CHIANG MAI, THAILAND , THE HIDDEN VILLAGE A PLACE HERE YOU WOULD NOT SEE

Unseen Thailand In Chiang Mai

Chiang Mai Thailand , Outside the Old City Moat Chang Phuak . Just north of the moat located on 107 is a hidden village built over the Klong within the city. It stretches and winds about 1.2 kilometers under bridges . Many people do there daily activities and live close to each other. I was amazed at the friendliness of everyone I met .. I m pretty confident in saying I might be the only foreigner to see this place .

You might have some luck checking east of the Sports College (Sanam Gila) on Rattanakosin Road immediately east of Charoen Motors Mercedes Benz dealership. There's a canal there, too. And maybe even better would be the canal farther east on the same road (Rattanakosin), just after the stoplight. You can walk north along that canal for some similar accommodations.

I have many Thai friends that live in Chiang Mai, and I've traveled there many many times. In my opinion, this village/community has got to be one of the most beautiful and true Thai living areas in Chiang Mai. I'm from the U.S and wouldn't hesitate to live in a community like this, or any rural areas as well. What a great experience that would be! I'd love to check this little spot out when I come back in October. Very cool video, thanks for sharing. 👍

This is the best part of Chiang Mai, and unlike most tourists, I'd happily stay in one of these hidden gem villages, away from the tourists, and hustle and bustle of the city, I like Thai home cooked food, not the usual restaurant stuff aimed at tourists, or as we're known there... foreng, unless of course like me, you've been 4 times in one year, and one of those being a 4 month stay, I'm virtually honorary Thai, and have many Thai friends, probably more friends there than here in UK 😊

What is impressive is how clean of trash and debris the walk was. Sure there was a couple locations where the residents have moved on that could be cleaned up a little. These people don't have much but they have pride in where they live. I challenge you to find an inner city neighborhood without road and sidewalk trash debris or tags of graffiti. Heck! In San Francisco and other liberal run cities they are defecating on the streets and it's legal. That was a nice walk.....
@UTCM
@UTCM 3 года назад
Thanks ! Yes for the most part Thai people take care of there neighborhood , you ll see them out sweeping the streets and picking up . The only place I didnt see this was my 3 months in Hua Hin ...
@พรสวรรค์ปทุมซ้าย-ผ7ค
Really?...I live here and never cease to be amazed at how little regard Thais have for their local environment.Maybe this comes the fact that the government has absolutely no idea on what to do with the ever growing mountains of trash. Having said that It's way better than Cambodia...😦😠😦

Where you came out near Godzilla’s and the temple was one street I regularly walked back to my place in Santitham. Yes always felt safe in Chiang Mai any time of day or night. Just have to watch the traffic. Miss the Thai people a lot. I did find the people in the north of Thailand a bit friendlier than those in the south but I think a lot of that is because of the bad behaviour of some tourists. There are places like that village in the north end of Bangkok. I stayed in a traditional teak house there for a few nights but the poorer homes where all along the canal.

yeah, Chiang Mai is a very interesting city. all kinds of little surprises around every corner. in Toronto, when I lived for 35 years before moving to Chiang Mai, I used to think it was interesting to visit all many the ethnic communities around the city, now in Chiang Mai there's all kinds of little Thai villages spread throughout the city, each with a little different take on the local culture ... some 'hill tribe', some 'Lanna', some 'Isan', some 'Southern', some 'Burmese', Laos, etc. even in my little area 'San Phak Wan' I keep finding cool little 'cultural oasis' Asia explore the little arse streets and paths.

Reminded me of a barangay in The Philippines near Bacolod City in Occidental Negros. The difference here is there are some houses built off the ground. The Thai way of managing poverty does seem more humane than Kensington Street....

Very much so , nothing like Kensington , people in there very friendly , it's not as much as poverty as it is a way of life , same next to the Klongs in Bangkok , and Thai culture is family stays together . My first travels back in the 90's were to Costa Rica and then late to Brazil. During many of those travels I had been into many of those types hoods (often travelling through to get to a friends home) in Costa Rica. In Brazil (Rio) I stayed to the perimeter. Either of those places was risky, not just because of the possibility of getting knifed, but of getting shook down by the cops (which happened to me once, but that story is for another time). One of the key differences between those places and CM is I don't have the concerns regarding the bad elements surpassing the good. I can't ever remember having the feeling of being unsafe anywhere in Thailand, unless it was because of a drunk or roided out falang.
@UTCM
