Very complete, step by step video. Anyone making a how to repair video should use this as a guide. About half of the repair videos on You tube are worthless or nearly so. Thanks, cheers
Buddy your video defiantly made the difference for me. I got stranded in Chicago in a whole foods parking lot. My fuel pump went out. I knew right away I was in for a treat. Luckily I travel with told and a floor jack. But I changed that sucker myself. Took me about 5 hours. The biggest issues I had were the plastic pressure fittings with the buttons. Those things suck. Took everything I had in me to get them to come off. Anyways I really appreciate the video.
I always have a 4 ton floor jack, bottle jack, two jack stands and tool box full of wrenches, sockets, adapters etc. My wife absolutely hates it because it takes up around half my trunk space, but driving old junker cars comes with plenty of downsides lol. Having all that stuff on hand has saved me thousands of dollars in tow truck fees alone, not to mention all the time I've saved.
@@mikekano on rockauto you have to buy the pzev filter system. Then you also have to buy the fuel pump, because it's dumb to do all this work and not replace the pump. After you drop the tank and open it up you'll see a platform inside the tank that holds all of the elements. It's pretty straight forward, but reaching in and manipulating everything through the tank port hole was terrible. That said, the pzev system is supposed to last the life of the car. It also has a really long warranty so it might be worth calling gm if you have an issue. I wanted the experience, so I just did it. I had intermittent fuel delivery issues.
@@mcm4859 God bless you. I found out I have that pzev stuff once i had the tank off. The cables and connectors were burned inside the tank wich freaked me out thinking it could have caught fire. Anyways, thanks for responding I'll get those parts tomorrow.
Fuel pump for my cobalt 08 is different from the one you installing. I purchased a few pump that you have in the video because that’s what the auto parts store told me I needed, but upon removing the gas tank the fuel pump was small cylindrical with a green filter
Only thing I question is disconnecting the hot side of the battery. As long as that battery is grounded you risk cross arc. I was shown to do this differently to also prevent possible damage to on board modules and computers.
Great Video! Very helpful. As suggested in other comments, disconnect the negative of the battery. Other than that, made my fuel pump change a breeze! Thanks Man!
@@williammorris3303 honestly it only took an hour or so to switch the fuel pump out myself. But next time if it happens again while it's out I'll end up putting an access panel in. Hopefully there isn't a next time though
@@williammorris3303 just make sure if you do make it big enough to pull the fuel line out with the pump. It's kinda tight between the tank and floor but as long as you get the old pump and lines out you can probably feed the fuel lines in with the pump upside the rotate it all to drop the pump in the tank. If that makes sense. Not sure how the pump failed in your car. But mine probably was just the fuel lines being broken at the fuel pump. We had the dealer do it since it was under warranty but they broke plastic parts off the base of the pump trying to seat it fully. 2nd pump I did and couldn't tell if it was the lines or the pump that failed.
You never mentioned what years and models this is good for... Even just knowing the specific year and model of this vehicle would be good info to know.
Hey mine is a cobalt SS turbo, the exhaust pipe goes over one portion of the tank, does the exhaust need to come down first? I couldnt tell if the car in the video had the same issue.
What part of the fuel tank would cause a negative 3.5 presure in the fuel tank? It reads .37 at start up. Driving down the road, it decreased to -3.5 and maybe more. Is there a venting issue. I can get the presure vent solenoid to actuate. At least i hear it clicking? Help...
I have a 2009 Chevy cobalt the relay to the fuel pump doesn't kick in.. but if I compress the contact myself and hold it down the fuel pump will kick on and continue to run u till I separate the contact to relay
Not looking forward to this, seems a lot mroe irritating than a lot of other makes/models. I already feel a ball of anger in my throat lmao. Thnks for the in deoth instructions, this video will definitely be my saving grace.

@@trabadix engineers know they screw techs and mechanics over. They're usually held back by financial constraints for the project in question. From what I've heard.
So I broke the white buttons on the gas lines when I replaced mine. Any tips would be helpful because now my gar always smells like gas and the the engine keeps misfiring.
i have an 08 Cobalt Lt and when i took out the fuel pump it looks completely different from the one you show or even the ones i can buy i need some help please and thank you
Yo do you know the name of the part on the right side of the pump? I ended breaking off the line to the small white piece and no one here can think of what it is called. Thanks. Much appreciated.
Ok...I replaced the fuel pump twice in my cobalt...the fuel line keeps breaking at the pump...can you replace the line without replacing the pump or put stainless steel lines on it
