So, to help anyone else that has this problem I'll let you know that some cobalts just straight up don't have a fuel filter. So if you're looking and very puzzled like I was... That's why you can't find it. It just doesn't exist. This video is great and helpful for any of you that do have one though.
thanks man, im in the middle of replacing my whole fuel tank and pump, damn everything on that tank is molded in place, and my return line snapped in a very minor accident. figured might as well replace the fuel filter while im under the car, and i got a napa filter and was really confused with the little plastic clip.
Thanks for the procedure. The problem is (in your case, i guess you are lucky) when the gas lines are so rusted that you cannot remove the filter on the side with one inlet. I have the same tool and it doesn't push the tabs to release the filter. It was so rusted that the 10mm bolt that holds the bracket snapped when removing. I sprayed PB blaster, compressed air and pushed so fucking hard on it without any release. They should of put those plastic clips on all three fittings. FYI for all trying this with rust...
I had one that was pretty rusty too and hard a hard time getting the clips to release also but I just kept messing with it and moving the tool around until I got it to release it. Also be very careful the lines on the gas tank can break right at the fuel pump and the hard plastic part of the pump is not repairable so they make it so you have to replace the entire fuel pump. Gotta love the engineer on these cars (NOT) .

The old did not have the plastic part from the tank. The replacement had a piece of plastic and somehow you left out even a video shot if you used the plastic on The replacement.
J G most likely the fuel line is rusted and leaking. I just fixed a cobalt last weekend that had the same problem. I cut out the rusted section and replaced it with a rubber hose and clamps.
Check your throttle body it may need to be cleaned... I'm not an expert or anything I'm just taking a guess... but I have a 09 cobalt also 2.2L 196k miles still runs like a champ all the poor reviews on this car and I love it
Mine was doing that it was the throttle body needed cleaning it's not difficult to do either just need rags a screw driver and throttle body cleaner which cost like $5
can someone explain to me what the two lines coming out of one end of the canister mean besides on the other end there's only one what are the two lines do each please and thanks!!!
My car is pretty rusty and the bolt on the bracket broke off In half.. do I need to have the bracket on there or can I just superglue the bracket on there (I don’t plan to have the car long enough to need to change it again)
