Nice video thank you for showing us what's up. If you can hold the spring and the cap in a set of pliers, push against the pin in the back with your finger, you can press the cap and spring down aiming for pin slot, as soon as you make the pin hole give the cap a little turn. Seems to give more control of cap and spring. Hope it helps.

I actually tried that and I couldn't put enough spin on it. But for anyone in the comments if you try this most times it works really good.

Pull the rear wheel hub off before removing the brake shoe components. This will make the job 100 times easier. Buy/ rent or borrow yourself some brake spring pliers and a brake clip tool. This will greatly reduce the possibility of clips and springs flying into the abis or slipping causing skinned knuckles. When replacing hub, set axle bearing pre load to spec.

Great video, helping a lot as I get ready to try this on my daughters car. Did the new pads come with the parking brake lever already installed (as shown in the video), or did you buy a new lever, bolts and clips and install them on the new pads? Same for the adjuster lever - did the bolt already come preinstalled in your pads as you show in the video? If not, do you have the GM part numbers for those bolts and clips? Thanks in advance.

How did you Jack the car up from the rear at once, I have a sonic sedan
@RspecNick
@RspecNick Год назад
You can do it with a jack and a 2 jackstands. Lift one side place a jackstand under it and then move to the other side and do the same thing.
@ramennoodlesv4139
@ramennoodlesv4139 Год назад
Today I tried jacking it up from the subframe and it slipped on me, so then I rewatched your video multiple times and I was curious how you did it, because I didn’t think you could put one Jack on one side drop it and then do it on the other side
@RspecNick
@RspecNick Год назад
@@ramennoodlesv4139 yea I wouldn't trusted that method. If your a manual put it in gear and block the tires so it doesn't roll. The back when you do that watch when you lift it up I've had it happen before where the side with the jackstand will try to walk off the stand while jacking it from the opposite side

I have an automatic, so when I tried using the rear subframe it slipped off just a bit I had an idea of using a 2x4 in between so it would support it a lot better but didn’t try it bc I honestly got shaken up by the whole car almost falling on me, I honestly don’t want to take the chance of the Jack stand walking off on me either, do you recommend me using a 2x4 as the contact point before the floor jack on the rear subframe?
@RspecNick
@RspecNick Год назад
@@ramennoodlesv4139 I honestly have never tried that because I've heard of wood cracking under vehicle weight so I never attempted it

why did you replace the rear shoes, looks like they still have a ton of meat left .. theres a tool for the springs that hold the shoes to the back plate, and the return spring, invest in one it will make your life much easier and prevent puncturing a hole to your finger if you ever slip.... No brake lube on the backing plate to shoe contact point and adjuster?
@RspecNick
@RspecNick 5 лет назад
I just wanted to replace them at the same time that way it was all new and yes I know about that tool but I just do it that way and I've never used that lube and never ran into any problems same with my last couple cars

Great video! Should I do front and back breaks at the same time or to the drum breaks last longer than the front? I have a 15 sonic
@RspecNick
@RspecNick 6 лет назад
Typically drums last longer but if you don't mind spending the alittle extra money you can replace them at equal lengths

I did my front brakes a few months ago and now I am doing the rear ones. In between, I did an alternator and serpentine belt replacement, a timing belt/water pump and tensioner/idler rollers replacement. The next project is the A/C not working. I use your videos to fix my Inferno Orange Sonic, just like the one in this video.

The adjuster for the drum probably is way off put the car in reverse and pull up on the emergency brake when going backwards then stop release the the E brake and repeat it should adjust it's self only going backwards and grabbing the E brake I did it a couple of times till it re adjusted to the new brakes

@@RspecNick Hey brother thanks for the video I successfuly changed the brakes with it. How many times shoudl you have to pull the ebrake in reverse for it to adjust? I've been driving for a few days and pulled the ebrake in a reverse maybe 5 times but shes still seems to not be adjusted.

@@GyroAim639 normally after a few times it should adjust unless it was way way off.
