This is so ironic and sad. Just like his character in the sitcom, Community, Chevy felt he’s the outsider and always left out by the group. He just wants to be like and to belong.

Chevy HAS to be in the Community movie. There's no way Pierce is above faking his death. Haha

Don’t get me wrong, I’ve got my opinions about Chevy and know the stories, but this reporter is awful. He’s not bringing anything new and making his interviewee feel isolated rather than actually exploring who he is.

"I don't want to see it. It'll just hurt. I don't want to see it." What the hell was this interview? This wasn't enjoyable or illuminating at all. Leave the poor guy alone

He’s human, he’s not an untouchable perfect sweetheart actor. This interviewer portrayed him as only an actor. “They’re focused and obsessed with his reputation as a villain.” Thats literally what the interviewer did this entire story.

This interview is absolutely horrendous! Whatever Chevy Chase may or may not be, he invited you into his home only for you to antagonize him, remind him how others think negatively of him, and overlay the entire segment with the most degrading narration possible. This is exactly how you turn any human being into an arsehole -- by pushing them further and further into isolation, giving them no choice but to become the most extreme version of what they believe others already perceive them to be. I honestly feel terrible for Chevy just watching this. You exploited him in the worst way. Just disgraceful!

Watching Community, you'd never know he didn't like his part being written the way it was. He knocked it out of the park every time. I've watched interviews with McHale and he is incredibly careful with his words on Chevy. I think McHale thinks Chevy has some valid points about how his part was written but doesn't want to upset Harmon either.

This interviewer was obviously trying to make Chevy Chase look old and petty, but to me the interviewer was the one who looked petty.

He's had no support in his later years. He just seems dejected. Chevy should be seen as national treasure for all the films he did. I'll always consider him a comedy genius on screen.

The interviewers approach was terrible and one sided. He went in hard.

"You're not funny. You're okay." is somewhat along the lines of what Bill Murray said about Chevy when they were on SNL (medium talent). I think that stayed with him for all these years.

Honestly Chevy just seems like a hurt man. And I hope he feels better soon.

What am I watching? Why is he being portrayed as an evil guy or a victim? Just leave him alone or mix in some positive stuff too. It can't all be this gloomy.

I’m still a Chevy Chase fan.

Many years ago my grandmother was at a doctor's appointment at a famous hospital in Los Angles and I was with my father waiting for her in the waiting room. I noticed a guy walk into the room from the outside hall, and sat down right next to another man. It caught my attention because we were the only people waiting, there were plenty of seats so it was odd for someone to choose a seat right next to someone else. Then the guy took his hand and put it on the guys knee and started moving his hand up his thigh. The guy waiting jumped up suprised and realized it was Chevy Chase, Chevy glanced at me and had a sly smile on his face, and I was laughing pretty hard. I never spoke to him, but it was better then that, he performed for me, at a time when I was concerned and sad about the health of a love one. I will always be grateful to Chevy Chase for cheering me up. I will always remember that.

Pierce is hands down my favorite character in Community, this guy is a legend.

It’s kinda heartbreaking seeing something like this. All these big new names felt fine kicking around a broken old guy, who really did revolutionize comedy. Old people get grouchy, and sometimes you just have to deal with it. Posting the voicemail for thousands to see after you mock him? That’s just horribly insensitive.

I don't like Chevy but God this is such a mean interview; I genuinely feel bad for him here.

He had a few rough years, but it's hard to come back when people only want to see you fail so they can get a exclusive interview or something. He went to rehab at 73yrs old and let me tell you as a long time alcoholic I took a lesson from this man. If he was still boozing and unhappy about it at that age, I wasn't going to do all the heavy lifting of quitting, and rehab and detox, JUST to tell myself that "When I'm old and retired I'll go back to drinking alcohol.'' Seriously this guy's downfall at that age, helped me stay sober.👍

Someone here recommended the recent Netflix interview with Norm MacDonald interviewing Chevy Chase. I totally recommend that one. Chevy Chase was hilarious in it and it's a much much much better interview than this in my opinion. This interview was basically looking at the sad things that have happened to him. While sad, it was certainly a one sided interview and it didn't look at all aspects of his career. The Norm MacDonald interview certainly shows Chevy in true form. He's relaxed, he's in a great mood, he's funny, and Norm asks him all sorts of questions on his amazing career. After watching that, it's very very very clear to see that Chevy has had wayyyyy more positive times that bad ones.

This is sad to me. I’m 46 years old, I grew up watching Chase. Chase is a big part of my childhood, just like Robin Williams was and Star Wars and other 80 icon films and actors. I will always love Chase and he will always make me smile. It’s sad to see him having so much difficulty in his later years, even if some of these difficulties may be self brought.

From 1975 to 1989 he was THE MAN! His star fell after that, but I'll always be a fan. He more than paid his dues and has made MILLIONS of people laugh over the years and for that, I thank you Chevy.

I love Chevy Chase. He’s still one of my favourites and I was born in 85’ and still find his movies funny. Not everyone is perfect so what. And people get too serious these days. People should relax and learn to laugh at themselves and be comfortable. I hope Chevy knows there’s still many many fans old and new that still love him. Keep being you Chevy xxx

Chevy Chase is part of that cast that once made Saturday Night Live the best on TV. I hope he gets a chance to make another great movie or appearance.

I like this from an article earlier this year: Speaking to The New Yorker about his time on Community, Glover said he viewed Chase as a legend who refused to recognize he was at the nadir of his career. “I just saw Chevy as fighting time - a true artist has to be O.K. with his reign being over,” Glover said. “I can’t help him if he’s thrashing in the water. But I know there’s a human in there somewhere-he’s almost too human.” Alot people have a hard time having multiple viewpoints on one subject, one person because they don't perfectly match our ideological preferences. We don't have to make up excuses for Chase to understand he is a genius, and understand the man is also angry, borderline hateful.

I will always have big love for Chevy Chase as i grew up watching his films & he's a childhood hero of mine & his hilarious films have gotten me through some hard times, a true comic legend

No matter what, I will always love and respect Chevy Chase! He may have an ego and temperamental issues, but I know he's not a perfect person. He is a hilarious comedic actor and a tremendous staple of my childhood. ~Dutch

Say what you will, but he will always be one of the greats! His unique approach to comedy has influenced so many of today's comedic actors.

What Chevy doesn't get is that people want to love him. It's not that they're jealous. It's that the reality is just such a disappointment. Of course, that could be said of a lot of Legends. Don't meet your heroes, right? That's definitely something he could fix if he really wanted to. He just needs to get over the fact that he's Chevy.
