I am always impressed by how thoughtful you are to give the local people, especially the drivers, some business and water too! Your parents raised you well.
Eur 5.50 for a 30 mins tuk tuk drive is overpriced? These people also deserve to live and not only survive. Sometimes I find westerners comments regarding how much a Thai/Asian should "get" very strange.
Welcome to Chiang Rai, my mother's hometown. It's been like 4 years since I was there, the atmosphere is the same as before. Feeling nostalgic when you pass through the monuments, temples and the market
Thanks for this video n thanks for showing your day exploration in Chiang Rai, Thailand. D coconut blue icecream with sesame seeds topping looked good.
Been to Chiangrai too. but that was ages ago. By the way I forgot to mention that I am married to my husband of UK descend. I am just keen to show western foreigners of what we can offer in Borneo. I love this channel because it’s different. It is not just about food all the time. One of a kind.
Hi Ken, just a heads up! "Sao Baht" in Northern Thai dialect means "20 Baht". Also, please be careful when parking next to the footpath painted with Red/White stripes, because in Thailand the Red/White stripes area on the streets means "no parking" (in Bangkok the police are very serious about this and the fine is quite heavy too, about 500 - 1000 baht fine!!! 😓).
Ahhh the “ Smell of Thailand “ is so familiar engraved in my heart mind and soul.. how I miss her but being a Great example of One with the heart of an Explorer.. you are a wonderful ambassador, Ken.. love the Positive Vibes an your Generous nature.. keep them coming Ken and be safe & well🙏 By the way.. what a deal for a 30 minute Tuktuk guided ride for 200 baht 👍
Happy you were able to visit my part of the country! We moved here a year ago [from BAngkok] and just completed construction of a new home in the country. We have lovely mountain views and lots of greenery around us.
Love Chiang Rai, looking forward to getting back out there. The wife is from Chiang Khong and we always spend a bit of time in Chiang Rai. The Chiang Rai River Beach is a pretty nice place to chill out and relax 🙃
The best meal I had in Thailand was at a restaurant right by that gold clock tower. I stayed about 2 blocks from that clock, and walked to the Chiang Rai Night Bazaar every night. Chiang Rai was like a mini version of Chiang Mai, but with more stunning temples.
Tha lady with the drinks asked you 'Bpai nai?', which means 'Where are you going?' Bpai (mid tone) means 'to go' and nai (rising tone) means 'which'/'where'. 😊
Well done, supporting the locals with some extra money, the tuktuk driver with 200 bath 💪 The bleu temple tooked amazing Ken, thanks for taking us on your trip 🙏 Sauw bath, is dialect used in the north and Isaan region and means 20 bath 😊 Sauw Ha means 25 😉 You are learning more thai every day Ken 💪
Thank you Ken. I realy enjoyed watching this as I can not be there dueto my old age.😉 I like the blue temple and never heard about it. I would say you are the best explorer. Thank you for sharing this.❤️🙏
Ken , that was another astounding vlog .I was smiling till the end of your vlog watching those captivating drone shot . Stay safe and keep on enjoying your journey ahead .
It’s more blessed to give than to receive🙏🏻True, during this pandemic…life’s not the same as before, you’re so blessed that you can still travel around, cool👍🏻The white & blue temples are super beautiful 👏🏻😊stay healthy & safe💪🏻
Wow, that Blue Temple is absolutely stunning...everything there is so bluish...even your coconut ice cream is blue 😀😀😊...the blue colour extract is from those butterfly pea flowers. So sad to see the temple is so quiet now. Even that super duper lovely White Temple is closed. Both the temples were packed like sardines during my visit there before the pandemic. Anyway, thank you very much for the tour and the amazing drone shots of the White Temple. Stay safe and happy exploring Chiangrai 💪💪
Welcome to ChiangRai. At 6:40 mark: the speaker on the pickup truck is advertising for a shop. The truck goes around the city. You can call this “mobile advertisements”.
Hi Ken 👋🏻 what a relaxing and smooth ride , I love riding on a tuk-tuk really fast and airy 🤣 you're so kind , you don't mind paying extra to the driver 🙏🏻 👍 the blue temple is really beautiful interior and outdoor , amazing white temple view from the bird's eye view 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 really nice vlog and informative 👍
An interesting tuk tuk ride around. It's always very generous, kind and thoughtful of you to give that tuk tuk driver a little extra during this hard time. May god bless you always 🙏🙏🙏 At the stall where you bought that bottle drinks, that aunty asked you "pai nai"...where are you going?? 😀😀
there is a large whole sales fruits market in chiangrai you should visit, huge amount varities of fruits you will find from there if you likes fruit. If you visit Maesai the hill tribe village you must go up the moutain to Pha mee and Pha hee. The moutain view is fantasic
You must try to visit Chiang Saen district and Chiang Khong district in Chiang Rai province . Chiang Saen district has a thousand-year-old ancient city with many ancient ruins and up in the mountains overlooking the Mekong River and the Laos side.
