then After hours of research I install a new pedal and it works. BUT now end of October having the same problem I wonder if I put another pedal will it work.
In my case, after cleaning the throttle body and running ground wires, the scan tool still gave me 17 codes relating to the TPS, the accelerator sensors, etc. so I knew the problem was not in the throttle body. After checking the wiring harnesses again, I found out a rodent had chewed on two wires going to the control module next to the brake cylinder. It was hard to see but that was it. Fixing those two wires saved me a ton of money.
Had a similar problem with a friends car. Two shops failed to diagnose it. The customer told me she lives in a very rural area so after doing a visual inspection, I found not only a nest but several chewed wires. This is why a thorough visual inspection as your first step is so important. Glad it worked out for you and thanks for watching!
I'm hearing this alot about rodent damage. These little guys are causing us a lot of problems! Especially if you live out in a rural area! Glad it worked out for you.
I hear that some dealerships are struggling with this problem. There seems to be a lot of different things that can cause this. It's easy to fall down that rabbit hole of possible causes. I hope they can solve it for you.@@moonshinesdream
I had the same problem with my 2002 Trailblazer about one year ago. When I was driving on a highway, reduced engine power light came on and it reduced speed to 15 or 20 mph. I pulled over and checked all connectors around throttle body and everything was fine. I was about to call for help when I just disconnected the battery waited for about 10 minutes, connected it back and then everything was fine, I did not do anything else. Like I said, that happened about a year ago and I have not had the problem again. Probably that is what happened to you sir, cause at the beginning you said you disconnected the ground cable from battery. I hope my experience helps somebody.
Most always it is the grond wire on the back of the engine that is the problem. Many many people have this issue just after driving their truck through a high pressure car wash also. This gets water up into places at the connectors that normally stay pretty dry even in big storms but once wet they corrode in no time and shortly after the warning flashes on the screen. In these cases it's not the ground but the connections fusing on the one plug to the throttle body motor.
Very down to real imperfect life...dry but very humorous to me...and is very helpful ....keep it going...you may not have fixed my particular mechanical problem but you still educated me in the right direction and very amusingly so!! Thank you Sir!! Keep it up!!
I think kicking the tire was the most productive part ! Lol. I new a pretty good tech ,but he just vanished off the face of the earth. So I had to watch your video, To learn how to. Repair my vehicles bird socket and squirrel gear . Finally lined up and installed. Thank you for a very informative post. Signed won hung low.
People clean these drive by wire tb’s and mess up the sensors by moving the flap. The correct way to clean them, is to have someone in the vehicle with the key on and press the accelerator pedal all the way down.
I have a 2007 tahoe I install a stick on the seat to the gas pedal to press it down cause I was by my self...I went to look at the throttle n it never open up...any idea why the flap never open?
The real fix is!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Cut the boots off the battery cable ends and clean both sides with sand paper. Cleaning the one side is not enough the lug side is never serviceable unless boot is removed. I just used dielectric grease to cover instead of buying new cables. Also remove the primary cover and shroud around the fuse box under hood. Remove the positive lugs. Most gmc have three 1 from pos battery cable and two smaller ones powering the computer and something else. When you look at them they look good no corrosion but if you look closely it will look Grey. Sand both sides of the ring connector and the lug surface. Overtime no matter where you live air temp and moister slightly oxidize the metal. What happens is one of these powers the pcm and the others send power to vital sensors. Most of the time as long as its not a broke tps wire or if you accidentally stretch while in drivers seat and kick the pedal connection this connection oxidation does not allow the pcm to have a solid constant battery voltage so when the pcm dedicates the 5v reference to the PETAL AND TPS they are varied. Thus eventually the pcm does not allow the key on pretest yes your gmc will tell you reduced power without starting. Turn key on and wait about 10sec and if the pedal/tps agree nothing will display if not it will display reduced engine power. Also if you are having REP while driving add a new ground on drivers side of engine bay from firewall lug to one of the bolts on the bolts on the alternator bracket. Also grounds underneath drivers side frame rail, under radiator support, and the main negative lug on drivers side engine block. Also on the passenger side engine bay there is the pcm ground that comes out of the the big loom on the firewall goes out to the back of engine just like the braided one it is covered in crinkle cover but they are black wires usually two wires. Cut as low as possible bring up and solder one thicker wire estimated at double the gauge of one of the wires so you won’t have resistance problems. Remove the braided ground from firewall and remove one bolt from the third coil pack closest to the rear of engine and attach the braided ground don’t double ground this remove it because you could cause what’s called a looping ground. Electricity goes to path of least resistance. Since the braided line is very hard to remove from rear of engine block attaching the firewall end back to coil pack bolt leaves it null/void and tight so it won’t rub anything else. Also use a ground wire insulated I think it was 15in from parts store $12 for the new firewall to alternator bolt connection. I guess I could have made a video but I’m posting this on comments in various places share if you think it’s a good thing. My Rep problem is solved no tps, pedal, or throttle body replaced I researched this problem for months because I know a shop would just hose me for parts and I think most sensor issues and there lifetime are determined by there power/ground consistency. 2001gmc Yukon slt 260k miles. Good luck guys.
😆😂🤣😂😆👍🏾good video bro. Helpful info, but mine is 2014 GMC. You still made me wanna run out and jump under the hood. I still feel like I can do it. But then there’s that 🤦🏾♂️reset part at the end🤷🏾♂️and taking it to a dealership🤦🏾♂️ Overall, great video bro👍🏾
I had the same problem brought it to the dealer first they said it was my battery terminals 3 days later came back on an come to find out it my gas pedal an the connection to the pedal they replaced the whole pedal for free an haven't had a problem sense an it's been a year or so now.
I have that problem 07 Chevy Impala I pulled out my traction control came on then the engine reduce light came on smh I didn't know what was going on but this is a great video so I know what the problem is now thanks
I have a 2011 imapala. I took care of it when it got recalled. Now about 3 years later it happened again. Only difference is my car didnt shut off on the freeway
In side the black plastic tpi on the throttle body there is a gold colored plate, under that there is a contact plate with 4 contacts, if you look at them with a magnifying glass, 1 is separated. You could possibly solder it back together but its so small .
Good helpful information. Thanks!....... Suggestion: Get either a magnetic camera mount or a tripod for your video camera. Trying to hold the camera with one hand while unbolting an engine assembly with the other hand creates a poor quality video that is difficult to watch.
Betina Rios shutting the car completely off for 2 minutes (when you can pull over somewhere safe) will reset it temporarily. I did this for a couple days until I fixed mine.
