Setting intonation on a neck caul can give you inconsistent results. I have learned this the hard way 😔 and I have spent a lot of time chasing myself. The slight weight of the instrument in the caul can deflect the neck enough to effect the result. Instead I now set the body on a firm surface and let the neck float. Ideally it should be done with the guitar in the playing position but I’ve found that difficult to do and the difference is almost non-existent anyway. I also use a Korg TM-60 tuner that has super fine display increments. Since doing these two things my results are much faster and rock solid for accuracy.
Nice looking guitar. I've been looking for a couple months now for one and I just don't feel comfortable pull on the trigger yet. It's hard to find quality store to buy them from. I don´t support the Chibson market, but hey.. some of the Chibson´s looks quite cool and seem quite good, i´ve had several of them in my workshop during the past 8-10 years, mostly because of serious problems like leveling the frets, swapping electronics, tuners, nut, and sometimes even bridge and tailpiece. Most important thing is not to listen to much to people talking crap about guitars, as long as you like the guitar it´s all good, that´s all that matters in my opinion.. :D
Yes, I think you are spot on. Morally is one side to it but the fact is that the Chinese is producing instruments with quality that far surpasses the cost of buying them. If you like a guitar then that’s all there is to it. Thanks for your thought and for dropping by!
@@TheworldofMattias i actually have a Chibson to that i got for free from someone, it´s made more than 10 years ago so it must be one of the very first in the Chibson era to come to europe, maybe 2007-2009 i think. it´s a great guitar but i never play it because i have several real Gibson´s that i like more.. :D
For me, if you put a Chibson and a Gibson beside each other and I can chose wich guitar I want (free of charge) I will always pick the Gibson. They are no doubt great guitars and congrats to you on having several of them! I have two real Gibson´s and I love them both. I will keep shopping for the real deal but I´m kind of in a Chibson zone right now, haha!
That's a nice looking LP, better than the last one you bought, That bridge pickup sounded awful to be honest. A dead give away on a Chibson is the horrible tuners that stick out too far. I replaced mine with Wilkinson but they still stick out. The only ones that don't are the genuine Grovers and ofcourse the genuine Gibsons but they are expensive. Looking forward to the continuation of this one.

Accually the guitar came with a bone nut. I have got a brass one and it´s adjustable but maybe I´ll save it for another guitar. The seller is still there but "my" guitar is no longer available. Very cool! I suppose this one is from the same seller as the Ace Frehley one? In that case, my custom order from the same seller would be very similar in specs. The only difference in my order is that I have just a one piece neck and two piece body. A one piece body does not do much for me personally. Cheers man! 👍
No, this is another seller (but I suspect that it is the same manufacturer, judging by the pots ant stickers). I agree that a one piece body och multi body guitar has little effect on the tone, but as a diy it is good. I was interested to see if the quality could varie, and so far I have not decided if it can. I will do a in depth video on this guitar and then we will know if it is worth the extra money or not.
I think @kmbs4913 ment the retaining spring that goes over the adjusting screws? I meant the coilsprings on each screw. Maybe it got lost in translation :)
They look nice, but with all the hardware, and electronics upgrades they need, they seem like a project guitar out of the box. Upgrade parts can get expensive.
Agreed, they need work when they come. I mean, you can play them but if you waqnt a really good guitar you need to put in some work (and money). But you are still talking sub 400 dollars.
@@TheworldofMattias Decent pickups cost over $100 each. Grover tuners $50. You'd have $50 in controls. That is assuming labor is free. Let's not forget it probably needs the frets leveled, and crowned, and the nut cut. I'm not being a hater. I'm being realistic. Why replace cheap parts with cheap parts? At the end of the day, It's still a Chibson.
You can do the math and come up with a lot of different numbers. Let´s say you buy good pick ups used, 150, decent pots, 40, grovers, 50, guitar, 300. Thats 540 for a guitar with hight end electronics and hardware. I don´t mind to put in the work, but that´s me. You´re right, there´s no value in a Chibson but the replacment parts still have worth.
Excellent looking guitar for the money, we no longer have to wait till we save up enough for a real les paul,these chibson LP are as close as you can get to the real deal, easily as good as any epiphone I would bet, for about 1/2 the price.
I have no access to a Epiphone but some say that Chibson has moulded their guitars from them. But you have given me an idea, I will draw out the contours of my Gibson guitar and compare it to the Chibson. It will be a fun comparison! Keep tuning in and you wont miss it!
There will always be fakes when its so easy to make a good quality fake using CNC machines, for not a lot of money. Gibson's are over priced so this is the result.
I haven´t experienced any major flaws on Gibson´s myself but I have heard that they have had some quality issues. Finding faults on a guitar worth 250 bucks may seem ridiculous but the fact is that the price/quality-ration of these guitars is astonishing. The chinese is getting scary good. Looking for flaws in a knock-off to reveal the actual quality seems reasonable to me. I've been watching quite a few of these Chibson unboxings (the recent ones, from guys like Steve Sterlacci, for example), and it's not the flaws that surprise people, it's the quality.