The blue temple is beautiful. I love the way you aren't haggling with the locals, they really do need all the help they can get at the moment. Let's hope things get back to normal and we can try to haggle a bargin again. :-)
Chaing rai is in our opinion not commercialised like chaing mai.have been around the white temple twice but the blue temple which was not built when we was there.got a months trip planned in the new year hopefully?will visit then.
Dear Ken, please don't pay inflated prices. Although very little to you, this first leads to increases in tourist prices and then, as a knock on, local prices. It has led to so many places becoming tourist traps where locals can no longer afford to live.
Hiya, sorry late watching. Life has just been busy. Always enjoy your videos. You have a golden heart. Great video. Thank you for sharing. Take care. Safe travels.
Love thai temples. Nothing like them in North America . Haven't been to the northern province yet. My wife is from phetubun area. Stay safe my friend 🙏 Rob and Benci, Toronto. 🇨🇦
The clock tower is amazing, do not forget to go and watch at 19_00pm , the clock changes many colours with classical music being played, well worth a watch.
I remember the nice people of Chiang Rai and the clock tower at the center of town. It changes colours at like 8pm. Also, go to the Maesai village, that js right on the border.
Did you visit the Saturday and Sunday night walking street night market? Or the nightly free performances at the 2 stages and the large food Court that opens at night near the city centre bus station? That's where most people hang out at night in Ching Rai. There is another older clock tower and the golden one have nice musical light show every night at 7 and 8 pm. The Black Mansion is more unique.
I was in Chiang Rai in December 2019, stayed in a friend's relative place in a village some 15km from Chiang Rai City. A beautiful place for leisure life but also have great nightlife to kill your evening. I was planning to come back in December 2020 but covid spoiled everything. May be will come back in Dec 2022. Why December? The temperature is cool and great for any outdoor activities.
It's not a temple but you should checkout the Baan Dam (Black House) is the unique creation of national artist, Thawan Duchanee the place is also known as a black temple very interesting place to visit while in Chiang Rai.
Sauw baht is the old way of saying 20 in Thai. Mostly older people will use sauw baht to mention 20. It is used throughout Thailand. Get up very early, like 3 or 4 am in the morning and visit Phu Shi Fa. You will thank me later for the hint.
Sure, 200 Baht ($6 USD) for a 30 minute ride around town seems like a high rate for the local transportation rate. However, you're paying the local to help feed his family AND he's providing an extra service to accommodate your needs of touring around town and stopping at several sightseeing places along the way. I'd say that's a small fare to pay for the service and convenience. Ken also understands this and helps the local small businesses this way. 👍
It is always interesting to explore Thai cities on tut tut, you could get a better feel of the vibes of the place. The blue temple is stunning and looks majestic. The blue flower that the woman used as blue colouring for the coconut ice-cream, we have the flower in Malaysia too, which we call "bunga telang" in Malay. In Malaysia, the flower is also used as blue colouring for some local cakes or "kuih".
Amazing vlog as usual Ken!! Thanks again for supporting the local tuktuk! Also you're right food close to colleges and schools is definitely much cheaper but still very tasty!
The smoothie lady was saying "keow lak sau baht" which means "each glass twenty baht". If I'm not mistaken, in Chiang Rai they say "sau baht" means "yi sip baht".
The white temple is amazing to bad it was closed. Any of your subscribers who visit it later should also go into the washrooms. It is also very amazing and most people miss it.
Yup, It's nice to hop on a tuk-tuk and feel the vibes around you... LOL ...As as always, I love the temples in Thailand, Awesome & majestic!!, drink more and stay hydrated... Stay safe, be vigilant... Looking forward in what this region has to offer...
There's another huge temple on the hill w one of the biggest goddess of mercy. Its fifteen minutes from city centre. U gotta find ur way there. Very impressive views!
Another great video Ken! We visited Chiang Rai in 2017 when the Blue Temple was in the earlier stage of development, so it was nice to see how it's evolved! One thing I wanted to point out: when you pronounce the word STATUE, the A is pronounced like the A in HAT, not like the A in STATE. Ok, English lesson done. :-)
