Since the Japanese colonial period, there have been hawkers hanging large wooden boxes full of bento to sell to passengers at railway stations all over Taiwan.
Later, the Welfare Committee of the Yushan Forest Management Office of the Forestry Bureau prepared bento boxes for its employees; however, considering that the bento boxes would easily deteriorate under long-term transportation, they sent a contract to a local store in Fenqihu to make them. In addition, since Fenchihu is also an important central station of the Alishan Railway, local hawkers take advantage of the gap between trains waiting to meet and sell bento to passengers.
