There’s a guy who designed a “ kit “ for this fix. I think he does some RU-vid videos under the name Dre Dan??? He has a link to the PVC fix kit in the description on one of his videos. My “ issue “ is that I live in Canada so getting some stuff from the USA is harder. It’s puzzling to me that GM has an engine produced from around 2011-2019 that has such a common issue and no one has sued them or they haven’t provided a fix under a “ Bulletin “ to fix this. Then there’s the almost 100% of vehicles problems with the oil feed line to the turbo gumming up because of the heat from the exhaust manifold which results in turbo failure. At least that one is a relatively easy fix. The other pretty much 100% problem is the leaking from the coolant line to turbo that has a partial rubber section that leaks after a few years. All these issues could have been fixed by GM between 20011-2019 with very little effort.
@jungleking007Channel
@jungleking007Channel 8 месяцев назад
Yep Andrei runs the Dre Dan channel. He's been very active in the Cruze community coming up with a variety of repairs, modifications, and tools to maintain these vehicles. I believe there are multiple bulletins out there addressing the issues, but no recalls since GM provided a fix of thier own. Unfortunately this "fix" is to throw parts at the car and hope it sticks long enough for the customer to trade in. Sad really, nice cars but they aren't built to last anymore

@meso281

The reason it fails is because of the intake manifold its messing the plastic check vavle. Doorman did a video on why the valve cover fails. They sell a OEM fix (intake manifold) that will keep the vavle cover (pcv) from popping. I replaced mines and have not replace once since then almost 2 years now. But im sure the cover will get old and need replacing one day again but so far so good.

@@jungleking007Channel Question, I'm guessing if I hear hissing from the intake manifold that means the PCV has failed, correct? And if that's the case, should I replace the valve cover, also? I just replaced this in my 2012 cruze the other day and the 2 holes in the timing chain cover are stripped. Was told the only thing I can do is to replace the whole timing chain cover, otherwise it will continue to leak oil because the bolts won't tighten down,
@JOHNHOOK1966
@JOHNHOOK1966 4 года назад
I had the same issue with my 2014 Cruze camshaft cover. The three holes on the left side (near timing chain) were stripped and couldn't be torqued down. I purchased 50MM M6 bolts 8.8 grade from Home Depot, pulled the black sleeves out of the cover that were around the 3 existing bolts and replaced them with the new / longer M6 bolts and it worked like a charm. The holes / threading go deaper than the GM provided bolts so if you get longer ones, you can tighten it down with no problems. I blame the last mechanic who replaced that camshaft cover. They used power tools instead of hand tools to tighten those bolts and stripped the inside threading. Hope this helps anyone who is having this same issue.

You can use helicoils to fix the problem, M10 I believe. For ~$30, the Fix-A-Thread kit at auto parts store comes with everything except the drill bit. I used a 1/4 in this application. Once done, just make sure you don't torque those bolts no more than the 71 in/lbs called for in the book.

This is why the 1.4-turbo failed, because people ignore the symptoms. Got the '12 Sonic 1.8-NA, 91k, no recalls no issues, doesn't even seep oil. In fact, the brakes and AC are factory original.

I think this process would be a nightmare on a Sonic because the engine bay is smaller and the intake manifold sits much closer to the firewall, partially under the back of the engine bay opening.

I heard a crazy solution to these engines from a turkish guy: replacing the thermostat with a lower temperature one. This engine is working in much higher temp. than usual cars therefore comes up most of the problems..what do you think about this solution?
@jungleking007Channel
@jungleking007Channel 8 месяцев назад
Normally running an engine at a warmer temperature helps with fuel efficiency. that is why these sit around 200f and the ECU is typically programed around these stock parameters. Running a cooler Thermostat might have negligible results if only a few degrees difference, but swinging 10+ degrees might yield a reduction in engine performance. I haven't been one to experiment too much with my car at the moment since its my only Daily.

I don't know how to remove the tubes below the intake manifold. My hands don't reach me. There is also a white tie attached to the manifold and I don't know how to remove it. I can't get the manifold out because of this! The manifold is half removed and I no longer know how to do it. Any ideas?

Hello, I have a question about what this friend puts between the manifold and the throttle, I mainly mean the metal one with four screws that holds it in place because I don't know how to enter it to buy and install it.
@greenrumour
@greenrumour 2 года назад
I did this mod and dont like the connection with the rubber gasket at the manifold there is no actual seal between either the outer brass fitting and washer or the inner brass bolt and its washer only between the inner washer and the manifold so i opted to add a small amount of rtv between all components. Also the fact that the new pcv or check valve now lives under the manifold it is not easily serviceable it might be considered to flip the throttle body adapter and run a longer hose up through the manifold so the check valve lives on top and could be replaced. I used the kit that tee's into the upper tube and didnt use the throttle body adapter but the same applies i wish i had added another barb not included in my kit and located the check above the manifold.

Does anyone else have a "Chevy cruze tools only" section in the toolbox? Out of all the trouble this car has given me I can only think "Why does this code mean it could be this, or this, or this, or this BUT THEN there is something else it could be that as nothing to do with with the entire system the others did?" like a misfire, Okay it can be a dirty injector, a bad coil pack, a bad piston ring, a broke piston, pcv bad, bad ground wire from the battery, the BREAK PEDDLE POSITION SWITCH.

My Chev Cruz LT 2014 none turbo is crunkling but not starting. What could be the problem?
@Tomas.X
@Tomas.X 2 года назад
Question: My son's 2015 Chevy Sonic LTZ has this engine, and we got the damn P0299 code (low boost). This happened in 2020, as well, just four weeks after we bought the car, and we had to replace the turbocharger. I am doubting (and obviously praying) it is not the turbo again 7,000 miles later, but it's a vacuum leak within the system. In looking into this I have found LOADS of info on these PCV problems/leaks. So I'm wondering if anyone has had PCV system leaks and had experienced a P0299 DTC. I had a few hours with the car today and this DTC is in the system as a Pending and Permanent code. Clearing it turns the light out, but the permanent code remains. I test drove it - short and long - including a few hard accelerations - and it felt and sounded good, though I do believe it should feel stronger. The problem happened when my son was coming home last night and he said there was a huge loss in acceleration after 35-40 mph. I believe whatever the problem is - a leak most likely - it's small because the symptoms are minimal.

I wonder what chcek valve he used - i did similar thing in Genesis coupe 2.0 Different issue but PCV system some similarities - problem is the opening force for my chcek valve was to high (it had default closed state) and it caused rpm fluctuations For the love of good i could not find an air chcek valve that would be default 'open' with very low 'closing' force

Youre over complicating the entire thing. Just plug the original PCV hole, drill a hole in the valve cover, install a PCV valve, and route it in front of the turbo.

It's turbo then you will create a vacuum leak so use the original pcv route but with a bypass to your catch can and use one without the breather on top or you will lose pressure

@@Dewydewdirt Being NA or turbo has nothing to do with the PCV valve.

Currently modding the mod to shave down brass nut that comes with the kit as it's about 1/16 too wide for the opening. Kinda frustrating. Really happy there's a fix, but watching you knstall with ease and having to fight something that's already been a royal pain in the ass is not helping. Taking a screwdriver to the inner plastic to remove a bit is not an option. Thank God for the vice and the belt sander with 80 grit sand belt that I already had.

He still offers the version in this video, but I can't speak for the most current design. Reviews state it's not very difficult to install and so far little to no issues. I'd check out his website for more details. Thanks!
