Walt, I added the Rough Country 2 inch kit. I think the sku was 922 but I may be wrong. It states it would not fit the ZR2 & they are partly correct. The kit has 2 primary components, a spacer for the top of the assembly and a ring spacer that requires spring removal It is supposed to slide over the shock body. After renting the big tool at AutoZone I removed the driver's side & disassembled everything. The round ring spacer was designed to slide over the shock body & sit below the lower spring mount thus adding some lift. Rough Country is correct in that this part of the kit will NOT work. The DSSV's diameter is too large. I reassembled the strut (taking care to align the spring perch properly) & proceeded with the spacer at the top. Not sure of the thickness but I also had a momentary concern before continuing. After tightening all 3 bolts I was satisfied that they would hold. I have about 60k miles since the install. No torn boots, no issues. Had a bit of a challenge with alignment at the dealer. After spending 3 hours on it the tech claimed he could not adjust caster within spec. I had a couple of discusdions with the service advisor reminding him that GM also sells essentially the same spacer kit that I installed & asked if there were any alignment bulletins on it? He said no. I asked for a different tech to finish the job. It was about 1.5 hrs before close & he said it would be the next day before they wrapped up. I was not happy. They gave me a "courtesy" ride home. I received a call from the service advisor about 30 minutes later stating it was done & asking me to come get it. I replied that I would be there as fast as the courtesy driver arrived. Supposedly they had to remove/ "reposition" the strut to get everything to line up. Hard to buy this because the 2 bolts at the bottom & 3 at the top have only one place to go but I suppose there may be a SLIGHT amount of wiggle room. Anyway, it drives good, tire wear is excellent on BFG 285 70 17s and all seems well.
Hey Phil I didn't know that you had the newer ZR2 as well? Yeah even if I go get different nuts with the nylon on top I still don't feel comfortable with it that spacers about 3/4 of an inch or damn close I think rough country is 1 in is only 5/8 I'm not positive.
So I actually went and got different neoprene nuts and shaved down the spacers a little bit on a lathe at work. Then didy alignment while I was there too. So far so good for the last 2 months.
I had my doubts about this kit I was trying to get the maximum lift out of a spacer I should have known better guys I would stick with the one inch spacer and 1 in coil spacer but you'll have to rent a tool to do that!
