Video was well done. I thought from the looks of things (without a shop manual) I was going to have to raise the engine to do this job, because all the components looked impossible to work around. Thank you for demonstrating how easy it really is.
when starting the flare nut turn it backwards while pushing down, when you feel the slight drop stop and turn it forward. do not apply a wrench till you have it at least 2 turns in and yes wiggling the line while turning helps ALOT!
Awesome video. Going to replace my son's pressure line this evening. It's already on the lift and I also have a frame post support. You gave me all the info I need (hopefully!)
I did it! It's not killer. It is a pain in the butt but I got it done. I took the air filter out and removed it from the throttle body, that allowed room to reach for the atached high pressure hose to remove the fastener. 18mm short wrench! . Then I removed the pump, then the antifreeze reservoir, removed my belt it was covered in steering fluid. Once all connections were removed I went underneath. I almost got it out without removing subframe I needed 2 more inches ugh. Cracked out the breaker bar with a 21 mm socket. I used a screw up screw down jack (typical ones in the trunk by the spare). I used that to lower/raise subframe. I didn't want to use a hydraulic jack not much room and I felt the control was better with the scissor jack. All in all it went extremely well. I'm a little sore and stiff but it's all good.
It's always nice to see someone who make a simple to the point video. Thank you. So many people talk about thier dogs and what they had for dinner and other bs. Again...thanks
i did this job with a floor hack and stands . i removed the air cleaner housing and was able to remove the pressure line but to the rack from the top and reinstalled the same was . with no left it is difficult to remove the line/ pipe assembly but it can be done from the ground jacked up.
Yes that was easier then the way I did it . My problem was I didn't drop the a frame so I didn't have the room to work you made it so much easier. Great video thanks .
a 15mm and 18mm 5 sided FLARE nut wrench is well worth the money! These high pressure line nuts (called flare nuts) round off if you look at them funny. A set of flare nut wrenches can be found for about $20 and is worth twice the money easily!!!!
Good video. Very informative. Say that you don't have a lift. I suppose lowering the subframe becomes a bit of an impossibility? Do you have a video on how to change the power steering line without a lift?
Update: Tried it on a parking lot. Put your jacks on the frame and high enough for you to go under completely. Then you can easily raise the subframe with a small list jack. Note if you have a cheap jack, it will try to roll back lol. Hardest thing so far is aligning the line on the steering gear, its an 18mm but for some reason any way i tried connecting it, the line would begin to bend or the nut looked crooked. Going retry tomorrow
Yes. I just did another one recently. If you remove the air filter box, you can gain access to the lines where they connect to the rack from the top. It’s tight but possible.
When you did the method where you removed the air filter box what kind of tool(s) did you use to loosen the line nut? It's a really tight spot & I can't get a regular 18 metric wrench on the line nut, I thought about trying a 18 metric crow's foot wrench piece & seeing if that'll work.
I did it without a hoist !!! I used 2 saftey stands at max hieght It's not too killer. It is a pain in the butt dont get me wrong, but I got it done. I took the air filter out and removed it from the throttle body, that allowed room to reach for the atached high pressure hose to remove the fastener. 18mm short wrench! . It's a 17mm under the steering pump. When raising subframe back up make sure you torque the bolts to 92ft lbs All in all it went extremely well. I'm a little sore and stiff but it's all good
Listen people gotta relax just because he has a lift. Look as a mechanic especially hood mechanic we learned from country and hispanic mechanics who taught us how to properly read the manual and not only find "anchor points" on a frame man. Jack the damn frame up and get some damn 3 tons or 4tons jack stands and youll be fine trust me. Personally though I would of just attached a $60.00 harbor freight engine support bar! Support thr engine jack the dang car up and lower it on the anchor point of the frame with some wood underneath those stands hell use even two stands per side for my safety, support the engine underneath as well with a jack and drop that frame
Sounds like air is trapped in your system. Drive it for a few days. If it still wines, jacks up the front tires. Without starting the engine, turn the steering wheel from lock to lock. Remove the power steering cap first. You’ll hear the air bubbles escaping.
How would you know if its the pressure hose or the actual pump because my pump has fluid in it but it's still whines really bad and the wheel is super stiff
Had me all the way up until you started working under the car. The “average joe” doesn’t have a lift conveniently sitting at home, lol. Learned some thing’s, but now off to find another video
I’m sorry that you were disappointed with the free video of me showing you how to do a specific repair due to the fact that I’ve personally invested in a couple hoists for my shop to make MY work flow better. How selfish of me to do such a thing! I will refund you the money you spent to watch my useless video. My apologies sir.

Wish you listed the year before I started to watch. I'm looking to replace the power steering hoses on a 1994 to 1996 Chevy Impala or Chevy Caprice or Buick Roadmaster or in my case a 1994 to 1996 Cadillac Fleetwood Brougham. Basically the same setup as the other vehicles listed.
@@Tomsfoolery. how much would yall have charged for a job like this ? Curious bc a shop quoted me 750+ and 3 hr labor I'm just tryna make sure im not being taken for a ride
Question for those that have done this repair. I did this repair over the weekend and after doing the repair I notice that my alignment is off. Anyone else experience this?
Changing a power steering line can not change the alignment of the vehicle. Shake down your front tires while they are up off the ground. You might have worn loose ball joints or tie rods.
@@glenbrown4441 You make $80k a year ? I make more than triple that in a day, but $80k a year is probably all youre worth and youre getting over paid. Bahahahahaa 🤣 LOSER
