If you have ANY GM with a 3800 3.8L V6 with the "Reduced Engine Power" message, and / or you are getting any of these codes p1125, p2125, p2138 DO NOT REPLACE PARTS until you watch this video! If this video helped you, hit that LIKE button and subscribe! Thanks!
I had the same exact problem because i put an aftermarket air filter on lol couldn't figure it out took it to my mechanic buddy and he took care of it for me
Bought 3 $200 throttle body and 2 brand new gas pedals and still had the same problem...this video helps a lot....we need more GP videos...thanks yu really helped
Thanks, Randy. Just saved me a lot of grief and helped me get my '06 Grand Prix running again, after having it towed home yesterday (reduced engine power). It was two rodent chewed wires, right next to the harness you had problems with. Soldered them back together, and runs great again. Really appreciate the library of videos you've created over all these years.
Just changed crank sensor twice trottlebody twice 02 sensor map sensor twice gas paddle assabley check fuel pressure twice changed plugs and wires watched this vidieo bingo most useful one I watched this year thanks
THANK YOU!!! YOU JUST SAVED ME HOURS OF TROUBLESHOOTING!!! I just replaced the radiator for a friends daughter and moved the air box out of the way to get it out . Started it and immediatly went into Reduced Power Mode. With TPS harness running to the to air box I knew there had to be a broken wire somewhere but Damn.... That's a lot of wires! Soon as I saw the wear on your valve cover, EUREKA! Thanks Again, It would have take me all night to trace. 🍻
Thank you very much. I replaced the the throttle assembly and it didn’t help. I watched your video and that was exactly what was wrong. I had one broken wire and one bare wire. I repaired them and the erased the codes and seems to be fixed now. Thank you!
My 2007 GP GT went into limp mode, reduced engine power/ service traction control. After watching this video, the throttle body or tps was not my first thought as to the culprit although I did clean the throttle body bore and replace the assembly with a known good assembly from my other GP and satisfied my curiosity when it didn't correct the problem. Checking the obvious such as chaffed or broken wires and finding none, a simple pinpoint test led me to the accelerator pedal which I replaced for 125.00 purchased from my local NAPA which corrected the problem. Now if someone can tell what is causing my battery to go dead anywhere from 3 days to 2 plus weeks. A three-year-old battery was replaced at 4 years as it tested bad, 17 days later the car needed a jump. Battery and alternator test good, charge rate at 14.3 to 14.6. 5 days later battery dead again, 2 shops can't find a draw. Have since installed a battery cutoff which is a pain in the ass to deal with.
Randy you should polish those headlights, use mothers aluminum polish it works soooo good and takes less than 10 minutes. No sanding the lights or anything it's so easy I could do it in my sleep and genuinely makes the headlights look new
Ur better off taking them headlights off. Than start to do some light wet sanding by hand or da. You can either use 600,1000,1200,1500,2000 & 3000 sandpaper. Depending on how bad they are. and than spray clear coat. Once clear coat is applied you won't ever have the headlights turning yellow and have them looking brand new.
Wow, great advice. I have a 2004 Buick LeSabre with the same 3.8 V6. Tomorrow I will check my car to make sure that doesn't happen to me. Keep up with the videos.
Great work. A simple design oversight can cause a major problem. The solution was quite ingenious, as you used the correct material for a similar task.
I have 2006 and my motor you can eat off of that is way this wiring went out , so clean that motor and take care of your vehicles no matter what make it is and they will last , but good find well done 👍
Finally got around to checking out the second channel. Liking the content so far Hate that you started replacing parts before diagnosis but the education was well worth the money spent. And you now have a running car for less around 500 bucks. Now time to clean it, put it up for sale, and get back to copart for the next diamond in the rough
Hey bro you ARE THE MAN!! You are a God send. I've been goin through hell trying to figure out what was wrong with my 07 lacrosse.. Although I ran across your video 1 day and $438 bucks to late.. I keep tape and wire on hand constantly.. I replaced the throttle body for nil.. and after doing just what you did I can say PROBLEM SOLVED.. THANK YOU.
Mine 2006 gives me the reduced engine power every now and then. I checked that exact location, and it has that burn on the valve cover and exposed wires. Im betting that is it. Thanks!!!!!
I replace the throttle body and the pedal sensor check these wires And they were good but still had an issue , turns out it was the plug on the passenger side of the engine bay that connects the throttle response to the pedal sensor. Had excessive corrosion and electrical resistance was high mechanic cleaned it up and used a bunch of dielectric grease and she’s smooth sail on now invade anyone else as stumped
You can have mine... I didn’t want to sell it because I loved how it drove... but my SO bought me an suv and the cars been sitting there.. I tried taking it for a drive and it started up beautifully but nothing happens when the accelerator is pressed 😞
Doing this now....saw this video while getting a price on a new throttle body - YIKES!!!! Hopefully I have the same fix.... digging in now...I'll report back 👍🧐
Great catch Randy! At least you didn't spend a ton of money trying to fix this. Didn't know you had a second channel on RU-vid. Thanks for the heads up. Now subscribed here as well!
Not sure if this will be seen but I replaced throttle body and pedal as well as checked most of the wiring (what I can all get easy access to) and everything looks fine. So now I'm stuck and don't know where to go from here. I'm not sure if there is more wiring that I need to somehow get to that isn't as easy.
Awesome job Randy. I watch every video from the Bahamas. I'm wondering if you ever see my comments. Great content with regular cars that the average man may come across. P.s. no Carnage lol. Takes up time for fixable car showcases lol
My car is flashing those codes. Sometimes only p1125 and p2138 and then sometimes also p2125 with those other two. Haven’t had it for long. Looked at harness and it looks like someone had already put a piece of hydraulic hose under wires in that spot. I need a continuity tester
Dude thank you so much! My harness has the same damn cut with the same dang exposed wires! Worst part is the issue started the second I bought it. Before I could get it home it died on me, then let me start the car(roughly). Dudes have been dodging me as well unfortunately *Edit: I did this to fix the two busted cables I had on my wiring harness and it still died on me for some reason I can’t understand
